Abstract

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the pattern of the spread of antibiotic-resistant E. coli on pig farms in Kupang City by using mapping analysis. Data on E. coli resistance comes from the results of laboratory analysis and as secondary data for spatial analysis. Spatial analysis uses the nearest neighbour index, convex hull and elementary analysis of disease methods. The results of this study have shown a high prevalence of E. coli (85.4%) with clustered distribution patterns and have a wide spread (10920 ha) in the area in Kupang City. MDR E. coli had a moderate prevalence (57.31%) by forming a group spread pattern and a wide spread (7778 Ha) on pig farms in Kupang City. This result encourages prevention and control efforts by all interested parties so that the rate of spread of resistant E. coli can be reduced.

Abstract

Trichinellosis is a parasitic disease of humans caused by eating raw from domestic or game animals infected by Trichinella spp. Human trichinellosis contracted from commercial supplies of meat have been most often linked to infected pigs, wild boar, or horses. Trichinella is a nematode which has an atypical direct life cycle that does not involve stages developing outside of the host. This study was conducted to see the profile of pig farms in the city of Kupang and the potential transmission of trichinellosis. The data was derived from interview 60 farmers in 6 sub districts in city of Kupang by using a structured questionnaire and analyzed descriptively. The results of the questionnaire survey showed that many race of pig from a mixed race, the seeds come from traditional breeding. Feed rest of the home or restaurant are usually directly given to the pigs. The presence of rat in around of the cage often. All respondents were interviewed did not know or hear about trichinellosis disease which can be one cause of the spread of trichinellosis in city of Kupang.

Abstract

Abstract

In the last few years, multidrug resistant bacteria increased significantly and contaminated chicken carcass through production chain. This study identified the presence of ESBL/AmpC-producing Enterobactericeae collected from the environment of chicken slaughterhouses. Samples were taken before slaughtering process from several points of determined locations. From a total of 84 samples tested, 30 isolates were positive of Enterobactericeae comprising of 22 isolates of E. coli, 6 isolates of Klebsiella oxytoca, and 1 isolate of Kluyvera spp. Confirmation test of ESBL/AmpC phenotypic and antibiotic resistant test to 18 kinds of antibiotics were conducted using MASTDISCS D68C commercial kit and Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion susceptibility test with CLSI (2014) interpretation. All of isolates showed resistance to penicillin, ampicillin, amoxicillin, cefotaxime, cefpodoxime, ceftazidime and some isolates show resistance to streptomycin, gentamicin, trimethoprim-sulphametoxasol, tetracycline, kanamycin, doxycyclin, colistin sulphate, cephalothin, neomycin and polymyxin B. This study demonstrated the existence of ESBL/AmpC-producing Enterobactericeae that were found on the carcasses container, offal container, floors of carcasses, offal handling area, knives and feathers puller machine. The existence of resistant bacteria in the environment of chicken slaughterhouse can lead to occurrence of antibiotic resistant and transmission of resistance genes to other bacteria that could spread to the carcass that was potentially harmful to humans.

Abstract

Milk products consumption has become a new trend of healthy lifestyle among students in order to meet appropriate daily nutrients. This study was aimed to measure the total number of microbes found in milk drinks sold around the IPB Dramaga and Cilibende and to determine factors that influence it. Samples were collected from 13 milk vendors within radius of 2 kilometers from outermost point of campus and taken with 3 repetitions. Calculation of the total number of microbes was done by using the plate count method in accordance with SNI 2897-2008 about testing method of microbial contamination in meat, eggs, and milk, as well as processed products and SNI 01-6366-2000 about the maximum limit of microbial contamination in food. Risk factors’ data was taken by interviewing milk drinks seller using structured questionnaire. Factors that influenced microbial contamination were analyzed using Chi-Square test. The results showed that 74.4% of milk drinks samples had a high total number of microbes. The average total number of microbes in Dramaga and Cilibende samples was 1.0 x 105 ± 1.4 x 105 cfu / ml and 1.1 x 107 ± 1.2 x 107 cfu/ml. The total number of microbes are significantly influenced (p<0.05) by equipments used, the cleanliness of the equipment, the cleanliness of the table, washing hands practice, and the distance from the crowd. The high number of microbial contamination in milk drinks could damage the quality of milk and shorten the shelf life.
