Abstract

Indonesia is one of the tobacco producer countries in the world and ranks sixth out of the ten largest cigarette consuming countries in the world. Cigarettes kill more than five million people every year, and are projected to kill ten million people by 2020. Of that number 70% of victims come from developing countries including Indonesia. One of the government's efforts in controlling the negative impact of cigarette consumption is by setting cigarette excise prices. The government increases the cigarette excise price by 10.04 percent which is valid from January 1, 2018. Price elasticity, income, and socio-economic factors that influence consumer response are very important as a reference in determining cigarette consumption control policies. In this connection, this study aims to analyze the effect of socioeconomic factors, individual income, and cigarette prices on cigarette consumption in Indonesia. By using a simple linear regression model. The data used was obtained from IFLS-5 published by RAND (Research and Development Corporation). The results of this study found that socioeconomic factors, namely gender and age, individual income, and cigarette prices have no effect on cigarette consumption in Indonesia.

Abstract

Gender is one of the important issues and current discussions in North Kalimantan Province. This is indicated by the contribution of women as workers in North Kalimantan who still lack participation with the gender empowerment index being in the range of 50 to 60. Focusing on the role and function of women in society and government in their contribution to the regional economy of North Kalimantan Province, it is necessary to increase the active role of women. The role and function of women is measured by 3 (three) factors, namely the presence of women in parliament, women in professional staff, women's income so that these three factors are independent variables in the research, which will influence the gender empowerment factor which is used as the dependent variable in this research. Developing and balanced gender empowerment can formally increase the role and position of women workers in society and encourage sustainable development in North Kalimantan Province. This research is quantitative research with secondary data sourced from BPS North Kalimantan Province. The research sample used 5 districts/cities in North Kalimantan Province, namely Kab. Malinau, Kab. Bulungan, Kab. Tana Tidung, Kab. Nunukan, Tarakan City. The research method uses a panel method for the period 2017 to 2022, with a panel data multiple linear regression model. The analytical tool used to calculate research data is Eviews 10. The alpha (α) value in the research is 5% or equivalent to 0.05 and the result is that all independent variables in the research are able to influence the dependent variable, namely the gender empowerment index to improve the role and position of the workforce. women and encourage sustainable development in North Kalimantan Province in the long term and support SDG's point 5, namely gender equality.

Abstract

The contemporary work environment underscores the necessity of competition among individuals to enhance skills and expertise in specific fields. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the improvement in skills and expertise, particularly in the context of students' comprehension of accounting. The research focuses on accounting students in the Faculty of Economics and Business at Wijaya Kusuma University Surabaya (UWKS). Employing an associative and quantitative approach, the study utilizes an online questionnaire as the primary instrument for data collection from respondents. The research population includes 51 students, with a sample size of 51 individuals, and 36 respondents provided responses. Classical assumption tests, such as normality, multicollinearity, and heteroskedasticity tests, were applied, along with multiple linear regression for quantitative data analysis. Hypothesis testing involved partial t-tests, simultaneous F-tests, and coefficient of determination assessments. The analysis revealed that emotional intelligence and learning behavior variables each had a positive partial effect. Simultaneously, both significantly influenced students' comprehension levels, as evidenced by a significant F-value (33.338) and a Sig. value lower than 0.05. Thus, both partially and simultaneously, this research demonstrates that emotional intelligence and student learning behavior significantly impact the comprehension levels of students at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at UWKS.

Abstract

This study investigated the effect of calcination temperature on the phase composition and crystal size of zinc oxide powders synthesised by the sol-gel method. Zn powder, HCl and NaOH were used as precursors in a multi-step process involving dissolution, titration, gel formation, leaching, drying and calcination at temperatures ranging from 300°C to 700°C for 2 hours. Rietveld analysis of X-ray diffraction (XRD) data using MAUD and Rietica software determined phase composition and crystal size. Initial analysis identified a single simonkolleite phase (Zn5(OH)8Cl2) prior to calcination, which disappeared at 500°C. Wurtzite (ZnO) appeared at 300°C, accompanied by secondary phases (NaCl and ZnCl2). The wurtzite content increased to 81.42 wt% at 700°C. Calcination temperature also influenced crystal size, which ranged from 27.34 nm to 110.61 nm for wurtzite at different temperatures. The results highlight the dynamic changes in phase composition and crystal size with different calcination temperatures, providing valuable insights into tailoring zinc oxide properties for various applications.
