Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Background: As a disaster-prone nation, Indonesia requires robust disaster information literacy. Generation Z, as active social media users, demonstrates distinct patterns of selective exposure to earthquake information on Instagram, influenced by psychological needs, message relevance, and social context.Purpose: This study aims to analyze the psychological factors, message features, and social contexts that influence Generation Z’s selective exposure to local earthquake information on Instagram within the framework of disaster information literacy. Methods: Utilizing a qualitative case study approach centered on the Sumedang earthquake (June 31, 2025–November 5, 2025), this research employed in-depth interviews with six informants, focus group discussions, and visual discourse analysis of 45 posts from local Instagram accounts (@radarsumedang, @inimahsumedang, @tahuekspress, and @sumedangekspresnews). Interviews lasted 45-60 minutes each and were analyzed using NVivo 12 software. Results: Selective exposure is driven by trust, affective needs, and practical motivations. Message features—specifically Instagram Stories for rapid updates, feed posts for in-depth narratives, and infographics for clarity—play a critical role. Furthermore, the social context, including peer recommendations, comment-based verification, and the editorial strategies of local media, significantly shapes engagement. Generation Z demonstrates situational, heterogeneous, and dialogic interaction patterns with disaster information, balancing cognitive needs for accuracy with affective needs for emotional reassurance. Conclusions: Disaster information literacy for Generation Z requires a hybrid strategy that integrates speed, accuracy, empathy, and interactivity to strengthen community preparedness and resilience. This study extends Selective Exposure Theory by identifying "emotional certainty" as a novel motivation, enriches Uses and Gratifications Theory through situational gratifications, and advances Situational Crisis Communication Theory by emphasizing collective social validation in social media-based disaster contexts.

Abstract

Tourism sector growth in Bandung City has shown significant improvement in the post-pandemic period, accompanied by increasing tourist awareness of sustainability issues. Despite this trend, environmentally friendly practices are not yet consistently implemented across all hotels. This study aims to analyze the influence of environmental certification and waste management practices on tourists’ preferences for green hotels in Bandung City. A mixed-methods approach was employed using surveys of 25 tourists who had stayed at green hotels. Quantitative data were analyzed using multiple linear regression, and qualitative data through thematic analysis. The results indicate that both environmental certification and waste management practices positively influence tourists’ preferences. Certifications such as CHSE, Green Globe, and ISO 14001 enhance tourists’ trust in a hotel’s commitment to sustainability, while concrete practices, including recycling programs, reduction of single-use plastics, and food donation initiatives, strengthen perceptions of environmental responsibility. However, the limited sample size (N = 25) reduces the statistical power and external validity of the quantitative findings, positioning the results as exploratory rather than conclusive. Nonetheless, the qualitative findings provide valuable insights, revealing that tourists are willing to pay a premium, demonstrate loyalty, and recommend green hotels that align with their environmentally conscious lifestyles. These findings emphasize the importance for hotels not only to obtain environmental certification but also to implement tangible ecological practices that deliver measurable environmental benefits. Overall, this study contributes empirical evidence on how environmental initiatives can simultaneously enhance tourist engagement and support sustainable tourism development, reinforcing the role of hotels as both economic actors and agents of environmental stewardship.

Abstract

Abstract

The Free Nutritious Meals Program (MBG) has sparked intense public debate in Indonesia, particularly concerning food safety and public trust. While discussion on text-based platforms are largely dominated by critical and deliberative discourse, less attention has been given to how public responses emerge when the same policy is presented through emotive, music-based content on entertainment oriented platforms. This study aims to investigate how MBG is received when communicated through jingle within TikTok space. Using sentiment analysis as a tool to examine the pattern of audience response. The findings reveal a heterogeneous sentiment expression. Drawing on Arousal Theory and platform affordance perspectives, this study addresses platform affordance shape how the community interact within the space itself. TikTok facilitates policy communication as performative and emotional engagement, where visible positivity reflects platform shaped affective participation rather than policy approval.

Abstract

Purpose: Tsunami often occurs in Ambon–Maluku so that people know its characteristics. Ambonese share knowledge about it with their social environment through songs. The songs that tell the story are Air Turun Naik di Hutumuri (Water Recedes and Gushes into the Air in Hutumuri) and Banjir Galala (Flood in Galala). This study aimed to explore the Ambonese indigenous knowledge about the tsunami implied in the songs. Method: This research is qualitative with a Content-Driven Document Analysis approach. Result and Discussion: The results showed that the themes of indigenous knowledge about the tsunami in Ambon were signs of nature, the way to self-rescue, and post-disaster situations. The sub-themes of natural signs were bamboo floating in the sea, low tide, and flocks of Talang birds flying around the village. The sub-theme of self-rescue was running to the mountains. The sub-themes of the post-disaster situation described washed away houses, flooding, and disappearing villages. Implication: The findings showed that people also knew other tsunami characteristics: earthquakes, rumbling sounds on the hills, giant black and white waves, loose beach sand, thousands of fish and rocks stranded in the village. Another finding was that the Maluku people's culture carried out activities to manage indigenous knowledge through songs and singing. In conclusion, the songs contain local wisdom about tsunami characteristics (before, during, and after the disaster) and self-rescue.

Abstract

This study delves into the intricate relationship between employee behavior and the efficacy of organizational changes within Balai Besar Bahan dan Barang Teknik, under the Indonesian Ministry of Industry. Employing a quantitative methodology, the research engaged with 32 dedicated employees at Balai Besar Bahan dan Barang Teknik, Ministry of Industry, uncovering valuable insights. These insights illuminate the critical role of employee behavior in shaping the brand's resonance and organizational transformation. The study reveals a web of correlations: a positive link between employee voice and change effectiveness, a negative association between employee exits and performance, an adverse connection between neglect and job satisfaction, and a robust bond between employee loyalty and resilience. These findings signify that within the Balai Besar Bahan dan Barang Teknik narrative, the employees who voice their concerns are more likely to perceive organizational changes as effective, bolstering brand awareness. Conversely, employees contemplating an exit demonstrate diminished performance, underscoring the pivotal role of employee engagement in upholding the brand's strength. Employee neglect points to a potential dent in job satisfaction, an aspect integral to brand loyalty. Moreover, unwavering employee loyalty is a cornerstone for resilience in the face of change, vital for brand continuity and brand awareness. In the larger context, these findings hold profound implications for policymakers and practitioners engaged in the realm of organizational change. The insights gleaned provide the foundation for strategic policies that encourage employee voice and reinforce brand loyalty, resulting in increased brand awareness. Practitioners can leverage these insights to craft change management strategies that dismantle resistance, ensuring successful change implementation and further enhancing brand recognition.
