Abstract

Penelitian ini, berjudul Istilah Sapaan yang Digunakan oleh Karakter dalam Film Barbie: Princess Charm School, mengeksplorasi penggunaan istilah sapaan dalam film untuk merujuk pada orang yang diajak bicara. Istilah-istilah ini mencerminkan hubungan sosial antara pembicara dan pendengar, menunjukkan keakraban, rasa hormat, atau perbedaan kekuasaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi jenis-jenis istilah sapaan yang digunakan oleh karakter dalam film Barbie: Princess Charm School, dan untuk menganalisis fungsi istilah sapaan yang digunakan oleh karakter dalam film Barbie: Princess Charm School. Pengumpulan data menggunakan dokumentasi, observasi, dan teknik pencatatan, sementara metode kualitatif dan teknik analisis konten digunakan untuk analisis data. Penelitian ini menerapkan teori Wardhaugh tentang jenis-jenis istilah sapaan dan teori Chaika tentang fungsi-fungsinya, yang didukung oleh teori Holmes tentang konteks situasi. Selain itu, metode informal digunakan dalam menyajikan analisis. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat lima jenis istilah sapaan: Nama Depan (FN), Gelar plus Nama Belakang (TLN), Gelar saja (T), Nama Panggilan (PN), dan yang terakhir adalah Istilah Kekerabatan (KT). Namun, tidak ada data yang menunjukkan penggunaan Nama Belakang (LN). Penelitian ini juga menemukan semua penggunaan fungsi istilah sapaan seperti keakraban, rasa hormat, dan perbedaan kekuasaan. Dapat dilihat bahwa untuk menunjukkan keakraban, karakter menggunakan istilah sapaan FN, PN, dan KT. Untuk menunjukkan perbedaan kekuasaan, karakter menggunakan istilah sapaan FN, TLN, dan T. Untuk menunjukkan rasa hormat, karakter menggunakan istilah sapaan T.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the various slang words featured in the movie “On My Block,” with a particular focus on those employed by the main character while also delving into their semantic nuances. This research contributes to a broader understanding of the usage of slang language, enriching the knowledge of listeners and viewers alike. The study employed in this study revolves around documentation. Data collection involved viewing the movie and meticulously documenting dialogues containing slang expressions used by the characters. The subsequent analysis draws upon Partridge’s framework for categorizing slang types, coupled with sourcing slang meanings from Partridge’s dictionary. The study adopts a multifaceted approach, encompassing both formal and informal methods to present the analytical findings. The research findings effectively address two critical facets of the research problem. Firstly, they categorize the slang words featured in the “On My Block” movie into three distinct types: Society slang, Cockney slang, and Public House slang. Secondly, the study elucidates the significance of these slang words in the context of the movie, shedding light on their functional roles within conversational exchanges.

Abstract

The title of this article is “Repair in The Dialogue of Frozen Movie”. This article aims to identify and analyze the types of repair and repair operations in the dialogue of Frozen movie. The data was taken from the dialogue in Frozen movie which was downloaded from the internet and the data are in the form of utterances. In the data collection, it used a qualitative method. This article used the theory proposed by Schegloff, Jefferson, and Sacks (1977) to classify the types of repairs and Schegloff (2013) to analyze the repair operations. The result of this research shows that all of the four types of repairs found in the dialogue of Frozen movie, namely self-initiated self-repair, self-initiated other-repair, other-initiated self-repair, and other-initiated other-repair. The result also shows that the repair operations found in this research, namely replacing, inserting, aborting, and recycling.

Abstract

Short story in literature is a brief work of fiction that usually focused on a single plot, theme, or character. Short story has intrinsic elements like novel, and they are: plot, theme, setting, point of view, character and characterization, and symbol. This research paper aimed to analyze the intrinsic elements specifically the theme in a short story “Runaway” by Alice Munro. In this study, the data source is collected from the short story by Alice Munro entitled “Runaway”. The researcher uses qualitative method and theory of literature by Wellek and Warren to analyze and describe the result of this research. In Alice Munro's "Runaway," Carla, a young woman trapped in an abusive marriage, considers leaving with the help of Sylvia, her neighbor, but she eventually has to deal with the difficulties of fleeing societal norms and her husband's authority. The story examines issues of female friendship, domestic entrapment, and the struggle for independence. The result of this research found three main themes; female friendship, marital struggle, and pursuit of freedom.

Abstract

Slang as an informal language variety has an important role in forming and reflecting the social identity of a group. This study discusses the function of primary slang as a reflection of friendship in an American teen comedy movie entitled Incoming released in 2024. This study aims to identify the form  of primary slangs used in the movie and analyze their functions in reflecting social relations between characters. The method used is descriptive qualitative with documentation techniques. Data are analyzed based on the context of conversations between characters in the movie with an emphasis on the social meaning in the use of primary slang based on the theory of Allan & Burridge (2006). Based on seven functions of slang, there are four functions identified in the analysis, consists of:  to initiate relaxed conversation, to adress, to reveal anger, and to show intimacy. Among the four functions, to initiate relaxed conversation is the most dominant function that appears. This shows that slang is widely used to maintain relaxed, familiar, and humorous interactions between friendly characters. On the other hand, the functions to express impressions, to humuliate, and to form intimate atmosphere were not found in the analyzed data.

Abstract

The research entitled The Features of Women’s Language Spoken by the Female Characters in Raya and The Last Dragon Movie. It aims to identify the type of women’s language features based on Lakoff's (2004) theory and the social context based on Holmes's (2013) theory. This research studied and reviewed some studies related to women’s language. This research was conducted by using a descriptive qualitative method, for collecting the data was watched the movie several times, read subtitles of the movie, and selected the female character’s utterances that contain the women’s language features. As a result, there are found 63 data women’s language features in this movie. There were seven types of women’s language features found in this movie. There were lexical hedges or fillers, tag questions, intensifiers, rising intonation, empty adjectives, super polite forms, and emphatic stress. Based on the findings of type of women’s language features, there were social contexts such as the participants, the participants in this movie are Sisu, Raya, Boun, Namaari, Dang Hu, Tong, Virana, and Benja. The setting, this movie mostly takes place while sailing in the ocean on a boat. The topics, the topic discussed are mostly about gems and how to save the world from druun and the function.
