Abstract

The textile industry in Indonesia is developing. This development aligns with the amount of waste produced, such as dyes and metal waste, which can harm the environment and must be processed. One of the waste treatment methods that can be used is adsorption using zeolite. This study aims to determine the absorption effectiveness of Bayah natural zeolite adsorbents on lead and methyl violet waste. The zeolite was mashed and uniformed in size up to 80 mesh and then washed and heated to 120℃ to remove impurities in the zeolite. Then the zeolite was activated using 1 M HCl and 1 M NaOH activators and calcined at 500 ℃ for 4 hours. This research was carried out by varying the mass of the adsorbent as much as 0.5 and 1 g and the adsorption stirring time for 30 and 60 minutes. The results show that the maximum adsorption capacity was 181.84 mg/g with an efficiency of 91% for methyl violet adsorption and 198.7 mg/g with an efficiency of 99.57% for lead adsorption. The adsorption of natural zeolite on methyl violet and lead metal followed the Langmuir isotherm pattern with adsorption capacity of 23.04 mg/g and 87.72 mg/g, respectively.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the effect of UV irradiation on the yield and physical characteristics of biodiesel from candlenut oil using a TiO2-K2O/natural zeolite composite. Natural zeolite was activated with KOH and impregnated with TiO2. The formed composite was analyzed with an X-ray diffractometer. Biodiesel was synthesized with candlenut oil to methanol molar ratio and catalyst loading (w/w oil) 1:4, 1:6, 1:8, and 2, 4, and 6%, respectively. The XRD analysis shows peak patterns of anatase and rutile TiO2, K2O, and zeolite. UV light can increase biodiesel yield, with the highest yield at 82.08% at oil to methanol molar ratio of 1:8 and a catalyst loading of 2%. The physical properties of biodiesel are in accordance with national standard SNI 7182:2015. GCMS results shows that the main components of fatty acid methyl ester from biodiesel are methyl oleate, methyl palmitate, and methyl linoleate.

Abstract

Coconut sap produced from coconut trees has a short shelf life due to contamination and undergoes natural fermentation. One way to extend the shelf life of coconut sap is by adding preservatives. This research aims to determine the effect of adding natural preservative extracts on the antioxidant value, pH, sugar, and alcohol content of coconut sap by adding natural preservatives. There are five samples: pure sap (NM); sap with sugar lime (NK); sap with sugar lime and cinnamon extract (NKM); sap with sugar lime and mango leaf extract (NDM); sap with sugar lime and noni leaf extract (NKD). The study was conducted by extracting natural preservatives, namely cinnamon extract, mango leaves extract, and noni leaves extract, using the maceration method. These natural preservative extracts were mixed with Ca(OH)2 in a 1:1 ratio and dissolved in distilled water. The mixture was then mixed with the sap. The results of the antioxidant test showed that the IC50 values of the NM, NK, NKM, NDM, and NKD samples were 52.911, 144.409, 26.043, 49.275, and 24.21 ppm, respectively. The highest pH value was found in the NK sample at 13.8, and the lowest in the NM sample at 3.8. The lowest sugar content was in the NM and NDK samples, with 10.6 and 14.6%. The highest alcohol content was found in the NK and NKD samples, with alcohol contents of 14.80% and 14.20%. This study shows that adding natural preservatives such as cinnamon, mango leaves, and noni leaves can increase the antioxidant activity of coconut sap, raise its pH, and maintain its sugar content to prevent it from being reduced to alcohol.

Abstract

Cikebel Atas is one of the villages in the Cilegon area, Banten, which is located in a rural area andfar from urban influences. In this village the level of education of the people is very low, and dailylivelihoods are as laborers or motorcycle taxi drivers. Actually this village has the potential forabundant agricultural products, namely in the form of peanuts. Due to lack of knowledge, villagersusually sell these peanuts to collectors at low prices. Peanuts can actually be processed into superiorprocessed products that are characteristic of the region, namely peanut tempeh, peyek, or otherproducts that have higher economic value. The community service program is conducted to providemotivation and knowledge to the community about entrepreneurship, especially in terms of localcommodity management in the form of peanuts. The method is arranged in several concrete steps, namely in the form of counseling or outreach, as well as direct training and practice for peanuttempeh and peyek processing technology. Through these concrete programs, it is targeted that therewill be a change in people's lives in the village of Cikebel Atas, Cilegon, Banten, for the better.

Abstract

The study investigates the impact of surfactant concentration and mixing time on the physical properties and stability of emulsions in non-baffle mixing systems. Surfactants, known for their ability to reduce interfacial tension, play a pivotal role in enhancing emulsion stability by promoting uniform droplet dispersion and reducing coalescence. Experiments were conducted using varying surfactant concentrations (0, 5, and 10 mL) to evaluate their effects on key parameters such as density, viscosity, Reynolds number, emulsion height, and stability over time. The results revealed that higher surfactant concentrations significantly improved emulsion uniformity and stability, with the 10 mL concentration yielding the most consistent outcomes. However, the absence of baffles introduced challenges, including prolonged mixing times and stratification tendencies, underscoring the need for optimized mixing configurations. These findings have practical implications for industries reliant on stable emulsions, highlighting the importance of balancing surfactant concentration and mixing dynamics to achieve efficient and cost-effective processes.

Abstract

The increasing number of vehicles in Indonesia has increased air pollution and fuel consumption. The fuels commonly used come from fossil, the availability of which is limited. One solution that can be applied is switching to alternative energy, such as biodiesel from vegetable oils, including used cooking oil. This study investigates the effect of reactant ratio, catalyst weight, UV exposure, and catalyst reusability on biodiesel yield and characteristics (density and viscosity) according to Indonesian national standards (SNI). The method used involves the impregnation of CaO catalysts with TiO2 photocatalysts and simultaneous transesterification-esterification reaction for biodiesel production, with oil to methanol molar ratios of 1:6, 1:9, and 1:12 and catalyst weights of 3, 5, and 7%. The results showed that the best product had a yield of 90.6%, a density of 882 kg/m³, and a viscosity of 2.45 mm2/s at a reactant ratio of 1:9 and a catalyst weight of 5%, with UV exposure for 4 hours at a temperature of 65°C. XRD and EDS analysis revealed the presence of CaO-TiO2 compounds in the synthesized photocatalyst, and the GCMS analysis shows that FAME (fatty acid methyl ester) content in the biodiesel is more than 96%.
