Abstract

Disabilities have equal rights as Indonesian citizens, including employment and entrepreneurship rights. The implementation of policies regarding the obligation of institutions to employ people with disabilities is still far from expected. Limited job information and access to education and job training programs are challenges in realizing economic independence for disabled persons. Therefore, it is very important to conduct community service activities aimed at increasing the entrepreneurial knowledge and skills of the Deaf Community through entrepreneurship training in order to reach economic independence. Nine Deaf Friends and four Sign Language Interpreters were involved in this study. The training was carried out by online method for three sessions, once a week. The questionnaires were distributed to assess the participants' level of knowledge before and after training. Each participant was required to develop and present a business plan in order to improve their entrepreneurial abilities. Two expert judges evaluated and provided constructive feedback to all participants.  The knowledge of participants before the training was 65.9 + 6.2, and increased by 12.4% to 74.1 + 10.8 after training. Participants were able to develop business proposals by the end of the program, with an average score of 7.6 + 0.7. Entrepreneurship training is able to enhance the entrepreneurial knowledge and skills of the Deaf Friends. This entrepreneurship training is a provision to assist the deaf community in creating and developing businesses that will lead to economic independence in the future.

Abstract

Introduction. Stress, anxiety, and depression are common forms of mental health disorders faced by medical students worldwide. These disorders can lead to depression, anxiety, burnout as well as suicidal ideation and attempts. Coping strategies can help students face psychological distress, either through problem-focused coping, emotion-focused coping, or dysfunctional coping. This review aims to provide the prevalence of stress, anxiety, and depression in medical students, along with effective coping strategies to combat these mental health conditions. Method. This review utilized Google Scholar, PubMed, and Scopus to review articles in English and Indonesian. Various keywords were used, such as "Medical students", "Stress", "Anxiety", "Depression", "Coping", "Coping strategy", "Mahasiswa kedokteran", "Stres", "Ansietas", "Kecemasan", "Depresi", "Koping", and "Strategi koping." The initial search identified 394 articles, of which 34 met the inclusion criteria and were included in this review.  Result & Analysis. Varying reports were found regarding the prevalence of stress, anxiety, and depression among medical students. Students who used problem-focused coping showed correlations with lower levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. Dysfunctional coping has a positive correlation with stress, anxiety, and depression. Some claim that emotion-focused coping is found to be correlated with lower levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. On the contrary, several studies found otherwise. Varying factors lead to stress, anxiety, and depression in medical students. Discussion. Different coping strategies yield different results in relation to stress, anxiety, and depression. This proves the need to encourage healthy coping strategies in medical students to combat mental health disorders.

Abstract

Indonesia is a country that is in a strategic position, so it has a high potential to develop horticultural subsectors, one of which is banana commodities. According to data from BPS, there are three provinces in Indonesia with the most banana production, including East Java, Lampung, and West Java. East Java Province produced 2,059,923 tons, followed by Lampung Province with 1,438,559 tons, and West Java Province with 1,125,899 tons. Banana is one type of tropical fruit that is commonly found in Indonesia. The various types of bananas known include Raja bananas, Mas Bananas, Cavendish, Barangan, Kepok, etc. The availability of several types of bananas is constrained due to limited supply. One of the crucial factors in banana development is the availability of healthy and uniform seeds in adequate quantities. The availability of healthy banana seeds is very vital. The way that can be taken to obtain healthy banana seedlings in large amounts is through tissue culture methods. So far, the production of banana seedlings has been hampered by the low level of plantlet multiplication and the high percentage of browning, which causes the death of explants in the initiation phase. In addition, obtaining ready-to-plant banana seedlings usually takes many stages of subculture, thus requiring a lot of time and resources. In vitro plant culture is a method of taking certain plant parts (isolation) to be used as planting material grown under aseptic conditions (free from contaminants) and in a controlled environment. This can be an effective method for the mass propagation of bananas in Indonesia. The utilization of forest land and forest village communities are natural resources and human resources that have the potential to develop this banana commodity. For this reason, it is necessary to provide technical assistance for banana cultivation to the community, especially forest village communities. Through this program, it is hoped that the downstream procedures for planting bananas from in vitro cultures can be widely known and implemented by the local community as a solution to overcoming the problem of the availability of banana seeds during banana cultivation. The service activity begins with discussion and consolidation to identify banana farmers' real issues in Lumajang.

Abstract

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from impaired insulin secretion or action. Long-term antidiabetic therapy may cause adverse effects, highlighting the need for safer alternative treatments. Syzygium polyanthum (bay leaf) contains various bioactive compounds with antidiabetic and antioxidant activities. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Syzygium polyanthum leaf extract on blood glucose, malondialdehyde (MDA) and insulin levels in diabetic rat models through a systematic review. This review was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Literature searches were performed in PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar. Included studies were experimental in vivo studies using diabetic rat models that assessed the effects of Syzygium polyanthum extract on blood glucose, insulin, and/or MDA levels. Risk of bias was evaluated using the CAMARADES tool. The results showed that administration of Syzygium polyanthum extract at doses of 250–500 mg/kg body weight consistently reduced blood glucose levels, accompanied by increased insulin levels and decreased MDA levels. These findings indicate that Syzygium polyanthum leaf extract has potential antidiabetic and antioxidant effects in animal models of diabetes
