Abstract

The consequences that can occur when toddlers experience stunting include short-term and long-term impacts. Short-term impacts on children experiencing stunting include disrupted brain development that can affect intelligence, growth disorders, and metabolic disturbances. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between a history of chronic energy deficiency during pregnancy and the occurrence of stunting in toddlers in the Kalimukti Community Health Center area, Pabedilan District, Cirebon Regency. This is quantitative research using a pre-experimental research method with a One Group Pretest Posttest approach. The research population includes all mothers with toddlers aged 0-24 months in the Kalimukti Community Health Center area, Pabedilan District, Cirebon Regency in 2023, totaling 256. The sample selection technique uses purposive sampling. Data analysis involves univariate and bivariate analysis. The chi-square test results show a significant relationship between chronic energy deficiency in pregnant women and the occurrence of stunting in toddlers aged 0-24 months (ρ=0.004). Based on the Odds Ratio (OR) calculation, pregnant women with Chronic Energy Deficiency during pregnancy are 15.4 times more likely to experience stunting in their children in the future.

Abstract

Pineapple (Ananas comosus L. Merr) contains various bioactive compounds, including the enzyme bromelain. Pineapple pith was chosen as a sample because it is still underutilized. This study aims to isolate secondary metabolite compounds from n-hexane extract of pineapple bark and test its antimicrobial activity. Maceration was carried out using n-hexane solvent, then the extract was separated by gravity column chromatography, resulting in four fractions. Separation of pure compounds using thin layer chromatography (KLT) with n-hexane:ethyl acetate (4:1) eluent. The second fraction produced a white crystalline compound (Ac-EH) with a melting point of 128-130°C. Characterization with UV-Vis showed absorption at λmax 268 nm and 206 nm, while FTIR identified the functional groups C-O (1047 cm-¹), CH₃ (1379 cm-¹), CH₂ (1465 cm-¹), C-H aliphatic (2939 cm-¹), and OH (3309 cm-¹). Phytochemical tests showed that Ac-EH belongs to the terpenoid group. Antimicrobial activity tests against Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Candida albicans were carried out by diffusion method at concentrations of 20%, 30%, and 40%. The results showed that the n-hexane and Ac-EH extracts were active in inhibiting bacterial growth but not against fungi. The n-hexane extract inhibited S. aureus by 9.1 mm, 9.5 mm, and 9.8 mm and S. epidermidis by 8.1 mm, 8.4 mm, and 8.7 mm. The Ac-EH compound inhibited S. aureus by 8.5 mm, 8.9 mm, and 9.4 mm and S. epidermidis by 8.3 mm, 8.7 mm, and 9.1 mm.

Abstract

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines healthy aging as the process of developing and maintaining functional abilities that enable well-being in old age. Aging describes the influence on cells at the biological level caused by the impact of the accumulation of various molecular and cellular damage over time. This leads to a gradual decline in physical and mental capacity, an increased risk of disease, and eventually death. One of the efforts of the physiotherapy program in conducting this activity aims to provide education and an elderly gymnastics program to raise awareness about the importance of physiotherapy and how to perform simple exercises at home, the presence of physiotherapists who can provide periodic services at the Posyandu, including evaluating physical conditions and providing interventions that are appropriate to the condition of the disease. The method used in this activity is to conduct counseling, education, and intervention, then the data is processed quantitatively. The results measured the quality of life using WHOQOL. The WHOQOL score before was 68.33+5.423 and afterward, it was 86.06+4.439, indicating an improvement in the quality of life after the elderly gymnastics program. Additionally, this activity resulted in several aspects, namely: 1) the elderly and their families became more aware of the importance of physiotherapy in maintaining physical health, 2) education on the benefits of physiotherapy and physical exercise, 3) a physical exercise program (in the form of elderly gymnastics), 4) the elderly participating in the program experienced an improved quality of life, 5) the elderly reported feeling more active, enthusiastic, and able to perform daily activities better, 6) the level of participation of the elderly in the program was high, indicating interest and need for the program, and 7) positive feedback from the elderly and their families regarding the benefits of the program for their health and well-being.

