Abstract

Low back pain (LBP) significantly impacts Indonesian workers, including those in Jambi's rubber processing factories. This study, involving 102 respondents, used a cross-sectional design to identify LBP-associated factors. Statistical analysis found significant correlations: age (p-value 0.000, PR 1.83), years of service (p-value 0.000, PR 3.50), workload (p-value 0.000, PR 6.00), work attitude (p-value 0.000, PR 0.06), BMI (p-value 0.005, PR 1.20), and smoking (p-value 0.000, PR 2.42) with LBP complaints. Medical history had no significant association (p-value 0.351, PR 1.13). LBP complaints in rubber factory workers may be triggered by factors such as advancing age, length of service, heavy workloads, suboptimal work attitudes, abnormal BMI, and smoking habits.

Abstract

The salivary α-amylase (sAA) concentration has a potential role as a biological indicator of occupational fatigue. This study aimed to determine the levels of sAA and its influencing factors. This research used a cross-sectional design with a sample of 40 office staff respondents at PT. X (Persero). Mental workload (MWL), sleep quality, and occupational fatigue were measured using the NASA-Total Load Index (TLX), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and Industrial Fatigue Research Committee, respectively. Meanwhile, the basic sAA levels was measured through the sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method using the Bioenzy® Kit Assay. Descriptive analysis showed that the workers were mostly men, 75% of which had a high education level and 72.5% were of marital status. MWL scoring in NASA-TLX revealed an average score of 70.91, which indicates a high MWL. Pearson’s correlation analysis unveiled that occupational fatigue and sleep quality were significantly correlated with sAA concentration. The final model showed that for each one-unit increase in occupational fatigue, the sAA concentration increased by 15.90 U/mL. Furthermore, for every unit increase in sleep quality, the sAA concentration decreased by 13.38 U/mL. sAA concentration can be used as a potential noninvasive biological marker related to sleep quality and occupational fatigue.

Abstract

In a rapidly evolving industry, the focus on the risk of Repetitive Occupational Muscle Disorder (GOTRAK) is increasing. Compliance with Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 9011:2021 on ergonomics in the workplace is essential to identify and control these risks. This study aims to pinpoint ergonomic hazards at PT X associated with GOTRAK, so as to provide important insights to improve worker welfare. The study, conducted using a quantitative approach, involved workers from wet and dry production processes in manufacturing. Primary data collection from 57 rotating shift workers, who each worked for 8 hours each day, showed that 32 respondents (56%) faced high upper body GOTRAK risk with the right shoulder (26.3%), left shoulder (14%), and lower back (12.3%) being the most vulnerable areas. The evaluation showed significant ergonomic risks in wet production work such as pre-breaking, breaking, pressing, and handling rubber blankets, and in dry production work such as transporting blankets, grinding, drying, transferring cakes from trolleys, pressing, and weighing. These conditions are considered hazardous, requiring immediate action to improve working conditions and worker welfare.

Abstract

ABSTRACTIntroduction: The high incidence of dental caries in children is partly due to the lack of parental participation in estabilishing children's tooth-brushing habits. This research aims to see an increase in the variables tested in the EKARINI, an educational model on mothers’ knowledge, attitudes, and children's OHIS. Methods: This study employs an experimental design, collecting pretest and posttest data from mothers and their children following the intervention.  The intervention provided in this study involved the EKARINI educational model, which included a pre-test and post-test in the form of a questionnaire consisting of several questions about maternal knowledge and attitudes toward dental health, and the control group received standard education using media such as leaflets, videos, and phantom models. The sample consisted of two groups: an intervention group with 20 respondents and a control group with 20 respondents. Data analysis was conducted using either the independent t-test or the Mann-Whitney test. Results: The findings revealed a significant difference between the posttest scores of the intervention group and the control group The p-values indicate significant differences for each variable: knowledge (p = 0.006), attitude (p = 0.016), and OHIS (p = 0.010), showing that the EKARINI educational model effectively improved maternal knowledge, attitudes, and children's oral hygiene compared to the control group. Based on the average value, the group that received the educational model had a higher average value than the control group. Conclusion: The EKARINI educational model is in increasing mothers’ knowledge, attitudes, and better OHIS values.
