Abstract

AbstractThe research investigated whether using short-stories as a teaching media was significant to teach students adjective. It was a pre-experimental research with one group pre-test and post-test design. There were 38 students of VIII D learning group who participated in this research. The data were collected by objective tests and analyzed using t-test and effect size formula. The research found that the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected, while the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. The obtained t-value (8.75) was bigger than the critical value of r (1.678) by the degree of freedom 37. The effect size was categorized high since the ES value was 1.41 and bigger than 0.8. To conclude, teaching through short-stories is significant and very effective to teach adjectives to Year – 8 students of “SMPN 21 Pontianak” in Academic Year 2017/2018. Key Words: Short-stories, Adjective, Teaching Media

The materials were taken from students’ and teachers’ book that the researcher had simplified. The presence research was Research and Development (R&D). The procedures were adapted from ADDIE Model proposed by Hannafin and Peck Model (1987), it uses three phases approach: Analysis, Design and Development. The guideline to do the research was the result of analysis phase. From the analysis phase the researcher has figured the challenges faced by the students and the teacher. Based on the questionnaire given to the students, most of them answered that learning Recount text by using multimedia was interesting and helpful. Design phase covered all the aspects which became the focus of the multimedia, the curriculum used by the school, the roles of the teacher and students, the materials selected, and structure of the multimedia. The development phase was conducted to develop and to evaluate the powerpoint-based learning multimedia. The evaluation result shows that the multimedia was classified as very good with score 85.71% by the expert. According to the result of evaluation phase, the multimedia is considered to be feasible to be applied by the teachers to teach Recount text. Keywords: Powerpoint, Multimedia, Recount text.

Abstract

The use of organic materials aimed in reducing the dependence on inputs such as chemical fertilizers can contribute to sustainability and improving the low N fertilizer efficiency of rice plants in paddy soils. Therefore, better understanding of N transformation in flooded soils, particularly the microbial transformation of N-organic amendments to plant-available N, is needed for most efficient use of soil and organic materials N for aiding in the selection of N management practices for sustainable agriculture. The experiments were conducted at the laboratory and in the greenhouse of Soil Department, Faculty of Agriculture, Bogor Agricultural University. Incubation experiment was conducted at room temperature for 120 days to observe the availability of N-NH4+ in soil amended rice straw or rice straw composts and its combination with urea. After 21 days of incubation period, the rice straw amended soils showed that NNH4+ release was higher than the other treatments. The 4-monthand 8-month-compost of rice straw showed that N mineralization rate was lower and the N availability was lower than rice straw. The results of pot experiment in greenhouse revealed that the added rice straw was comparable with urea in its effect on the increase of dry matter weight of rice plants, number of tillers, Nuptake of rice, and recovery N efficiency. The application of rice straw, however, promoted the activity of nitrogenase enzyme higher than rice straw composts. The effect of rice straw on observed parameters were much better than its composts.
