Abstract

In facing business competition in the digital economy era, the digitalization of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) has become a primary necessity. By participating in technology-based entrepreneurial activities, students have significant opportunities to act as agents of change. This study aims to explore how student entrepreneurship contributes to the development of digital-based MSMEs. The research was conducted using a qualitative approach, including observation, interviews, and literature review. The findings indicate that student entrepreneurship supports product innovation, digital marketing, the use of social media and marketplaces, and the improvement of MSME actors’ digital literacy. Consequently, these contributions enhance competitiveness and expand market reach for MSMEs. However, challenges remain, such as limited resources and the readiness of MSME actors to adopt digital

Abstract

The limited availability of formal employment has become a serious challenge for university students in determining their future career paths. This condition encourages students to consider entrepreneurship as an alternative and promising career option. This study aims to explore students’ perspectives on entrepreneurship as a career choice amid the scarcity of open job opportunities, as well as to identify the factors influencing entrepreneurial interest. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through semi-structured interviews involving students who have taken entrepreneurship courses or shown an interest in entrepreneurial activities. The findings indicate that students perceive entrepreneurship as an opportunity to achieve economic independence, develop creativity, and create new job opportunities. However, entrepreneurship is also viewed as a career path with high risks, requiring sufficient capital and experience. Internal, external, and educational factors play significant roles in shaping students’ entrepreneurial interests. With supportive entrepreneurial education and a conducive environment, entrepreneurship has the potential to become a long-term solution for reducing educated unemployment and enhancing youth participation in economic development.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of product quality and price on business success at the Rajawali Brand Peanut Bread MSME in Tebing Tinggi. The population in this study was consumers and business owners, with an unknown number of participants. The sample was determined using the Lemeshow formula, resulting in 96 respondents using a purposive sampling technique. The research variables consisted of product quality (X1) and price (X2) as independent variables, and business success (Y) as the dependent variable. The data analysis method used was multiple linear regression analysis with the help of SPSS. The results showed that product quality and price had a positive effect on business success, with the regression equation Y = 6.304 + 0.318X1 + 0.481X2. The partial test results indicated that product quality had a positive and significant effect on business success (t-test 3.264; sig. 0.002 <0.05), and price also had a positive and significant effect (t-test 4.331; sig. 0.000 <0.05). The results of the simultaneous test indicate that both variables together significantly influence business success (F-test 33.091; sig. 0.000 < 0.05). The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.416 indicates that product quality and price explain 41.6% of the variation in business success, while the remaining 58.4% is influenced by other variables outside this study. Thus, product quality and price are proven to have a positive and significant influence on business success.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of destination image (X1) and memorable experiences (X2) on the community's economy (Y) in the Sipinsur Geosite tourist area, Pearung Village, Humbang Hasundutan Regency. The population included MSMEs and tourists, with a sample of 96 respondents drawn using the Lemeshow formula and accidental sampling technique. Primary data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using multiple linear regression using SPSS. The analysis results show a regression equation of Y = -3.528 + 0.620X1 + 0.417X2. A partial t-test proved that destination image had a significant positive effect (t=13.198; Sig=0.000 <0.05) and that effective experiences also had a significant effect (t=8.705; Sig=0.000 <0.05). A simultaneous F-test emphasized the joint influence of both variables (F=104.077; Sig=0.000 <0.05), with an R-square of 0.691 (69.1% of the variation in Y is explained by X1 and X2). It can be concluded that destination image and experiences have a positive and significant impact on the local economy of the Sipinsur Geosite. Management is advised to maintain the destination image and enhance the tourist experience to optimize the local economic impact.

Abstract

This study focuses on the influence of regional planning and product innovation on regional development, with community empowerment as a mediating variable in Samosir Regency. This explanatory study aims to test and explain the relationship between the main variables. Data collection was conducted through a structured questionnaire administered to 250 respondents consisting of community members and MSME actors using purposive sampling. The data analysis technique used Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) through SmartPLS 4. The results revealed that product innovation is a more dominant driving factor in directly influencing regional development than regional planning, with a path coefficient value of 0.502 and T-statistics of 9.979 (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, regional planning has a smaller but still significant direct effect of 0.139 with T-statistics of 2.255. Another finding indicates that product innovation can influence regional development independently without requiring community empowerment mediation (p > 0.05). Conversely, regional planning requires community empowerment as a significant mediating bridge (p = 0.043) to achieve optimal impact on regional development. Thus, accelerating progress in Samosir is highly dependent on the integration of participatory infrastructure and the strengthening of local product creativity as strategic assets.

Abstract

The rapid acceleration of digital transformation has changed the business landscape worldwide, but micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in developing regions continue to face structural gaps in digital readiness and inclusion. In Medan, Indonesia, where MSMEs are the backbone of the economy, limited digital adoption and uneven readiness hinder their ability to maintain competitiveness and contribute to inclusive economic growth. This phenomenon highlights the importance of analysing how digital transformation variables interact with innovation processes and collaborative ecosystems to generate sustainable economic outcomes. The objective of this study is to investigate the indirect effects of digital readiness, digital inclusion, and digital transformation on sustainable local economic development through the dual mediation of innovation business models and ecosystem business models. Using an explanatory quantitative design, data were collected from 200 SMEs in Medan that had been involved in digitalisation for at least two years. Structural Equation Modelling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) was applied to test the proposed Digital Ecosystem Innovation Model (DEIM). The results show that digital readiness, inclusion, and transformation do not have a direct effect on sustainable economic growth. Instead, their impact becomes significant when mediated by innovation and ecosystem business models. Digital readiness strongly drives innovation, while digital inclusion enhances both innovation and ecosystem collaboration. Furthermore, the ecosystem business model emerges as the strongest predictor of sustainable local economies, highlighting the importance of coordinated value creation among stakeholders. This study concludes that digital transformation should not be viewed as an end goal, but rather as a systemic process requiring business model adaptation and the development of collaborative ecosystems. This research contributes theoretically by expanding the Technology–Organisational Environment (TOE) framework through the DEIM model, integrating readiness, inclusion, and innovation into a holistic approach. Practically, this research provides policy insights to improve the resilience of MSMEs through digital literacy, innovation capacity, and cross-sector collaboration.
