Abstract

Legundi (Vitex trifolia) has been reported to exhibit anti-inflammatory activity; however, the specific bioactive compounds responsible for this effect remain unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the anti-inflammatory potential of bioactive compounds from V. trifolia against cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2; PDB ID: 5KIR) using an in silico molecular docking approach, along with the analysis of their pharmacokinetic and toxicity profiles. The results showed that persicogenin exhibited the lowest binding affinity of −9.2 kcal/mol and formed hydrogen bonds with key amino acid residues, namely THR 212, HIS 207, and TYR 385. ADMET prediction results indicated that persicogenin met the drug-likeness criteria for an oral drug candidate, demonstrated good intestinal absorption (HIA: 92.29%), high membrane permeability (Caco-2 permeability > 0.9), low volume of distribution (VDss < 0.45), inhibitory activity against CYP2C19 and CYP3A4, and no hepatotoxic potential. These findings suggest that persicogenin may serve as an anti-inflammatory agent.

Abstract

Alopecia is a disorder of the hair follicles that causes hair loss, either in limited areas or throughout the entire body. This study aims to evaluate the potential and molecular interactions of compounds found in the Rampai plant (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.). The Rampai plant is known to contain various secondary metabolites such as alkaloids, flavonoids, arbutin, amygdalin, and pectin, which have the potential to be developed as antialopecia drug candidates through an in-silico approach to androgen receptors (PDB ID: 4K7A) and ADME-Tox profile predictions. The in-silico approach was conducted using the molecular docking method to predict the interaction between the active compounds from the Rampai plant and the androgen receptor using Autodock Tools 1.5.7 and Vina software, while the ADME-Tox analysis was conducted through the pkCSM platform. The molecular docking results showed that the reference ligand (Minoxidil) had an affinity energy of −7.353 kcal/mol, while the test compound with the best affinity was isorhamnetin with a value of −8.398 kcal/mol, which was lower (more stable) than Minoxidil. In addition, the ADME-Tox prediction results for isorhamnetin show favorable pharmacokinetic characteristics, especially in terms of skin permeability, absorption and distribution. Thus, isorhamnetin has the potential as an androgen receptor antagonist and a role in the development of therapies for alopecia.

Abstract

Negligence in pharmaceutical services is a multifaceted issue that significantly impacts patient safety, the quality of healthcare delivery, and the professional reputation of pharmacists in Indonesia. Such negligence can occur at various stages of pharmaceutical services, including prescribing, dispensing, storage, and administration of medication to patients. The causes of negligence are diverse, encompassing excessive workload, inadequate understanding and application of professional ethical codes, ineffective communication between pharmacists and other healthcare professionals, and suboptimal supervisory and audit systems. This study aims to analyze the ethical and professional implications of negligence in pharmaceutical services and to identify preventive efforts that can improve the quality of pharmaceutical services. This study employs a library research method with a qualitative descriptive approach, thoroughly reviewing scientific literature indexed in Sinta and other reputable academic sources to analyze the ethical and professional implications of negligence in pharmaceutical services. Findings reveal that negligence not only violates core professional ethical principles such as beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice but also exposes pharmacists to serious legal and disciplinary sanctions. Furthermore, negligence leads to long-term negative consequences, including diminished public trust in pharmaceutical services and the broader healthcare system, ultimately hindering national efforts to improve healthcare quality. Therefore, this study recommends continuous professional ethics training, strengthening of both internal and external supervisory mechanisms, and the innovative use of information technology to minimize negligence risks in pharmaceutical practice. The implementation of these measures is expected to enhance pharmaceutical service quality, uphold the integrity and dignity of the pharmacist profession, and provide optimal patient protection in Indonesia.

Abstract

Free radicals are reactive molecules that contribute to oxidative stress, triggering cellular damage and leading to degenerative diseases such as cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. Antioxidants are required to neutralize free radicals and protect the body from oxidative damage. The leaves of Ipomoea pes-caprae (L.) R. Br. contain secondary metabolites, such as flavonoids and phenolics, which have potential antioxidant activity. This article aims to analyze the antioxidant activity of Ipomoea pes-caprae leaf extract using the DPPH method. The study employed a literature review approach using Google Scholar with specific keywords and 13 articles met the inclusion criteria with a  publication range from 2015 to 2025. The findings indicate that the extraction method and type of solvent significantly affect the effectiveness of antioxidant activity. Maceration and Soxhlet extraction methods were effective in isolating active compounds, particularly flavonoids and phenolics, while polar solvents such as ethanol and methanol produced better results compared to non-polar solvents. Antioxidant strength, determined by IC50 values, ranged from very strong to very weak. Therefore, it can be concluded that selecting the appropriate extraction method and solvent is crucial to maximizing the antioxidant potential of Ipomoea pes-caprae leaves as a natural antioxidant source for health and pharmaceutical applications.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease with a significantly increasing global prevalence, especially in developing countries. Current treatments use synthetic antidiabetic drugs that are generally expensive and have various side effects. This study aims to examine the potential of mango plants (Mangifera spp.) as antidiabetic agents through a systematic literature review. Literature searches were conducted through the electronic databases PubMed and Google Scholar using the keywords "Mangifera/mango" and "antidiabetic". From the search results, 25 relevant articles were obtained for further review, consisting of 15 articles on in vitro testing and 10 articles on in vivo testing. The search results identified 17 mango plant variants worldwide that have been shown to have antidiabetic activity. Each mango species has unique characteristics and different nutritional content and bioactive compounds. Various parts of the mango plant, including leaves, fruits, seeds, and bark, contain bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and terpenoids. These compounds contribute to antidiabetic activity through several mechanisms, namely inhibition of α-glucosidase and α-amylase enzymes, increased insulin sensitivity, and reduced blood glucose levels. Mango plant secondary metabolites are not only effective, but also have the potential to be an alternative antidiabetic treatment that is more affordable and safe compared to synthetic drugs. It can be concluded that Mangifera spp. has great potential to be developed as an innovative diabetes therapy. Further research through clinical trials is needed to confirm its effectiveness as an antidiabetic agent.
