Abstract

This research aims to describe and analyze the implementation of game-based language literacy in improving the literacy skills of lower-grade students at SDN 46 Ampenan. The study addresses the issues of low reading interest, limited reading comprehension, and the dominance of conventional teacher-centered learning methods. Using a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with teachers and students, and documentation. Data analysis followed the interactive model by Miles and Huberman, involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that game-based literacy, incorporating educational games into reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities, significantly increases student motivation and active participation. The integration of game elements creates a dynamic and enjoyable learning environment, allowing students to learn naturally through direct experience, which leads to a deeper and more meaningful understanding of literacy.

Abstract

This study aims to implement the Kamis Literasi Numerasi Ceria (KALCER) program as an innovative approach to improving the basic literacy skills of elementary school students through a word-based educational game. The program focuses on developing the ability to form words, read, and write in a fun and interactive manner. This research employs the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method to assess the impact of this program within a single class session. Quantitative data were collected through a simple literacy test conducted before and after the game. Additionally, student attitudes, motivation, and perceptions during the literacy activity were assessed through direct observation. The results indicate that the implementation of KALCER successfully enhanced student engagement in literacy activities, word-forming skills, and writing quality on the whiteboard. The challenges identified were related to classroom management, particularly with students who were difficult to control. Overall, the program proved effective in enhancing student literacy and can serve as an innovative learning model in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the low literacy skills of elementary school students, particularly in reading comprehension and retelling texts, which are influenced by less varied, teacher-centered instructional methods. The study aims to examine the effectiveness of the “Mystery Story Box” as a learning medium to improve the literacy skills of third-grade students at SDN 47 Ampenan. This research employs a qualitative approach using Classroom Action Research (CAR), conducted in two cycles consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. Data were collected through observation, tests, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using both qualitative descriptive and quantitative methods, with a success indicator of at least 75% of students achieving mastery. The results show that the use of the “Mystery Story Box” significantly improves students’ reading comprehension, retelling skills, and active participation in learning. Therefore, this medium is considered effective as an interactive, engaging, and meaningful innovation in literacy learning for elementary school students.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the implementation of literacy clinics as a strategic approach to strengthening elementary school students’ reading skills within instructional contexts that remain largely uniform and insufficiently responsive to diverse learning needs. The study employs a Systematic Literature Review design combined with a descriptive qualitative approach to develop a comprehensive understanding of literacy clinic practices, drawing on scholarly publications indexed in Google Scholar from 2016 to 2026 that were selected based on relevance and methodological rigor. The findings indicate that literacy clinics function not merely as remedial programs for struggling readers, but also as diagnostic frameworks capable of identifying specific learning barriers. Through structured and flexible interventions, these programs contribute to improvements in reading accuracy, text comprehension, and students’ active engagement in the learning process, while also encouraging a shift in teachers’ pedagogical practices toward more adaptive, reflective, and student-centered approaches. Furthermore, the effectiveness of literacy clinics is closely linked to teachers’ diagnostic competence, consistency in implementation, and the presence of a supportive school environment, suggesting that literacy clinics should be positioned not only as remedial interventions but also as transformative pedagogical models that foster the sustainable development of foundational literacy skills in elementary education

Abstract

Reading literacy is a fundamental skill that should be developed from the elementary school level, as it serves as the foundation for students to understand information, acquire knowledge, and participate effectively in the learning process. However, many students still face difficulties in recognizing new vocabulary, understanding word meanings, and connecting information obtained from reading materials. This condition highlights the need for instructional media that can support literacy activities in an engaging manner and align with the characteristics of elementary school learners. This study aimed to describe the utilization of a trigger vocabulary board as an effort to strengthen the reading literacy of second-grade students at SDIT Al-Mahmud. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. The participants consisted of 20 second-grade students and one classroom teacher. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing techniques. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation and technique triangulation. The findings revealed that the use of the trigger vocabulary board helped students recognize and understand new vocabulary more easily through activities such as reading, observing, pronouncing, and applying words in simple sentences. The media also encouraged students to participate more actively in classroom learning, increased their interest in reading, and enhanced their confidence in presenting their learning outcomes. In addition, the vocabulary board assisted teachers in creating a more interactive, engaging, and meaningful learning environment. Although several students still required more intensive guidance in reading activities, the overall implementation of the trigger vocabulary board contributed positively to the improvement of students’ reading literacy. Therefore, this media can be considered an effective alternative for supporting sustainable literacy programs in elementary schools.
