Abstract

Rapid urbanization and land-use change in Indonesian cities have led to urban heat islands, exacerbating air pollution. This situation elevates sensible heat, thereby compromising human thermal comfort. Palu City, situated in Central Sulawesi Province, Indonesia, has experienced significant urban heat island effects in recent decades. To mitigate this issue, increased development of green open spaces is necessary. This study prioritizes urban forest development in urban areas using a spatial analysis approach. We employ a weighting and scoring system based on vegetation indices, land cover, and air temperature parameters. Our study identified three priority areas with total areas of approximately 6,741 ha, 2,746 ha, and 20,695 ha for priorities 1, 2, and 3, respectively. This study prioritizes areas with high temperatures, low vegetation cover, and bare land for urban forest development. To effectively implement the proposed urban forest development plan, this study also highlights recommendations to create a more sustainable, resilient, and livable urban environment. Abstract

Multifuel stove is an innovation of conventional stove that has the advantage of being able to use various types of fuel. In its operation, multifuel stove consists of many important components, one of which is the combustion tube. This study aims to find out the effect of variations in the diameter of the combustion tube on the characteristics of the flame and water temperature during the heating process. The method used in this study is a combination of experimental studies and literature studies. The variations in the diameter of the combustion tube tested were 4, 5, and 6 inches using used oil and kerosene as fuel. The test results showed that increasing the diameter of the combustion tube tended to accelerate the extinguishing of the fire, this was influenced by a phenomenon called the quenching effect. Meanwhile, the flame temperature tended to be lower with increasing tube diameter. The color of the flame and the temperature of the water were not too influenced by variations in tube diameter and type of fuel. The highest flame temperature was recorded on a 4-inch cylinder with used oil fuel, reaching 719.2 °C, while the longest flame duration was 16.92 minutes on a 4 -inch cylinder with used oil fuel. In conclusion, the performance of used oil can exceed that of kerosene.

Abstract

One of the uses of used oil is as fuel for multifuel stoves. A multifuel stove is a stove that has flexibility in its fuel selection. In the operation of a multifuel stove, the air supply plays an important role in the combustion process. This study discusses the influence of air velocity on fire characteristics and water temperature during the heating process. In this study, three variations of air velocity were used, namely 13 m/s, 12 m/s, and 11 m/s. Based on the tests that have been carried out, it was found that the speed of air blown into the combustion chamber can affect the temperature and duration of the flame. The faster the speed of air that is blown into the combustion chamber, the higher the temperature of the flame will be, but the faster the fire will be extinguished. This is because more oxygen is supplied into the combustion chamber, causing the combustion process to take place more quickly and intensely. Meanwhile, regarding the water heating time, the time required by the three variations of air speed to heat 0.5 kg of water to boiling is 1.5–2 minutes, which surpasses the performance of gas stoves and conventional electric stoves.

Abstract

Oil palm has the ability to sequester carbon dioxide stored as carbon stock. This study aimed to estimate carbon stock  in some age classes, to determine the relationship between Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and carbon stock, and to estimate the distribution of oil palm carbon stock in Landscape Sembilang Dangku. Estimation of carbon stock  were carried out at the non productive age plant phase namely <2 years, 2-3 years, and the productive plant age  phase namely 4-10 years and> 10 years. The carbon stock estimation used allometric equations. Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) /Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS)  was analyzed to determine NDVI.  Making a map of the classification of carbon stock distribution using Software QGIS Las Palmas 2.18.0. The results showed that the carbon stock in the age class <2 years was 9.50 ton C/ ha, the age class of 2-3 was 9.62 ton C/ha, the age of 4-10 was 28.23 ton C/ha and in the age class> 10 was 79.83 ton C/ha. The relation between NDVI with carbon stock had a strong correlation (r = 0.9972) with regression equation Y = 638.13x - 242.65.  Carbon stock distribution  was  based on percentage of area as follows: <15 ton C/ha covering an area of 26.52%, 15-25 ton C/ha covering an area of 5.29%, 26-70 ton C ha covering an area of 35.41%, and > 70 ton C/ha 32.78%. Keywords: age class, carbon stock, landscape, NDVI

