Abstract

This study explores the role of development communication in fostering stakeholder engagement in Arjowinangun Village’s batik tourism initiatives..Researchers aim to position the village as a central hub for batik tulis and establish Woro Srikandi as a leading brand in Pacitan Regency. Using a qualitative, phenomenological approach within development communication, the team gathered data through participant observation, FGDs, and analysis of key documents, including 2023 village data and the RPJMDes (2019-2023). Twelve key informants contributed insights, including village officials, community leaders, youth, artisans, business owners, and government representatives. The study identifies three significant outcomes: (1) the successful integration of batik tulis into the village’s development plan by the local government and Bumdes, (2) the establishment of Woro Srikandi batik tulis as an educational tourism destination, and (3) increased tourism awareness among residents, which has fostered the growth of a creative economy that supports the batik tulis tourism initiative. The findings highlight that development communication serves as a strategic tool for building inclusive discourse, enhancing participation, and cultivating community identity. These insights are crucial for promoting sustainable tourism and the creative economy in rural areas.

Abstract

The mishandled baggage incident at JAS Airport Services reflects the weakness of communication management within the complex and dynamic environment of ground handling operations. This study aims to analyze communication management strategies in responding to crises and evaluate their effectiveness in maintaining service quality. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation. The findings reveal that internal communication failures—ranging from the lack of enforcement of communication objectives to the absence of regular evaluations—were the root causes of the crisis. As a result, JAS not only suffered financial losses but also faced reputational risks with international airlines as key clients. Linked to the SERVQUAL model, the incident affected several dimensions, including reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy. This study highlights that communication must become an organizational culture, not merely an administrative procedure, in order to maintain service quality and prevent recurring crises.

Abstract

Abstract TikTok, with its short-form video format and For You Page system, enables the massive dissemination of content. This phenomenon opens up opportunities for digital marketing, while also presenting the challenge of capturing audience attention amid intense competition. Therefore, the construction of digital identity becomes highly important, especially for those who utilize TikTok as a marketing medium. Success in this regard can create an impression that distinguishes one from competitors. This study examines a businesswoman, Ci Mehong, who successfully creates a distinctive impression in her content through a blunt communication style and an authentic, even controversial persona. This builds a unique appeal that has led to her popularity. The aim of this research is to uncover the self-presentation constructed by Ci Mehong through the content uploaded on her business TikTok account, @pikbakinghouse. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, a constructivist paradigm, and a case study method, this analysis is based on the impression management theory by Erving Goffman and the self-presentation strategies by Edward Jones and Pittman, which consist of five typologies: ingratiation, intimidation, self-promotion, exemplification, and supplication. The object of this research is Ci Mehong’s communication style, appearance, and demeanor. Data were collected through documentation to obtain content transcripts and video excerpts. The researcher also conducted a literature review on relevant theories. The research findings show that Ci Mehong predominantly applies two main strategies: intimidation and exemplification. Nevertheless, the ingratiation strategy is also consistently found, although it does not constitute the dominant character presented. This study affirms that building a strong and distinctive impression through self-presentation is key to achieving marketing success on a dynamic platform like TikTok. Keywords:  Impression management; self-presentation; tiktok; ci mehong.   Abstrak TikTok dengan format video berdurasi pendek dan sistem For You Page memungkinkan penyebaran konten secara masif. Fenomena ini membuka peluang pemasaran digital, juga tantangan untuk menarik perhatian audiens di tengah persaingan konten yang ketat. Sehingga konstruksi identitas digital menjadi sangat penting, terutama bagi pihak yang memanfaatkan TikTok sebagai media pemasaran. Keberhasilan hal ini dapat membentuk kesan yang membedakan diri dari pesaingnya. Penelitian ini untuk mengkaji seorang pelaku usaha, Ci Mehong, yang berhasil membentuk kesan yang membedakan kontennya dari pesaing dengan gaya komunikasi yang frontal dan persona yang otentik bahkan kontroversial. Hal ini membangun keunikan yang membawanya pada popularitas. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengungkap presentasi diri yang dibangun Ci Mehong melalui konten yang diunggah dalam akun  TikTok bisnisnya yaitu @pikbakinghouse. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif, paradigma konstruktivis, serta metode studi kasus, analisis penelitian ini didasarkan pada teori manajemen impresi oleh Erving Goffman dan strategi presentasi diri dari Edward Jones dan Pittman, yang terdiri dari lima tipologi: ingratiation, intimidation, self-promotion, exemplification, dan supplication. Objek penelitian ini adalah gaya komunikasi, penampilan, dan pembawaan diri Ci Mehong. Data dikumpulkan melalui dokumentasi untuk memperoleh transkrip dan cuplikan video konten. Peneliti juga melakukan studi pustaka mengenai teori relevan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Ci Mehong secara dominan menerapkan dua strategi utama yaitu intimidation dan exemplification. Meskipun demikian, strategi ingratiation juga turut ditemukan secara konsisten. Namun, tidak menjadi karakter utama yang ditonjolkan. Penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa membangun kesan yang kuat dan khas melalui presentasi diri merupakan kunci meraih keberhasilan pemasaran di platform TikTok yang dinamis. Abstract

