Abstract

In civil engineering, soil plays a crucial role as it supports the strength of the construction above it.. Thus, research was conducted on native soil in the Tais-Maras region of South Bengkulu Regency. Testing was carried out to determine the properties of the native soil intended for construction activities, including water content according to SNI 03-1965:2008, specific gravity according to SNI 03-1964:2008, plastic limit according to SNI 03-1966:2008, liquid limit according to SNI 03-1967:2008, hydrometer analysis according                                     to SNI 03-3423:2008, activity value, CBR according to SNI 03-1744-1989, and shrinkage limit research according to SNI 03-1996-1990. Based on research and data calculation from disturbed soil samples in the Tais-Maras region of South Bengkulu Regency, the soil properties were determined as follows: water content (W) 98.52%, specific gravity (Gs) 2.415, liquid limit (LL) 45%, plastic limit (PL) 33.85%, Plasticity Index (PI) 11.2%, Optimum Moisture Content (OMC) 34.9%, dry density 1.120 Kg/Cm3, and a CBR design value of 3.9%. The calculated shrinkage limit value was 38%, and the soil activity value was 2.6. It can be concluded that this soil belongs to the OL category, with 'O' representing organic silt due to the hydrometer analysis showing particle sizes ranging from 0.002 mm to 0.0074 mm with high plasticity and moisture content, thus indicating that it is unsuitable for bearing construction loads.

Abstract

Road surface smoothness measurements are not widely conducted in Indonesia due to limited equipment, resulting in inadequate monitoring and evaluation of existing road constructions according to national road sector standards. Road surface smoothness levels can be determined by measurements using various methods recommended by Bina Marga and AASHTO. One method recommended by Bina Marga for measuring road smoothness levels is through road damage survey forms according to the 2015 road condition reporting guidelines. The average road damage level for the Sp.Kerkap–Batas Sumber Road Section is 5.130%. The location Km.Bdg. 63+000-64+000 has the highest IRI value of 12, dominated by damage such as shallow potholes covering an area of 8,916.56m², which is planned to be repaired using hotmix patching. Therefore, road observers must be vigilant and regularly report road damages every month to ensure the stability and condition of the road are well maintained, in order to facilitate and support economic flow/velocity. Proper and appropriate handling will keep the road in good condition based on the planned road stability.

Abstract

The bridge is one of the most important means of transportation for humans. The bridge also serves as a link between one area and another. Seeing the importance of the function of a bridge, the construction of a bridge must meet various existing standards. One of the requirements that must be met in making a bridge is the resilience of the bridge in accept the load of both humans and vehicles that cross the bridge and the static equilibrium conditions on the bridge. The construction of a Truss bridge is usually carried out at the place where the bridge will stand. But now the construction of the bridge can be done outside that location, to then be shifted to the actual location. And, that's not only for short bridges, but also for long bridges. But sometimes a condition does not allow conventional bridge construction, while on the other hand the construction of the bridge is something very important. For that we need an innovation, an alternative method so that the construction of the Truss bridge can be carried out. The 100 meter span Australian Truss bridge was assembled above the maintenance bridge at the Batang Arau flood control structure and then shifted downstream to the new bridge location which is 10 meters away. Before the shifting was carried out, rails were prepared as the shifting path and two bridgeheads as the placement of the Truss bridge on the left and right of the Batang Arau river. Currently the Ujung Tanah II Truss bridge has been functioning for 30 years with good maintenance.

Abstract

Based on data from Central Statistics Agency for 2022, the number of beef cattle in the Meranti Islands is 3,927 tail, 9 buffaloes and 7,985 goats. This very large livestock population is certain to produce large amounts of livestock manure because the cattle population is always directly proportional to the production of livestock manure. This assistance has a purpose aims to produce appropriate technology through the use of solid and liquid waste from livestock manure as a source of biogas. The method devotion is counseling and assistance regarding biogas originating from livestock manure in livestock groups in the Meranti Islands. The institution that will be a partner in biogas development technology activities is the Mantiasa Village independent cattle group, which is a non-productive livestock group. The community service parameters observed is the degree of acidity (pH). The results of the service obtained by the Mantiasa Village livestock group can utilize Biogas from livestock waste which is always available and can be distributed to 3-5 families, so that breeders and the community no longer use conventional gas for cooking. The use of biogas products by breeders and the community can save people's living costs because the price of conventional gas for cooking is high.

Abstract

Gogok Darussalam Village, located in Tebing Tinggi Barat District, Kepulauan Meranti Regency, possesses significant potential in sago crop production. The high volume of production results in an abundance of sago pulp waste, which can be utilized as raw material for the production of wafer-based cattle feed. This community service activity aimed to evaluate the formulation of wafer feed and assess the product's value in improving cattle weight gain. The program employed a Community-Based Research (CBR) approach, which actively involves the local community in every stage of the activity, thereby contributing to positive social change. The results of the activity indicated that this research-based approach successfully generated 80 to 90 percent feedback from the community. Despite the generally low level of education among participants, they demonstrated a good understanding of the material presented by the facilitators. The training began with a presentation on the process of producing wafer feed from sago pulp, followed by a simulation of business cost calculations for traditional cattle farming using a combination of wafer feed and natural grass. The findings also revealed that feed costs using wafer products were more economical, efficient, and generated higher profits compared to natural grass feed. In conclusion, wafer feed is feasible for application in both traditional and conventional cattle farming and holds strong potential for improving the welfare of livestock farmers.

Abstract

The Mantiasa Village independent cattle livestock group is a non-productive livestock group. The Mantiasa Village independent cattle livestock group has 25 Balinese cattle. This livestock group is found in Tinggi Tinggi Barat District, Meranti Islands Regency, Riau Province. This group is a location for breeding and fattening livestock commodities, especially Bali cattle. This very high cattle population is directly proportional to the production of livestock manure in the form of feces and urine. Cattle manure that is not utilized optimally will have implications for unfriendly environmental conditions and the spread of livestock diseases will often occur. Therefore, there is a need for technology to use livestock manure as biogas production by designing a household scale reactor. This service aims to produce appropriate technology through the use of solid and liquid waste from livestock manure as a source of biogas. The parameters observed were the degree of acidity (pH) and the flame test. Biogas observation results show that the initial pH of biogas is 7.2-7.4, while the final pH ranges from 7.9-8.2, which shows that biogas has good quality for bacterial growth. The Mantiasa Village livestock community actively participates in training in making biogas using simple, effective technology so that it can improve the community's economy.
