Abstract

A 14-year-old black male Poodle was brought to the Animal Teaching Hospital, Udayana University by its owner with clinical signs of frequent licking of its left front paw. Upon examination, red bumps were observed on the left front leg, accompanied by small, round black spots scattered on the dorsal side of the body. Additionally, black nodules were present on the lower eyelids and hind limbs. Surgical intervention was undertaken to excise the tumor mass, with the animal under anesthesia induced by ketamine at 5 mg/kg BW intravenously. The reddish nodule was excised by performing an elliptical incision at the base of tumor. Postoperatively, the animal received an antibacterial injection comprising ceftriaxone and tazobactam at 25 mg/kg BW intramuscularly and antiseptic wound dressing for supportive care. Microscopic examination revealed neoplastic cells arranged into lobules of varying sizes and shapes within the tumor mass. These lobules consisted of differentiated sebocytes and basaloid cells. At the periphery of the neoplastic lobules, the basaloid cells displayed several layers and exhibited invasion with moderate anisocytosis. The mitotic index was no more than ten cells in one field of view. Based on these histopathological features, the tumor was confirmed to be a sebaceous adenoma. After a 10-month follow-up period, there were no signs of tumor recurrence observed.

Abstract

Guntur Macan Village is a hilly area located in the Gunung Sari sub-district, West Lombok Regency. The sandy hill soil, characterized by a significant slope, lacks cohesion, making the area prone to landslides, especially during heavy rainfall, flooding, or tectonic earthquakes. Landslides are further exacerbated by soil cracks filled with water, either from rain or other sources, which reduce the safety factor compared to soil without cracks. The closer the cracks are to the sliding surface, the more the safety factor decreases. In Guntur Macan Village and the surrounding areas of Gunung Sari sub-district, bamboo is widely planted. Bamboo, being cost-effective and environmentally friendly, can be utilized as a retaining structure to mitigate landslides. This Community Empowerment Program (PKM) commenced with a location survey conducted two weeks before implementation, followed by a two-day execution phase. On the first day, educational sessions were provided, covering topics such as bamboo cutting, preservation, and the construction of bamboo retaining walls. On the second day, bamboo retaining walls were built on residential land in Guntur Macan Village. Through this PKM activity, the residents of Guntur Macan are now capable of constructing bamboo retaining walls to prevent landslides.

Abstract

Lamtoro leaves (Leucaena leucochepala) are widely used as forage for cattle because they contain high protein, flavonoids, tannins and other useful nutrients. Apart from containing useful nutrients, it turns out that lamtoro leaves contain a toxic ingredient, namely mimosine, which can cause alopecia and reproductive disorders. This study aims to determine the histopathological changes in the lungs of white rats (Rattus norvegicus) after administration of mimosine from lamtoro leaf simplicia. The study used 20 rats divided into 4 treatment groups, namely P0 (negative control), P1 (positive control) which were given standard mimosine produced by Sigma 5 mg/head/day, P2 (treatment given mimosine from lamtoro leaf simplicia dose of 50 mg/day). head/day, and P3 (treatment given mimosine from lamtoro leaf simplicia dose of 150 mg/head/day. The treatment was given orally for 14 days. On the 15th day all experimental animals were sacrificed to have their lung tissue taken. Then preparations were made histopathology using the hematoxylin eosin (HE) staining method. Examination of histopathological changes including congestion, bleeding and inflammation was carried out using scoring to categorize mild, moderate and severe lesions. The results of the examination in the form of scoring data were analyzed using the Kruskall Wallis and Mann Whitney tests. The results showed that there were significant differences (P<0.05) in lesion congestion, bleeding and inflammation compared to controls. There was a significant difference (P<0.05) between treatments P2 (150mg/head/day) and P3 (50mg/head/day) based on inflammatory lesions, but not significant (P>0.05) on coagulation and bleeding lesions. The conclusion is that administration of mimosine from lamtoro leaf simplicia can cause histopathological lesions of congestion, bleeding and inflammation in the lungs of white rats. The difference in dose of mimosine from lamtoro leaf simplicia between 50mg/head/day and 150mg/head/day only differs in inflammatory lesions, but not in congestion and bleeding lesions. The suggestion is that this research can become a basic reference and that there be futher research regarding dose compared to control.

Abstract

Marigold flower (Tagetes erecta L.) is a type of ornamental plant from the Asteraceae family that has significant potential for cultivation due to its numerous uses. Besides being an ornamental flower, a natural dye, and an attractant for pest predators, marigold contains carotenoids, which can act as antioxidants, relieve mild fever and sore throat, serve as a natural moisturizer, and function as a natural mosquito repellent. Given its various beneficial components and properties, marigold has the potential to be used as a raw material for pharmaceutical preparations. This study aims to determine whether marigold flower simplicia meets the requirements as a raw material for pharmaceutical preparations based on non-specific and specific parameters according to established standards. The non-specific parameters include moisture content and ash content tests, while the specific parameters include organoleptic tests, water-soluble extract content, ethanol-soluble extract content, and yield percentage. This research is an observational non-experimental study with a descriptive-qualitative analysis design. Data collection was carried out by conducting non-specific and specific tests to obtain results for each parameter. The obtained results were as follows: moisture content 4.95%, ash content 4.8%, water-soluble extract content 37.34%, ethanol-soluble extract content 28%, and yield 13.48%. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the marigold flower simplicia is suitable and meets the requirements to be used as raw material for medicinal preparations, in accordance with the previously established parameters, namely the Materia Medica Indonesia Volume VI of 1995, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia in 2017, and the Regulation of the Head of the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) Number 32 of 2019 concerning the quality requirements for traditional medicines. Further quality standardization tests should be conducted, such as microbial contamination, total aflatoxin, heavy metal contamination, weight uniformity, and alcohol content determination in marigold flower simplicia to establish additional quality standards across different parameters.

Abstract

The broiler industry in Indonesia has grown rapidly since the 1970s and has become a primary source of animal protein. However, the health of vital organs such as the liver, spleen, and kidneys plays a crucial role in broiler productivity. Natural Guard (NG) is a feed supplement claimed to benefit these organs, but research on its safety remains limited. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of NG supplementation through drinking water on the health of the liver, spleen, and kidneys in broilers. A completely randomized design (CRD) was used, with four treatment groups: control without NG (P0) and NG supplementation at 1 g/L (P1), 2 g/L (P2), and 4 g/L (P3). Histopathological analysis was performed using Hematoxylin-Eosin (HE) staining, and data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test. The results showed no necrotic lesions in any group, while congestion and inflammatory cell infiltration were observed at mild to moderate levels without significant differences (P>0.05). This indicates that NG supplementation up to 4 g/L does not cause harmful pathological changes in the liver, spleen, and kidneys of broilers. In conclusion, NG is safe to use as a feed supplement for broilers. Further research is needed to assess its long-term effects and impact on broiler productivity.
