Abstract

Anisakis is a zoonotic nematode that causes anisakiasis in Europe and Asia. Food safety has recently become a major concern for consumers; therefore, accurate identification of Anisakis larvae is necessary for the correct diagnosis of Anisakis infection in humans and fish and for improving food safety. From 2001 to 2023, Anisakis examinations were carried out in 33 areas of Indonesian territory. Morphometric Anisakis of Indonesia generally have a body length of 0.10-34.50 mm with a diameter of 0.30-0.42 mm. Based on morphological and genetic identification, identified six species anisakis in Indonesia (A. simplex, A. physeteris, A. pegreffii, A. berlandi, A. typica and Anisakis sp. HC-2005), or identified six Anisakis genotypes based on genetic identification, namely A. typica (s.s), A. typica var Indonesiansis, A. physeteris, A. pegreffii, A. berlandi and Anisakis sp. HC-2005.Decapterus sp., Thyrsitoides marleyi, Euthynnus afifinis, Auxis rochei, Gempylus serpens, Katsuwonus pelamis and Trichiurus lepturus have a high prevalence (>90%), indicating that they are often infected with Anisakis. Anisakis spread throughout the waters in Indonesia with various types of fish as hosts and A. typica is the predominant species in Indonesia.

Abstract

Tinfoil barb Barbonymus schwanenfeldii is recognized as one of the potential aquaculture commodities in Indonesia. Nonetheless, lack of data on their environmental tolerance causing this issue to become essential to be investigated. The present study was carried out to assess the pH influence on growth and physiological response of juvenile tinfoil barb. Juvenile tinfoil barbs (TL: 5.5 ± 0.8 cm; BW: 2.4 ± 1.0 g) were treated with four pH level treatments (5, 6, 7, and 8) and three replications with the stocking density of 10 fish each aquarium. Fish were kept for 21 days and fed with commercial fish feed. In this study, pH 8 exposure resulted to lower growth of juvenile tinfoil barb compared to pH treatment 5 to 7 (p<0.05). In terms of survival rate, the results show significantly lower value at pH 8 treatment compared to those of pH 6 and 7 treatment (p<0.05), while it is not significantly different with pH 5 treatment (p>0.05). Additionally, this study found the highest value of glucose, cortisol, and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) on pH 8 treatment (p<0.05). On the other hand, pH 8 exposure led to the lowest creatinine, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and ALP level (p<0.05). In conclusion, the optimal pH for juvenile tinfoil barb rearing ranged around 6-7.

Abstract

The freshwater eel, Anguillids, is a valuable nutrition and commodity fish found in various freshwater environments. However, the world's population of Anguillids are declining because of habitat degradation, pollution, and barriers to migration, all of which are prevalent threats to freshwater ecosystems such as the Poso River in Central Sulawesi. Establishing conservation areas is one of the efforts to protect Anguillids and their habitats, which requires information on the anguillids morphometrics and genetics, where high morphometric and genetic variations are indicators of adaptation or evolution of the species to survive environmental changes. Therefore, the study aims to assess the morphometric and genetic variations  in the Poso River, Central Sulawesi. Samples were collected along the Poso River in the range of May 2021 and August 2023 . Different fishing gears were used depending on the location and Anguillids’ phase of life. A total of 150 eel samples were used for morphometric analysis, out of which 38 were selected randomly for the genetic one. Genetic diversity analysis was performed based on the Cytochrome c Oxidase I (COI).  The study successfully identified three species: A. bicolor, A. celebesensis, and A. marmorata. The key characteristic distinguishing the three species was ADL/TL ratio. Most coefficients of variation of morphometric characters of each species were above 10%, indicating medium to high variation. A total of 11 haplotypes were identified, of which six belong to A. marmorata and five to A. celebesensis. Generally, haplotype diversity was low, ranging from 0.2923 to 0.9333, and nucleotide diversity ranged from 0.0005 to 0.0046. The low genetic diversity observed in this study is likely a result of the migratory nature of Anguillids. Morphometric and genetic variations can support restocking as a conservation strategy to bolster wild populations. However, comprehensive studies must be conducted to understand all aspects impacting Anguillid resources for establishing conservation areas to protecti their populations and habitats.

Abstract

Abstract

Eel (Anguilla bicolor) in the grow-out culture requires good fingerling seeds. Increasing the eel productivity can be done by increasing the stocking density, that should be balanced with good environmental and feed management. This study aimed to analyze the production and business performance of fingerlings in a recirculation system to increase the eel survival and growth rate. The study used a completely randomized design with three different stocking densities, namely 4 g/L (A), 5 g/L (B), and 6 g/L (C). The average weight of each fingerling was 20 ± 4.09 g, that was kept in a 1.5-m3 pond with a recirculation system. Feeding was performed two times a day using commercial feed with probiotic supplementation. The results showed that different stocking densities significantly affected feed conversion ratio, total biomass weight, and coefficient of variance. However, different stocking densities had no significant effect on survival rate, absolute weight growth rate, specific weight growth rate, and condition factor. The C treatment obtained the highest profit with an R/C ratio of 1.20 ± 0.03. The best production and cultivation performance of eel fingerling in a recirculation system with different stocking densities is found in treatment C (6 g/L). Keywords: Anguilla bicolor, business performance, production performance, recirculation system, stocking density ABSTRAK Budidaya ikan sidat (Anguilla bicolor) pada segmen pembesaran memerlukan benih yang baik khususnya untuk benih fingerling. Abstract

Increasing of the fisheries problems, especially the decline of fisheries resources stock, made the sustainable issues become intense discussed in fisheries. The importance of the system indicator for fisheries sustainable development are widely known and have been done in several countries through tremendous effort in their fisheries development. In Indonesia, the assessment of fisheries sustainability has been carried out with various approaches to sustainability assessment, mostly on management status. This study aims to assess the rate of sustainable development and management of the reef fisheries in Indonesia using the integrated index approach of sustainability aspect using the multi-dimensional scaling procedures with a case study of reef fisheries at Ternate Island. The result shows that the sustainable development index of reef fisheries at the coastal area of Ternate Island tends to move toward sustainable development within integrated management from all sustainable dimensions. Dimensionally, economic and social dimensions show a positive trend on sustainable development, while ecological and technological dimensions tend to show the inverse direction. The relationship between economic and social benefits obtained from reef fisheries to improving the community well-being will provide a positive trend for the sustainability of reef fisheries. However, on the other hand, the increase in production can lead to overfishing for the reef fisheries resources. Management policy that integrated every indicator of sustainable fisheries dimension may extend the chance to develop reef fisheries at the coastal area of Ternate Island within the sustainability of the resources and ecosystems management. Keywords: Sustainable development, integrated management, fisheries management, sustainability index, coral reef

Abstract

Jatigede Reservoir receives water masses and materials from the Cimanuk River, such as nutrients, sediments, and waste, including microplastics. This study aims to analyze the presence of microplastics in the digestive tract of caught fish in Jatigede Reservoir. Fish samples were obtained from fishermen, fish collectors, and fish farmers. Microplastic observations were carried out in the stomach and intestines of fish through the stages of observing fish eating habits, extraction, followed by FTIR analysis to determine the presence, abundance, and type of polymer. Carnivorous fish have the highest amount of microplastics. There is a marked difference between the amount of microplastics and the origin of fish intake. The shorter the fish's gut, the greater the amount of microplastics found. Based on their shape, the type of microplastic is dominated by fibers with a blue color. The most common polymer found is nylon. The digestive tract of fish in Jatigede Reservoir already contains microplastics of various types and colors, with varying amounts, according to the nature of eating fish.