Abstract

Diabetes Melitus (DM) termasuk salah satu penyakit tidak menular yang telah menjadi masalah serius bagi kesehatan masyarakat di Indonesia maupun di dunia. Indonesia menduduki peringkat ke 7 di dunia dengan penderita diabetes sebanyak 10,7 juta pada tahun 2019 dan jumlah tersebut diperkirakan akan meningkat menjadi 13,7 juta pada tahun 2030 dan 16,6 juta pada tahun 2045 (1,2). Komplikasi yang terjadi pada penderita DM adalah karena kerusakan dan kematian sel yang disebabkan peningkatan stress oksidatif dan aktivitas mediator inflamasi temasuk interleukin-6 (Il-6). Pemberian obat hipoglikemi oral pada pasien DM tidak menunjukkan perbaikan pada stress oksidatif. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan terapi tambahan untuk pasien DM yang dapat menurunkan stress oksidatif dan mediator inflamasi serta mendukung kerja antioksidan endogen. Daun bandotan merupakan tanaman yang mengandung antioksidan dan digunakan sebagai obat tradisional untuk pasien DM. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kadar guloksa darah sebetlum terapi ekstrak daun bandotan. Penelitian ini menggunakan tikus wistar jantan yang diinduksi dengan streptozotocin (stz) untuk menjadi DM tipe 2. Kemudian diperiksa kadar glukosa darah pada hari ke lima setelah induksi stz. Hasil menunjukkan secara keseluruhan kadar glukosa darah telah mencapai lebih dari 200 mg/dl. Hal tersebut menunjukkan bahwa tikus telah mengalami hiperglikemi dan bisa dilanjutkan untuk perlakuan terapi.

Abstract

Aedes aegypti merupakan jenis nyamuk yang berperan sebagai vektor utama penyakit demam berdarah dengue (DBD), Dengue Hemorhagic Fever (DHF), filariasis, demam kuning (yellow fever), chikungunya dan demam Zika yang disebabkan oleh virus Zika. Banyak upaya yang telah dilakukan untuk menanggulangi penyakit DBD, diantaranya pemberantasan sarang nyamuk (PSN) lewat 3M (Menguras,Menutup, dan Mengubur), melakukan fogging dan pemberian abate, serta memelihara ikan pemakan jentik, pemberantasan jentik/larva nyamuk A. Aegypti dengan  pemberian larvasida sintetik dan penggunaan insektisida kimiawi. Penggunaan insektisida kimiawi dan larvasida sintetik secara terus menerus dapat menyebabkan nyamuk jadi resisten, umumnya meninggalkan residu yang dapat membahayakan kesehatan manusia dan mengganggu keseimbangan lingkungan serta dapat membunuh hewan peliharaan dan juga manusia. Sehubungan dengan hal tersebut, maka perlu adanya penelitian mengenai biolarvasida sebagai pengganti larvasida sintetik dari tanaman yang memiliki senyawa yang dapat membunuh jentik/larva yang tidak memiliki efek samping terhadap kesehatan dan juga lingkungan yang dapat membahayakan penggunanya. Salah satu tanaman yang berpotensi sebagai biolarvasida adalah rimpang lengkuas merah (Alpinia Purpurata K. Schum). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jumlah kematian larva setelah diberikan infusa rimpang lengkuas merah (Alpinia Purpurata K. Schum). Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah Eksperimen Laboratorium dengan desain penelitian fokus untuk menguji efektifitas infusa rimpang lengkuas (Alpinia Purpurata K. Schum) terhadap kematian larva Aedes aegypti. Konsentrasi 25% merupakan konsentrasi yang paling efektif dalam membunuh larva nyamuk Aedes aegypti. Dengan begitu maka semakin tinggi konsentrasi maka semakin tinggi pula tingkat kematian larva nyamuk.