ABSTRACTNowadays, we live in the new global economy. Global brand represent a huge portion of our social identity and value. Consumer is the object of entertainment industry. Culture industry has taken over mainstream lifestyle. Global company using mass media (art, advertising, film, radio, television) as their main tool to spread consumptive lifestyle in all over the world. Through advertising and pop culture, consumer feel compelled to buy and use the products even though they see through mass media. Individually or socially, we are part of commercialism culture structure. Horkheimer and Adorno in their book „Dialectic of Enlightenment‟ develop culture industry concept. Frankfurt School point similarities between industrial and cultural production. Frankfurt School describe the blend between mass culture, advertising and consumption in consumer society. Abstract

The term toxic parents is being discussed lately because many Indonesian parents are learning to be better mothers and fathers by avoiding their parent’s mistakes. Toxic parents are parents who have negative parenting patterns that are consistently and dominant in their children's lives, including abuse, violence, and humiliation that can cause trauma, mental damage, and harm the child in the long term. Considering that many young people feel related to the issue of toxic parents, the podcast Curhat Babu tries to raise this issue. This study aims to find out how early adults accept toxic parents on the episode of Curhat Babu podcast “Bisakah Kita Mengubah Orang Tua Kita?”. This study uses descriptive qualitative method. Data collection techniques used are in-depth interviews and documentation. This study uses a reception analysis of Stuart Hall's Encoding-Decoding model which divides the audience's meaning into three positions: dominant-hegemonic, negotiated, and opposition. The results showed that the reception of the informants varied, but tended to be in a dominant position, where the audience accepted the dominant meaning in the podcast as whole which states that children cannot demand to change parents so the control is on themselves to break the toxic parent’s chain. Life experience, knowledge, and religion factors influence the various meanings and receptions of the informants.

Abstract

Purpose: Stunting is a problem that currently requires special attention in Indonesia. The stunting rate in 2022 will drop to 21.6%, and for the future, the government has set a target of up to 14% in 2024. Rapid technological developments and freedom of expression on the internet produce review text data that can be analyzed for evaluation. This study analyzes the text data of Twitter users' reviews on stunting. The method used is a text-mining approach and topic modeling based on Latent Dirichlet Allocation.Design/methodology/approach: The methodology used in this study is Latent Dirichlet Allocation. The data was collected from twitter with the keyword 'stunting'. After, the data was cleaned and then modeled using the Latent Dirichlet Allocation.Findings/results: The results show that negative sentiment dominates by 60.6%, positive sentiment by 31.5%, and neutral by 7.9%. In addition, this research shows that 'children', 'decrease', 'number', 'prevention', and 'nutrition' are among the words that often appear on stunting.Originality/value/state of the art: This study uses the keyword stunting and analyzes it. Social media analytics show that the people of Indonesia are primarily aware of stunting. Also, the Latent Dirichlet Analysis can be used to create the model.

Abstract

This study aims to find out about the facts, causes and impacts of the phubbing phenomenon on adolescents in the cities of Surabaya and Jakarta. This type of research used a qualitative research method with a phenomenological study. The data needed in this study is qualitative data as primary data in the form of images, words and not numbers in a discourse about the phenomenon of phubbing as a degradation of social relations as a result of social media. Based on the results of the study, it was found that 1) Teenagers in the cities of Surabaya and Jakarta have a fairly high intensity of using cellphones with a number of more than 5 hours per day which on average starts when they are students in elementary school; 2) The phenomenon of phubbing carried out by teenagers in the cities of Surabaya and Jakarta is caused by excessive anxiety that information on smartphones will be missed so that they check regularly. In addition, they are also sometimes not aware of their phubbing behavior because they focus on smartphones whether they are used to play games or play social media; 3) The bad impact they receive when doing phubbing activities is reducing the quality of face-to-face communication and also disrupting some of the effectiveness of the activities they are doing.

