Abstract

This study evaluates the effect of the integrated STEM method in learning electronics material on the analytical and problem-solving abilities of vocational high school students. The method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) involving class XI students of Industrial Electronics Engineering at SMK Negeri 2 Banjar. This study involved three cycles of action including planning, action, observation, and reflection. The results showed a significant increase in students' analytical and problem-solving abilities, indicated by an increase in the average score from 60.0 in the pre-test to 80.0 in the post-test in the third cycle. Observations also showed an increase in student participation, with 95% of students actively involved in learning in the last cycle. These results indicate the effectiveness of the STEM method in improving students' competence in the field of electronics as well as their readiness to face the challenges of the world of work or further education.

Abstract

Multi-face detection presents a significant challenge in computer vision, especially in environments with limited hardware resources. This study compares the performance of three multi-face detection methods—Haarcascade, Dlib (HOG and CNN), and RetinaFace—using a subset of the WIDER FACE dataset in a CPU-only environment without GPU acceleration. The experiment was conducted in two stages using a total of 300 images from the WIDER FACE dataset, which reflect real-world variations such as pose, scale, illumination, expression, and occlusion. Performance evaluation was carried out using precision, recall, F1-score, accuracy, and processing time as metrics. The results show that RetinaFace consistently outperforms the other methods, achieving superior metrics in Recall (0.92), F1-score (0.93), and Accuracy (0.88) on Subset A, and leading across all metrics on Subset B. While Dlib-CNN demonstrates high detection performance, it suffers from very slow processing time. In contrast, Haarcascade delivers the fastest processing speed but performs poorly in terms of evaluation metrics. The experiments also reveal that RetinaFace is the most consistent and reliable method based on standard deviation values of precision (0.01), recall (0.11), F1-score (0.07), and accuracy (0.11). Overall, this study contributes valuable insights for selecting efficient face detection methods under constrained resource conditions.

Abstract

Flores Island is vulnerable towards natural disasters. Therefore, it requires an effective disaster warning ma-nagement. In this context, schools play an important role in disaster warning system. However, not all schools implement Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) procedures effectively. Therefore, efforts are needed to improve disaster warning system among schools by integrating the three pillar principles, which include safe facilities, effective disaster management, and resilience education. This study aims to understand the state of school readiness in the Flores region and assess the extent to which these schools apply the three pillar criteria for school disaster warning system. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive ap-proach, with data collection through an open questionnaire distributed using Google Forms. The result showed that the locations of the respondent's schools are spread across the most disaster-prone areas of Flo-res, especially along the coastal areas. In addition, there are still many schools in the region that have diffe-rent levels of understanding and awareness regarding to disaster warning system. Based on that issue, the program for activating the disaster warning system in school area is very important to apply and can increase public awareness of disaster warning system. To achieve that idea, a collaboration between school commit-tees, external parties, and the Flores community is essential to strengthen the school infrastructure and to build an effective response towards potential disaster risks and threats.

Abstract

AbstractThe total lunar eclipse process is an astronomical phenomenon that occurs when the Earth's shadow, called the umbra, covers the entire moon's surface. It can happen when the configuration between the Moon, Earth, and Sun is straight. Therefore, the total lunar eclipse phenomenon will co-occur with the complete moon phase. The purpose of doing this service is to observe the Lunar Eclipse. The method used is observation and filling out the Danjon scale questionnaire. The implementation was carried out on November 8, 2022, starting at 18.00 WITA with participants from the general public and the Universitas Muhammadiyah Maumere community. Based on the implementation results, it is known that the weather conditions at the time of observation were challenging because of cloudy conditions accompanied by drizzle. However, participants can judge the brightness of the lunar eclipse. Keywords: total lunar eclipse; astronomy; danjon scale; observation.

Abstract

The efficacy of NuminaMath 7B, an AI model that was created to address mathematical challenges, is assessed in this investigation. We evaluated the model's accuracy and efficiency against conventional methods through experiments that produced quantitative data. Qualitative data were collected through surveys and interviews with users to gain insight into their experiences and pinpoint areas for improvement. The survey results indicated that users found NuminaMath 7B to be pertinent, effective, and user-friendly, as evidenced by the exceptionally high average scores in user experience (95), perception of features and interface (90), and additional feedback (85). NuminaMath 7B was able to offer mathematical solutions with logical and detailed explanations as a result of the model's development through two phases of adjustments, which were conducted using the Chain of Thought (CoT) methodology and inspiration from the Tool-Integrated Reasoning Agent (ToRA) framework. Testing demonstrated that the model achieved a score of 29 out of 50 in the AI Math Olympiad competition, despite encountering difficulties in resolving more intricate problems. This study underscores the significance and urgency of AI technology, particularly in the field of mathematics, as well as the significant potential of AI models to facilitate a more comprehensive comprehension of mathematical concepts.

Abstract

In November 2024, the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki on Flores Island, Indonesia, resulted in the release of substantial volcanic aerosols, including sulfur dioxide (SO₂) and volcanic debris. These aerosols impacted the environment, health, and aviation activities. The objective of this investigation is to examine the temporal and spatial dynamics of volcanic aerosols by employing the Absorbing Aerosol Index (AAI) in conjunction with TROPOMI satellite data (Sentinel-5P). The methodologies employed are as follows: spatial-temporal analysis with Google Earth Engine (GEE), aerosol dispersion simulation with the HYSPLIT model, and data processing with the Sentinel Application Platform (SNAP). The results indicated a substantial increase in volcanic activity from November 8th to 11th, 2024, as evidenced by an ash column that reached a height of as much as 10,945 m. The distribution of aerosols was influenced by atmospheric dynamics, with high concentrations observed in the vicinity of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki and extending to the east-southeast. Although the level of volcanic activity declined in late November, aerosol concentrations were still detected in the atmosphere. This investigation offers critical insights into the distribution of volcanic aerosols during the eruption and its effects on disaster risk mitigation and air quality. It is anticipated that these discoveries will facilitate the implementation of more sustainable and effective risk management strategies for volcanic eruptions.
