Abstract

School-age children are susceptible to disease and need health supervision. Children who are sick have a high dependence on others in terms of self-care. Children who are sick and unable to fulfill their self-care will experience self-care deficit problems. One component of personal hygiene often forgotten when self-care during illness oral hygiene is. This study aims to determine how health education using animated video media on oral hygiene can improve family and patient knowledge of self-care, especially oral hygiene. This research is a descriptive, quantitative study that uses a case study approach. The research design was a one-group pre-test-post-test design, in which a knowledge questionnaire was administered before and after health education. There are differences in knowledge scores before and after health education is provided to both families and patients, with increased knowledge of oral hygiene. Evaluation of oral hygiene using the OHI-S score shows a decrease in score, indicating improvement from poor to moderate, and is performed 4 times every 24 hours until discharge. Providing oral hygiene education can increase parents' and patients' knowledge and interest in self-care.

Abstract

Agricultural workers face complex work pressures such as social isolation, weather dependency, and limited access to health services, which impact their mental health. Agronursing is emerging as a nursing approach that is responsive to the specific needs of agrarian communities in a holistic and culturally based manner. This article explores the role of agronursing in supporting farmworkers' mental health through contextualized and sustainable interventions. This literature review employed a systematic search in ScienceDirect, PubMed, and MDPI databases for articles published between 2020 and 2025. From 4,371 identified articles, a multi-stage screening and eligibility process was conducted, resulting in 10 articles that met all inclusion criteria for final analysis. Burnout and mental health problems are prevalent among agricultural workers due to various internal and external stressors. Various approaches, such as increasing psychological and social capital, self-coping strategies, and multimodal interventions, have proven effective in maintaining farmers' mental well-being. An agronursing perspective and community support are important in sustainably building farmers' psychological resilience. Farmers' mental health is adversely affected by economic stress, overwork, and social isolation, with stigma and mistrust hindering access to support. Effective interventions must be context-sensitive and involve farmers to ensure psychological impact and community acceptance.

Abstract

Pesticide exposure is one of the most significant risks farmers faces, especially regarding respiratory health. Lack of understanding about using personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work procedures makes farmers vulnerable to respiratory problems. This study aims to identify the impact of pesticide exposure on farmers' respiratory health from an agronursing perspective. This research is a literature review study that uses a quantitative descriptive approach. The sample was taken from 10 articles from PubMed, Science Direct, and Semantic Scholar, which were considered most relevant. The study showed pesticide exposure is significantly associated with increased respiratory disorders such as asthma, chronic cough, and decreased lung function. Risk factors include frequency of spraying, type of pesticide, and lack of PPE use. The agronursing approach is important in the prevention and management of health impacts due to pesticides. The role of nurses as educators, behavior change facilitators, and intervention developers is essential to increase farmers' awareness and health protection.

Abstract

The use of pesticides in agriculture increases crop yields, but poses health risks to farmers, especially without PPE. Global data shows a high rate of pesticide poisoning, especially in developing countries. In Indonesia, farmers' awareness and compliance with the use of PPE are still low due to factors related to education, training, and risk perception. This study aims to analyze the level of awareness among farmers regarding the use of PPE and the factors that influence their occupational safety practices when using pesticides. This study employed a literature review method, searching articles from three electronic databases: PubMed, ScienceDirect, and SpringerLink. The selection of articles was carried out in stages based on the keywords used "farmers" OR "agricultural workers" AND "awareness" OR "knowledge" OR "perception" AND "personal protective equipment" OR "PPE" AND "use" OR "utilization" OR "practice" AND "analysis" OR "study" OR "assessment", until 12 primary articles were analyzed in depth. The results show that the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) remains relatively low and inconsistent, despite most individuals having received training and sufficient knowledge. There is a gap between knowledge and practice of PPE use among tobacco farmers, which is influenced by various social and structural factors. Educational interventions based on behavioral models, cross-sectoral involvement, and the provision of adequate PPE are essential to improve farmers' work safety sustainably.

Abstract

Pesticide exposure among farmers poses significant health risks globally; however, comprehensive recent evidence on the role of nursing in mitigating these hazards remains underexplored. This systematic review aims to synthesize empirical findings from 2024 to 2025 on the health impacts of pesticide exposure in farming populations and discusses implications for agronursing practice. Following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, a systematic search was conducted across Scopus, PubMed, and ProQuest using the keywords "pesticide," "farmer," and "nursing." From an initial pool of 2,757 records, 10 original research articles published between 2024 and 2025 met the inclusion criteria: full-text, English-language, open-access, peer-reviewed research articles with ethical clearance, an active DOI, and no study design restrictions beyond excluding non-original works. The 10 included studies were conducted in Thailand, Spain, Greece, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Türkiye, and India. These studies revealed consistent associations between pesticide exposure and adverse health outcomes, including sleep disorders, depression, suicide attempts, oxidative stress, DNA damage, elevated inflammatory markers, and increased stroke risk biomarkers. Behavioral assessments indicated widespread deficiencies in safe pesticide handling and low risk perception. Importantly, nurse-led interventions demonstrated effectiveness in improving occupational health service delivery and farmer knowledge. Pesticide exposure continues to pose a risk to farmers' health across diverse global settings. Agronursing emerges as a vital interdisciplinary approach to address this challenge through education, early detection, advocacy, and community-based prevention. Integrating agronursing competencies into primary healthcare and nursing curricula is crucial for protecting agricultural workers and promoting sustainable rural health.