Abstract

Media sosial menjadi wadah untuk melakukan komunikasi dengan cakupan yang luas. Media sosial juga tak jarang digunakan sebagai media untuk menyuarakan pendapat atau aspirasi. Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa Universitas Indonesia (BEM UI) sering kali membagikan informasi dan menyuarakan kritik terhadap isu-isu sosial, pendidikan, lingkungan, hingga politik. Melalui akun media sosial Tiktoknya @bem.ui menyuarakan kritiknya kepada Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Republik Indonesia (DPR RI) atas pengesahan Peraturan Pemerintah Pengganti Undang-Undang (Perppu) tentang Cipta Kerja. Untuk mengetahui resepsi khalayak maka digunakan metode analisis resepsi Stuart Hall. Teori ini menganalisis resepsi khalayak menjadi tiga posisi yaitu dominant hegemonic position, negotiated position, oppositional position. Hasil Penelitian menunjukan ketiga posisi khalayak tersebut. Terdapat tiga informan berada pada dominant hegemonic position, dua orang pada posisi negotiated position, dan dua orang pada oppositional position. Informan yang berada pada posisi dominan menerima dan mendukung secara keseluruhan isi pesan yang disampaikan BEM UI karena kritik tersebut menyuarakan suara rakyat. Sedangkan informan pada posisi negosiasi setuju dengan kritik terhadap pengesahan Perppu, namun menolak ilustrasi yang ditampilkan. Informan dengan posisi oposisi menolak keseluruhan isi kritik karena tidak fokus mengkritik Perppu Cipta Kerja.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis resepsi penonton dalam film “Ice Cold: Murder, Coffee and Jessica Wongso”. Metode penelitian menggunakan metode pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif menggunakan paradigma konstruktivis melalui pengumpulan data berupa wawancara mendalam, dokumentasi, dan studi literatur. Fokus penelitian ini menggunakan analisis teori resepsi Stuart Hall yang meliputi dominant hegemonic, negotiated position dan oppositional position. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa resepsi film “Ice Cold: Murder, Coffee and Jessica Wongso” berbeda-beda di antara para informan memaknai film sesuai kemampuan, pengalaman pribadi, dan beragam pembeda latar belakang masing-masing individu yang diproduksi berulang pada kehidupan sehari-hari, ataupun frame of reference (FOR) dan field of experience (FOE). Dari keenam informan terbagi menjadi 2 informan berada dalam posisi dominant hegemonic position, 2 informan dikategorikan negotiated reading, dan 2 informan dalam kategori oppositional reading. Film ini memberikan sudut pandang yang berbeda dari versi resmi yang disampaikan kepolisian dan pengadilan. Selain itu, juga menggugah penonton untuk berpikir kritis dan skeptis serta menyadari adanya kemungkinan kesalahan hukum dan manipulasi media saat memberitakan peristiwa kasus kopi sianida

Abstract

Kehadiran internet yang berada ditengah-tengah masyarakat dengan adanya sosial media yang dapat menghubungkan individu dengan individu yang lainnya walau dengan jarak yang sangat jauh. Kemudahan dalam berkomuniasi memberikan manfaat bagi masyarakat dunia untuk melakukan suatu hal yang positif atau negatif. Penelitian ini akan membahas mengenai fenomena NGL Link yang sedang ramai digunakan oleh para remaja aktif yang menggunakan sosial media. NGL link dinilai sebagai salah satu platform anonimitas yang bisa digunakan oleh remaja untuk mengirimkan pesan tanpa adanya identitas dan dapat di respon sesuai keinginan pemiliki link. Hal ini relevan dengan Teori Pengelolaan Kesan milik Erving Goffman dan memiliki temuan dimana NGL Link termasuk kategori anonimitas milik Pfitzmann Hansenn yaitu unlinkability yaitu identitas privasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitstif dengan menggunakan pendekatan fenomenologi. Dari penelitian ini didapatkan melalui In depth Interview dengan hasil yang menjelaskan bahwa remaja menggunakan NGL Link sebagai platform aktualisasi diri dan nyaman dengan adanya identitas anonim.
