Abstract

Because the Padjadjaran University Faculty of Agriculture Library has so many scholarly books, there is a mountain of accumulation inside of it. Science work is damp, moldy, and dirty. Furthermore, it is very challenging to find scientific articles later due to the mountains of them. The University of Padjadjaran Library's digitalization initiatives are predicated on this understanding. Examining the process of digitizing historical scientific articles (published prior to 2016) in the University of Padjadjaran's Faculty of Agriculture Library is the aim of this study. The research methodology used is a case study methodology using a qualitative approach. In order to gather data, observations and interviews are conducted. Interviews were conducted with the coordinator of digitization activities at the Library of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Padjadjaran, digitization staff, and students who had done digitalization internships. Data analysis uses data reduction techniques, data presentation, and verification. The study's findings indicated that this digitizing process had previously been done, halted, and then continued till the present. The first step involves scanning; the second involves editing the results of the scanning process, such as adding a watermark or a password, but this step has not yet been completed; the three uploading procedures are uploaded to the Unpad Faculty of Agriculture Library's Google Drive. The last phase involves scanning and destroying the physical scientific works; nevertheless, official protocols have not been followed in this process. The study's findings demonstrate that while the digitization efforts undertaken are generally excellent, crucial information pertaining to particular SOPs at every stage of the process is still lacking.

Abstract

Indonesia has a diverse cultural heritage, including the Baso Culture in Coastal Sibolga, North Sumatra. This culture, orally passed down since ancient times, is at risk of being lost due to minimal documentation. Baso reflects close relationships, especially with blood relatives. The family system of the Sibolga Coastal ethnicity follows the paternal lineage, and Baso terms are adapted to the Coastal Language influenced by Minang, Malay, and Batak languages. This research aims to document the Baso Culture of the Sibolga Coastal ethnicity, which currently has minimal information. The study uses library science with a focus on cultural documentation. The methods employed are action research and Participatory Action Research (PAR), with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and document analysis. The research involves observations to study social behavior and meaning, interviews to deepen information, and data analysis based on references to strengthen the received information. YFKK (Yayasan Forum Komunitas Kreatif) Sibolga Tapanuli Tengah and local cultural experts are involved in the research as part of the PAR approach. The results show that Baso Culture is a way of speaking that reflects the closeness of relationships and a person's position in kinship. The researchers categorized the variations of greetings in Baso into six categories: nuclear family, paternal family, maternal family, male in-laws, female in-laws, and general greetings. Baso Culture is still practiced by the Sibolga Coastal community, but it needs preservation. Preservation efforts are made by documenting it as Instagram content through the accounts of Yayasan Forum Komunitas Kreatif (@tutur.runduk) and the researcher (@lai_bookshelf). This documentation is expected to enrich information and support cultural learning for future generations.

Abstract

This study examines the information-seeking behavior related to mining and cryptocurrency exhibited by cryptocurrency miners in the Facebook group Miner Indonesia. The research aims to investigate the information-seeking behavior concerning mining and cryptocurrency among cryptocurrency miners within the Facebook group Miner Indonesia. The study employs a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and literature review. The research model utilizes David Ellis's model, which comprises six stages: starting, chaining, browsing, differentiating, monitoring, and extracting. Four members of the Facebook group Miner Indonesia serve as informants for this study. The results indicate that during the starting phase, informants begin to comprehend the information they require regarding mining and cryptocurrency. In the chaining phase, informants conduct more in-depth searches to fulfill their remaining information needs. During the browsing stage, informants utilize internet resources such as Google, YouTube, Facebook, and Reddit to seek necessary information. In the differentiating phase, informants compare information obtained from Facebook with other information sources. The monitoring stage involves informants regularly observing group posts. In the extracting phase, informants apply the acquired information by implementing it on their mining equipment. In conclusion, the researcher found that all four informants engaged in the six stages of information-seeking behavior before obtaining the required information.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of disaster education and social media usage on disaster preparedness in coastal communities, focusing on Masawah Village in the Cimerak District, Pangandaran Regency. The research was conducted using a quantitative survey method with data collected from a sample of 100 respondents selected through probability sampling with a cluster sampling approach. Data were analysed using Partial Least Squares (PLS) with SmartPLS 3.0 software. The findings reveal that both disaster education and social media usage significantly influence individual intentions and actual disaster preparedness. Additionally, the mediating role of intention is identified, highlighting its importance in linking disaster education and social media usage to preparedness. These results suggest that disaster education should incorporate practical training and community participation, while social media campaigns should leverage popular platforms like WhatsApp and TikTok to engage wider audiences effectively. This study contributes to the literature by integrating the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) to explore the mediating effects of intention in disaster preparedness. It offers practical implications for policymakers and disaster management organisations to enhance community readiness. The originality of this research lies in its focus on a coastal community and its use of TPB as a theoretical framework, addressing gaps in previous studies that have not thoroughly investigated the role of social media in disaster preparedness.

