Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyse the contribution of policy and regulatory environment in measuring the Sustainable Tourism Index of Tourism Villages in Indonesia. The research focuses on four tourist villages, namely Penglipuran (Bali), Nglanggeran (Yogyakarta), Setanggor (West Nusa Tenggara), and Belitar Seberang (Bengkulu). This research uses a mixed method approach. The Sustainable Tourism Index from The Economist Intelligence Unit was developed in measuring the Sustainable Tourism Index of Tourism Villages in Indonesia. The results showed that the contribution of the policy and regulatory environment category in the formation of the Sustainable Tourism Index in Indonesia was 35.77 or with an average indicator performance of 89.54%. All tourist villages in Indonesia have conducted cooperation between public and private stakeholders and have conducted an inventory of tourism assets. Most of the tourist villages have village regulations on local tourism, milestones and action plans, monitoring and evaluation metrics as well as leasing and licensing for tourism activities and have a stable political environment. However, not all tourist villages have implemented global standards. In order to increase international tourist arrivals, global standards are needed in the management of tourism villages in Indonesia.

Abstract

The mangrove forests are a type of salt tolerant vegetation, living in tidal zones in tropical and subtropical coastalareas with unique ecosystem that have a strategic function as a connector and counterweight of terrestrial and marineecosystems. Mangrove forests are a productive ecosystem and they have complex functions, such as physical functions, biological functions and socio-economic functions. Fishery resources of mangrove forests are very productive, bothquantitatively and qualitatively, because the mangrove forests act as the natural habitat (spawning, nursery and feedinggrounds) for various species of fish, shrimps and crabs, as well as a source of germplasm and genetic pool. Mangroveforests also provide valuable ecosystem services to coastal communities, tourist attractions, nature conservation, education and research. However, these ecosystems are fragile because it is very sensitive to environmental changes, usually because anthropogenic influences; therefore, it is difficult to be restored. In addition, these ecosystems are soopenly accessible that easily exploited by humans; this can reduce its quality and quantity. Local communities who usemangrove forests and their resources may have considerable botanical and ecological knowledge about their forests.Silvofishery techniques in aquaculture are very suitable for community-based mangrove forests conservation efforts.Silvofishery is an integrated model that considers both economically benefit and conservation.Key words: mangrove conservation, sustainable fisheries, community-based

Abstract

This research examines the economic behaviour of independent oil palm smallholders in fulfilling household expenditures from all their income sources and their level of welfare at present and the stability in the future. The income of oil palm smallholders in Megang Sakti District, Musi Rawas Regency, was IDR 24,731,506 per hectare per year. The total income of the farm household was IDR 43,614,839 per year, which was contributed by the oil palm plantation, the non-oil palm plantation, and non-farming productive activities. All household expenditures could be covered by all existing sources of income, and the net future income will increase as the oil palm plantation enters productive age periods. It has been revealed that oil palm plantations operated by independent smallholders present significant opportunities for economic growth and rural development, but they raise challenges related to sustainability, market access, and social equity. The independent oil palm farmers are recommended to (1) form an independent farmer institution and implement proper and sustainable institution management and (2) submit a proposal to the Oil Palm Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDPKS) and other financial institutions to demand a grant or get a loan at an affordable interest rate for financing their future business activities. Furthermore, there are ten practical actions that can be implemented by the independent oil palm smallholders.

Abstract

In carrying out rice farming in non tidal swamp land, farmers face various problems. The problems or obstacles faced by farmers cause low productivity and sometimes crop failure. Low productivity has an impact on the low income earned by farming households and in aggregate can disrupt national food security and security. If the income earned by farmers from rice farming continues to decline, it is likely that farmers' interest in cultivating rice will also decrease and over time this will threaten the sustainability of rice farming in non tidal swamp areas. Therefore, this research aims to (1) Analyze the factors that are problematic in non tidal swamp land in rice farming, (2) Analyze indicators of interest in the sustainability of non tidal swamp rice farming in South Sumatra Province and (3) Analyze The influence of the problems of non tidal swamp land on farmers' interest in continuing to cultivate rice in non tidal swamp land. The research method used was a survey method with 80 farmers as respondents. The data analysis used in this research is multiple regression analysis and sustainability index figures. The TKT output target of this research is that the important concepts and characteristics of a technology have been proven analytically and experimentally. The results of the research show that the educational human capital variable has a significant effect on problems in the non tidal swamp area. From the results of the analysis, it can also be seen that the sustainability value is 55, meaning that the sustainability of rice farming in the non tidal swamps of South Sumatra Province is at a fairly sustainable level. These results are also in line with field conditions, where farmers still want or are interested in continuing to carry out rice farming in non tidal swamp land. The relationship obtained from the data analysis carried out between the problems of non tidal swamp land and the interest in sustainable farming which was analyzed using a correlation test had a value of 0.45, which means that there is a fairly strong relationship between the problems of lowland swamp land and farmers' interest in continuing to carry out sustainable farming.

Abstract

Peatland restoration cannot be separated from balancing ecological functions and the needs of community life. Empowering farmers is the initial capital for a peat restoration program with a 3R strategy (rewetting, revegetation, revitalization) that can be carried out appropriately. This balancing concept is useful for environmental sustainability and also the livelihoods of local peat communities. The aim of this research is to analyze the optimization of the paludiculture model as a livelihood to improve the welfare of farmers in the peatlands of South Sumatra. This research uses a survey method conducted in Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI) Regency, one of the four priority districts for peat restoration in South Sumatra Province. Data analysis uses an optimization model, namely maximum income and profit, optimal land use and labor, analyzed using a Linear Programming model with land, capital and labor constraints. The results of the research show that the balance of peatland ecosystem functions must be harmonized with maintaining sources of livelihood that can be carried out by generations of farming communities, namely the need to optimize community income by implementing the paludiculture model which provides optimal benefits obtained from the third scenario, agrosilvofishery, agrisilviculture and agroforestry, which is from the Scenario The third has an optimal profit in the agroforestry scenario of IDR. 71,629,870/year.
