Abstract

Structuralism has its methodological root in the structural linguistics of Ferdinand de Saussure, whose synchronic study of language systems stands in contrast to the diachronic and comparative studies of nineteenth-century philology. One of his contributions is his opinion that language acquires meaning along two axes of relationships: syntagmatic and paradigmatic. As a fundamental thought, the concept has deep influences that were firstly felt by the Russian formalist, then by other structuralists such as Roland Barthes as shown in his structural analysis and Levi-Strauss in his paradigmatic analysis. Levi-Strauss applied his paradigmatic analysis in his two short articles, “The Structural Study of Myth” and “The Story of Asdiwal”. In the first article Strauss presented the complete model of deep-structural analysis to make a brief examination of the Oedipus myth. Based on structural analysis of Levi-Strauss and Roland Barthes, this article tries to analyze the chapter 12 (Yûsuf) of Holy Quran.

Abstract

This article is intended to provide philosophical insight of the importance of the educational concept based on social problems. Social problems like poverty, unemployment, moral deterioration, corruption, social violence, and others arise because there is malfunction of education or education institutions in Indonesia in solving those problems. Recently the developing character education must be accompanied by the spirit of progressivism and reconstructive education philosophy. In the west, both of the philosophical ideologies are designed to create progress and social integrity. Education curriculum is consciously directed to deal with the gap and the social life problem, both in relations between the community and the natural environment and the relationship between societies in politics, economic, and socio-cultural. If the concept of education in Indonesia is not built and directed to deal with social life in which taking part in solving the recent social problem widely, the education will only produce graduates who do not care for various social problems faced by the community and the country. Furthermore, the development of science, technology, and information in the globalization era not only give the advantage and efficiency but also have a negative impact on people’s behavior individually or in groups, and all of them must be anticipated and coped by education.

Abstract

Hermeneutics is an art of interpretation or a philosophical study of understanding. It has widerrange of understanding; not only canonical texts, but also all texts, from teaching manuals toliterary classics. Human acts and products, such as the act of teaching and the institution ofschool or university are interpreted. Here, we can see that the formulation of vision, mission, and the goal of any school and university is a result of interpretation or dialogue. Not only in thiseducational aspect hermeneutics plays its role, but also in teaching-learning aspect. Accordingto hermeneutics, teaching is an art, not a science or technology. Teaching-learning processis like a dialogue or game in which participants are carried by something larger than themselvestoward an insight they have not anticipated. Dialogue presupposes a subject and adesire to understand it. Openness on both sides is essential. No one must come with his mindmade up. In a give and take, each participant arrives at a new understanding. Finally, genuinedialogue makes fusion of each participant’s mental horizon. Keywords: hermeneutics, interpretation, philosophy, understanding, education.

Islam is merely claimed as "violence religion". It may be true or false, or even it is just a "mythology". But It must be understood that, in fact, in the history of Islam, some kinds of violence have risen because of action of individual or group of Moslem by the name of Islamic religion. Beginning from scripturalism, from Qoran and Sunnah, the texts was understood and interpreted for the sake of action, created an aqidah and syari'ah, than created an attitude and behavior of life of Moslem; and because of it's model of interpretation that faced to action and confronted with current condition and development of modern society in various aspects: political, social, cultural, and economical aspect, so militant Moslem groups rose against the unjustice actions, not only faced to another group with different religion but also to another Moslem group.

Abstract

There are several problems regarding textbooks in Indonesia, especially Arabic textbooks. First, the procurement stage, such as the process of writing, obtaining texts, evaluating, and publishing. Second, the distribution stage such as access to textbooks, and purchasing power of textbooks. Third, the stage of the use of books which covers the confusion of teachers in using textbooks and the period of use of school books. The aspects of the evaluation of textbooks will be important in the future. Therefore, this research aims to construct instrumental assessment of arabic teaching books from national and international perspectives. This is important to do as an effort to obtain quality Arabic textbooks with international insight. This research uses a Research and Development (R & D) approach and content analysis. The results of this study show that the Arabic textbook assessment instrument made by the National Education Standards Agency (BSNP) and the American Council on Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) is still lacking because it does not accommodate all the points and basic elements contained in a Arabic textbooks as a Foreign language. So, the construction of a comprehensive integrated integrative Arabic textbook assessment instrument is absolutely necessary in order to obtain good and quality Arabic textbooks.

Abstract

The study of school textbooks is interesting to examine comprehensively and in-depth. The issues with textbooks can be mapped into three crucial problems: First, issues related to the preparation and assessment phase. Second, issues related to the distribution of books, including accessibility and the purchasing power of textbooks. Third, problems related to the usage of books. This research focuses on developing a comprehensive assessment instrument for Arabic language textbooks. The researcher conducted research and development using the ADDIE model, which was developed from the instruments of the National Education Standards Agency (BSNP), the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), and the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), as well as expert opinions. The results of this research and development show: First, the development of a comprehensive assessment instrument for Arabic language textbooks, consisting of four components: appearance, content, language, and presentation or teaching. Each component has indicators and sub-assessment items, totaling 50 assessment items. Second, the instrument was tested on Arabic language textbooks published by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, with a resulting score of 77.48, indicating they are suitable with major revisions needed.

Abstract

This study examines Pondok Pesantren Wali Sanga Gunung Meja’s strategies to thrive within a Catholic-majority community in Ende, Nusa Tenggara Timur, emphasizing interfaith harmony and educational resilience. This study employs a qualitative case study approach to delve into the institution’s adaptive methods and contributions to communal harmony. It does so through semi-structured interviews, non-participant observations, and document analysis. Results highlight the institution’s ability to foster mutual respect and social cohesion through various programs grounded in its foundation of collaboration between Islamic and Catholic figures. The study identifies critical factors for its sustainability: fostering Silahturahmi (communication and friendship), collaboration with the Catholic community, and commitments to social-cultural integration, education, and self-reliance. These elements collectively enhance the Pesantren’s role in promoting religious understanding and community harmony. The findings suggest that Pesantren’s approach offers a model for navigating religious identity complexities and community integration. Limitations include the study’s focus on a single institution and reliance on qualitative data, pointing to the need for broader comparative research to generalize findings. The study underscores the potential of religious education in advancing social harmony, advocating for further exploration across diverse settings.