Abstract

Purpose– This study aims to map the development trends and thematic patterns in Islamic investment literature and explore their potential implications for public sector investment policies in Indonesia. As the government increases its commitment to Islamic financial instruments—such as sukuk, waqf-linked investment, and halal project financing—this study offers evidence to align research trends with national policy priorities.Design/methods/approach– The study employs a bibliometric analysis using the Scopus database, focusing on Islamic investment-related publications from 2013 to 2023. Tools such as VOSviewer and Biblioshiny (R Studio) were used to visualize keyword co-occurrence, authorship networks, thematic evolution, and journal relevance.Findings– The bibliometric analysis identified a growing number of publications in the last five years, with dominant themes including sukuk issuance, Islamic portfolio optimization, halal investment behavior, and Sharia compliance. Most studies remain concentrated in academic-financial discourse, with limited connection to policy implementation or public governance perspectives. Few studies address Islamic investment within public sector contexts, especially in Southeast Asia.Research implications/limitations– While this study presents comprehensive mapping, it does not evaluate the quality or impact of policy outcomes associated with Islamic investment initiatives. Future studies are encouraged to connect bibliometric insights with public budgeting, Islamic infrastructure development, and fiscal planning in Muslim-majority countries.Originality/value– This research contributes by linking academic literature on Islamic investment with the broader agenda of public sector innovation and financial policy development. It highlights the need for inclusive and Sharia-based financial strategies in public administration and invites policymakers to engage with academic insights for better governance outcomes.

Abstract

Bamboo processing is one of the activities in the home industry in many rural areas. Currently, bamboo craftsmen in Indonesia still slice and chop bamboo manually. The process of slicing and chopping bamboo manually often faces problems, including poor production quality. Modifying the bamboo splitting machine by adding slicing and chopping functions aims to increase the production efficiency of bamboo processing for skewer production and make the machine more optimal and multifunctional. The modification of the bamboo splitting machine with additional functions as a slicing and chopping machine uses two blades, namely a slicing blade designed to thin the bamboo to 3-4 mm and a chopping blade to chop or split the bamboo into several small sticks with a square profile of 3-4 mm, and an input hopper that adjusts to the average width of the test material. The results of bamboo slicing using the machine obtained 2 to 3 slices that meet the desired size, and the rest are residual slices that do not meet the desired size from one bamboo split. The results of bamboo chopping using the machine obtained 3 to 4 chopped bamboo that meet the desired size, and a few residual chopped bamboo that do not meet the size and defective chopped bamboo due to the bamboo entering the input hopper in a tilted position. The production capacity of the bamboo slicer is 1,816 slices/hour, and the production capacity of the bamboo chopper is 7,513 sticks/hour.

Abstract

This research aims to create a model for predicting clean water need in the urban area Sentul City currently and next 30 (thirty years). To create the model, it is required data which are useful for forecasting the inhabitant number year to year. There are some general-used models for forecasting the inhabitant number, including to arithmatic, exponential, and least square method. The inhabitant number forecast in this research used an exponential method, as recommended in the Guidance of River Area Water Resource by Directorate General of Water Resource in 2001. The researcher used the software Stella 9.0.1 for simplifying the modeling process, projecting the inhabitant number, predicting the clean water need, and figuring the graphics. Besides this software, Excel programme was also used. According to data analysis result, the equation models to predict water need (m3/year) in Sentul City are stated as follows; for rural area inhabitants: YDn = 1 927 309 (1 + 0.0303)n; for urban area inhabitants: YKn = 1 808 940 + 217 248*n;  and for total inhabitants: YSCn = YDn + YKn.Keywords: inhabitant number, geomeric method, clean water need prediction

Abstract

Peatlands are characterized by the accumulation of decomposed plant remains, which result in an organic carbon content of approximately 16 percent and form a layer at least 40 cm thick. Peat ecosystems play a crucial role in supporting biodiversity conservation, maintaining water availability, and regulating the climate. However, human activities threaten these functions, especially during the dry season, which often leads to extensive fires. Post-fire succession is a natural process through which the land attempts to restore its original state. Monitoring succession after peatland fires can be conducted using satellite-based remote sensing technology, which provides spatiotemporal information. This study utilized a time series of three Landsat satellites, namely Landsat 5 (TM), Landsat 8 (OLI), and Landsat 9 (OLI2), to monitor succession in burnt peat areas on Bengkalis Island from 2000 onward. Additionally, hotspot data from FIRMS NASA  and MODIS were incorporated. The results showed a total of 3,689 hotspots recorded between 2005 and 2023. The confirmed land cover types in the succession area include swamps, water bodies, and oil palm plantations. The information from this research is expected to inform policymaking by the government or peatland area managers, and serve as a reference for further studies.