Abstract

This study aims to discover how Javanese speech levels are inherited and learned by teenagers in Kotabaru, Yogyakarta, as well as the role of families and schools in internalizing this cultural heritage. The study also investigates how teenagers in Yogyakarta use Javanese as a marker of their cultural identity. The Javanese language is used in daily interaction and communication by native Javanese speakers in Central Java, East Java, and Yogyakarta. This article used a qualitative method with an ethnography of communication approach. The authors collected data by conducting field observations and interviewing teenagers in Kotabaru as informants. This study found that the role of teachers at school is more dominant in the inheritance and understanding of Javanese speech levels to teenagers compared to the role of parents at home. The knowledge and skills of the Javanese speech level of teenagers in Yogyakarta mostly use “ngoko” Javanese in daily communication with people in the family and neighborhood. Despite experiencing difficulties in learning and using the Javanese speech level, teenagers in Yogyakarta still consider the Javanese speech level as a form of their cultural identity as Javanese. The process of inheritance and internalization of the Javanese language requires the involvement of family and community, in addition to schools, in shaping the significance of the Javanese language as a cultural identity.

Abstract

Information need is a cognitive condition where individuals seek relevant information to support decision-making and fulfill specific needs. Understanding information needs is crucial for comprehending information-seeking and use behaviors, especially in the increasingly complex digital age. This study aims to map the development of publications related to information needs, identify research trends and relationships between scientific concepts, as well as author collaboration networks (co-authorship) and keywords. This mapping is beneficial for academics, policymakers, and information professionals. This quantitative descriptive study employed a bibliometric approach, analyzing 3,941 English-language documents indexed in Scopus from 2014 to 2024, using the keyword "information needs." Results indicate a publication increase until 2021, followed by a decline, potentially linked to research focus shifts and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. The journal "Library Philosophy and Practice" affirms its significant role in academic discourse. Author collaboration networks demonstrate intense cooperation among researchers from various institutions and countries. Research focuses on information needs, decision-making, and information retrieval, with a significant response to global issues. Keyword visualization reveals a close relationship between information needs, technology, and human behavior. This study concludes that information need is a multidimensional topic with significant contributions across disciplines, offering opportunities for further research, particularly in health information literacy.

Abstract

This study explored the role of government to encourage and provide a model of economic growth, including in the field of micro, small, and medium enterprises. Among these was the digital media industry. It could be a potential that can provide public welfare. The questions to be answered here were about how to model a development of community-based digital media industry in Cirebon City, West Java; whether the government could bring people to the digital media industry in order to foster the creative economy of society; and how the community appreciated and became a part of the digital media industry. With descriptive and qualitative methods, this study found that the government had sufficiently active roles in the development of the digital media industry in the community. The community itself had already been opened in responding to the government’s programs and the development of contemporary technology in the field of selling goods and services. Still, there were obstacles that might be continued to be refined for the success of the community’s digital media industry.

Abstract

The anti-hoax social movement was initiated online in Indonesia by relying on the netizens' togetherness to fight the spread of hoaxes in a virtual world by identifying and reporting hoaxes and promoting accurate information and critical thinking skills. Digital scoping is carried out by reporting hoaxes that are spread on social media, while counter-narrative actions take the form of checking facts and disseminating disclaimers. The level of participation of netizens in the anti-hoax movement is relatively high. They voluntarily participate in various anti-hoax campaigns. Teachers in Bandung high schools have been allowed to pick and implement proposals and solutions based on their students' needs and requirements for digital literacy. This technique has effectively surmounted the barriers to students' digital literacy abilities, preventing them from causing problems that students, in particular, feel during studying. As a result, kids can select which news can be believed and which is a scam. The strategy used in education to address students' digital literacy skills has increased students' digital literacy skills, allowing them to learn more quickly and accurately. Teachers can also help pupils develop their digital literacy skills so that other students are not left behind in understanding learning material.
