Abstract

Environmental issues such as pollution, waste, and climate change demand collective awareness. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 13 (Climate Action), emphasize adaptation, mitigation, and climate literacy. In the digital era, TikTok has proven effective in disseminating sustainability messages. This study analyzes the representation of climate action on the @pandawaragroup account using a descriptive qualitative approach and a case study method. Fifteen videos were purposively selected based on high engagement and relevance to Climate Action indicators. Content analysis was conducted through stages of selection, analysis, interpretation, and conclusion, combined with interactive analysis to understand meaning and social context. The results show that @pandawaragroup’s content aligns with the targets of Climate Action, particularly by depicting environmental crises such as floods caused by waste accumulation, educating the public on waste management, and encouraging community participation in clean-up activities. The representation of climate action is also reflected through collaborations with communities and government institutions in mitigation efforts and environmental preservation campaigns. The use of simple and emotional communication effectively raises awareness among younger generations, expands sustainable public advocacy, and encourages community participation in local environmental actions.

Abstract

This study examines oligarchic political discourse in Tempo.co’s Bocor Alus Politik podcast episode “Pertamina and Riza Chalid’s Political Network.” It investigates how political–economic power relations are represented in media narratives when discussing Indonesia’s energy governance, particularly regarding fuel imports, policy “conditioning,” and elite networks. The research employs a descriptive qualitative design and Teun A. van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis framework, focusing on the dimensions of text, social cognition, and social context. The findings show that the podcast constructs oligarchy as a mode of power operating beyond formal state institutions through interconnected political and business actors that mutually reinforce protection and access. Riza Chalid is framed not merely as a businessman but as an informal political actor perceived to influence national energy policy and the distribution of rents. Evaluative lexical choices such as “Gasoline Godfather,” “old modus,” and the metaphor “out of the tiger’s mouth into the crocodile’s jaws” function to sharpen criticism that the issue is not reducible to individual wrongdoing, but rooted in structural continuity and the reproduction of networks. These results align with Jeffrey A. Winters’s concept of oligarchy as income defense, in which political power is used to secure wealth accumulation and protection by a narrow elite. Practically, the podcast as a digital platform operates as a space of counter-discourse, expanding public understanding of the nexus between media, power, and energy politics.

Abstract

In the digital era, social media has become an essential platform for brands to communicate their identity and engage with audiences. As one of Indonesia’s long-established local cosmetic brands, Viva Cosmetics utilizes Instagram to maintain its relevance and strengthen its brand image amid increasing competition in the beauty industry. This study aims to analyze how Viva Cosmetics constructs its brand identity through Instagram content using the Brand Identity Prism framework. The research employs a qualitative approach using content analysis by examining more than twenty posts from the official Instagram account of Viva Cosmetics. The analysis focuses on several dimensions of the Brand Identity Prism, including physique, culture, relationship, reflection, and self-image. The results indicate that the physique dimension is the most dominant element in Viva’s Instagram content, where product visuals, packaging, textures, shades, and functional benefits are prominently displayed. Additionally, the brand reinforces its local identity by presenting representations of Indonesian consumers and using simple, relatable communication styles. The relationship dimension is reflected through testimonials and interactive messages that emphasize consumer loyalty and long-term trust toward the brand. Meanwhile, the reflection and self-image dimensions portray consumers as women who practice simple self-care, value practicality, and maintain confidence in their appearance. These findings suggest that Viva Cosmetics strategically uses Instagram not only as a promotional platform but also as a medium to reinforce its identity as a legendary local brand that remains relevant across generations. The study highlights the importance of consistent brand identity representation and adaptive digital communication strategies in maintaining brand heritage and strengthening relationships with consumers in the digital environment.

Abstract

The phenomenon of utilizing Grok, an artificial intelligence (AI) developed by xAI on the X platform, as a critic mediator amidst the threat of ambiguous clauses in the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE) which creates a chilling effect on the Indonesian public, motivates this research. This study aimed to identify the patterns and language styles of X users in constructing hidden resistance against the image and performance of the police through the Grok mention mechanism. This research used a qualitative approach with James C. Scott’s Hidden Resistance concept and Rodney H. Jones’ Digital Discourse Analysis method, covering text, context, action and interaction, and ideology and power dimensions. The research data consisted of 35 tweets collected through purposive sampling from March to August 2025. The results showed that X users strategically utilized Grok’s technological affordances as a legal shield through the use of sarcasm, satire, and cynicism, as well as rhetorical questions and derogatory expressions. A pattern of feigned ignorance was identified, where users guided the AI to validate the realities of Indonesian police image and performance without making direct personal accusations. This research concluded that the presence of Grok AI has become a tool for subordinate groups to safely delegitimize the dominant narrative of the police institution and has evolved into a non-human actor that maintains the public’s freedom of expression.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the experience and meaning-making of inclusive communication in the work environment of Deaf baristas at Kopi Tutur Rasa Café, Surabaya. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach grounded in Alfred Schutz's perspective and symbolic interactionism theory, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation involving six informants: two Deaf baristas, two internal café staff, and two customers, selected through source triangulation. The findings show that the experience of inclusive communication is formed through three themes, namely equality in communication, communication adaptation, and social stigma, while the meaning-making of inclusive communication is formed through three themes, namely language barriers, equality as a shared value, and open interaction as a form of self-transformation. Communication equality is built through reciprocal effort between Deaf and hearing individuals, supported by adaptive media such as BISINDO sign language, visual cue cards, and text messaging. Social stigma toward the capability of Deaf workers in public service gradually diminishes through consistent direct interaction. This study concludes that inclusive communication at Kopi Tutur Rasa is not merely an exchange of messages between parties with different hearing abilities, but a continuous social process built through acceptance, adjustment, collaboration, and equal opportunity that transforms self-perception among Deaf baristas, coworkers, and customers alike.

Abstract

Advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the broadcasting industry have spurred various innovations in the news production process, one of which is the use of video generators. This technology enables the creation of news content featuring virtual presenters, which can improve production efficiency and accelerate the distribution of information. One media outlet in Indonesia that has implemented this innovation is the YouTube channel @tvOne.ai. Although it offers various benefits, the use of video generators has also sparked diverse perspectives regarding journalistic quality, the ethics of AI use, and the future of media professionals. This study aims to understand how broadcast media workers in Surabaya perceive the use of video generators on the YouTube channel @tvOne.ai. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with six informants who work as broadcast media professionals in Surabaya. The results show that media professionals view video generators as an innovation that can support the efficiency of news production; however, they are not yet capable of fully replacing the human role because they still require supervision, verification, and ethical considerations in journalistic practice. Differences in perception are also influenced by the experience, knowledge, and roles of each informant in the news production process.