Abstract

Climate change increasingly affects agricultural systems and the health of farmers who depend directly on environmental conditions. This study aimed to systematically review recent evidence on the impacts of climate change on farmers’ health and its implications for agronursing. A systematic review was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines using three databases: Scopus, PubMed, and ProQuest. Articles published between 2025 and 2026 that met predefined inclusion criteria were selected, and their methodological quality was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute critical appraisal tools. The search identified 6,262 records, and 10 studies met the eligibility criteria for final analysis. The findings indicate that climate change affects farmers’ health through multiple pathways, including heat stress, food insecurity, environmental exposure, and psychological distress. Several studies also highlight the importance of knowledge, coping strategies, and community adaptation in improving farmers’ resilience. Climate change poses significant challenges to farmers' health. Agronursing plays an important role in promoting occupational and mental health, and in supporting community-based adaptation strategies to improve the well-being of farming communities.

Abstract

Antiretroviral (ARV) therapy has become the standard of minimal care for people living with HIV. The length of treatment has an impact on the adherence toward ARV consumption. Non-adherence to ARV treatment will result in loss to follow-up and can worsen the condition. Social cadres are active in assisting the government in preventing loss to follow-up. The obstacles they face are the lack of optimal monitoring of ARV consumption and knowledge about ARV. This community service activity aimed to strengthening and optimizing the role of PLWHA social cadres. This activity consists of three stages: (1) focus group discussions with PLWHA mentoring cadres on challenges and problem-solving strategies, (2) drafting guidelines for monitoring ARV consumption for PLWHA that social cadres can use, and (3) training for PLWHA mentoring cadres on mastery of ARV concepts and loss to follow-up prevention management. The activity results show that there is a solution to the problems faced by social cadres in the form of a strategy for monitoring ARV consumption and increasing knowledge of PLWHA about ARV therapy and efforts to reduce the incidence of loss to follow-up. It is hoped that this activity will continue to evaluate the success of this problem-solving strategy and that social cadres can play an active role in reducing the incidence of loss to follow-up.

Abstract

Happiness at work (HAW) plays a critical role in nurses’ performance and their ability to deliver compassionate care, as it affects nurses’ motivation, empathy, and caring behavior. However, culturally grounded interventions to improve nurses’ happiness, particularly within Islamic spiritual frameworks, remain underexplored. Therefore, this study examined the effect of an Islamic-based spiritual program based on local religious and cultural values on nurses’ HAW. This research employed a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group. The intervention included a structured religious talk on the meaning of life and daily listening to Quranic recitations (murottal) during work for four weeks. The study involved 64 inpatient nurses from hospitals. The participants were assigned to an intervention group (n = 32) and a control group (n = 32). Data were collected using the Shortened HAW questionnaire and analyzed using repeated-measures ANOVA and the Kruskal–Wallis test. The results showed that happiness scores increased significantly in the intervention group (mean difference = 1.53, p < 0.001; η² = 0.354). In contrast, the control group showed minimal change. These findings indicate that Islamic-based spiritual programs can effectively enhance nurses’ happiness at work and may contribute to nurse retention, strengthen caring values, and improve healthcare quality.

Abstract

The elderly are individuals aged over 60 years. Hypertension is a condition characterized by an increase in systolic blood pressure equal to or greater than 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure equal to or greater than 90 mmHg. In the elderly, one of the physiological changes that occurs is a decline in cognitive function. The cognitive system refers to functions involved in thinking, remembering, learning, reasoning, and problem-solving processes. Based on screening results conducted by students at UPT PSTW Puger Jember, specifically in Wisma Teratai and Wisma Cempaka, 14 out of 20 elderly residents were found to have high blood pressure. The activities implemented included a pre-implementation stage, which involved measuring blood pressure before performing hypertension exercises. This was followed by health education related to hypertension and the hypertension exercise session itself. The final stage was the evaluation phase, which involved measuring blood pressure again after the exercise. The Group Activity Therapy (GAT) for hypertension exercise was carried out to help the elderly prevent high blood pressure and maintain it within a normal range.
