Abstract

Long-wishkered catfish is an Indonesian native species that can be found in the regions of Sumatra, Java and Kalimantan in rivers and estuaries. This study is based on a literature review containing the characteristics and uses of the Mystus genus of long wishkers catfish in Indonesia which was published in 2013-2023. There are 11 species of Indonesia`s native species which are included in the Mystus genus, one of which is the long wishkers catfish. This fish has barbels, a smooth body without scales and has a patil on the back. This fish is a micro carnivorous fish or crustacivores. There are partial spawners with fecundity ranging from 3100-24459 eggs. Currently, long wishkes catfish is widely used to make shrimp paste, salted fish and fish meal.

Abstract

Poka Village, Ambon Bay Distric experiencing significant damage to mangrove ecosystems. There is garbage disposal around the beach of Poka Village. There is garbage disposal around the beach of Poka Village, this has an impact on the ecological and economic functions around the area. Therefore, it is necessary to assess the perception of the behavior of the people around the area and utilize the area. The researcher used 20 respondents as samples and conducted in October to November 2024 on Poka Beach using Random Sampling and using the Likert Scale. Respondents were dominated by women, productive age 45 years, predominantly bachelor degree, with income of IDR 3,000,000 – 4,000,000. Socio-economic characteristics illustrate that respondents live, sell and travel around the area. Respondent characteristics are seen from community perceptions of knowledge of the function of the mangrove ecosystem (3.58) including the strongly agree category, community perceptions of environmental conditions for the growth of the mangrove ecosystem (3.56) including the strongly agree category, community perceptions of the utilization of the mangrove ecosystem (3.35) including the agree. The development of science about public perception that results in environmental pollution to the mangrove ecosystem on Poka beach needs to be known in early countermeasures.

Abstract

Abstract

The coral reef ecosystem on Seureudong Island, Sawang Bau Village, Sawang District, South Aceh is very important for the surrounding ecosystem, with the fringing reef type, namely the shape of its growth around the island. This study aims to determine the current condition of coral cover and the types available on Seureudong Island. The method used is the Point Intercept Transect (PIT). The results showed that the forms of coral found at the study site were branching, digitate, encrusting, foliose, massive, mushroom, plates, and submassive. The percentage of the bottom substrate is dominated by hard coral (hard coral) at 45.3%, Dead Coral with Algae/DCA (37.11%), and (9.89%), rubble of 3.56%, rock (1.56%), algae turf (1.44%), macroalgae (1%) and dead coral (0.11%). At the study site, 25 genera were found with Porites (36%) as the most common genus found. At the research location, there are also genera with a total presence of less than 1%. These genera are Acanthastrea, Ctenactis, Favia, Favites, Fungia, Gardineroseris, Goniopora, Halimeda, Heliopora, Hydnophora, Leptastrea, Montastrea, Pavona, and Seriatopora. The quality of the waters at the research location still complies with the standards of coral life. The results of these observations must be carried out periodically so that they can always update the condition of the coral reefs on Seureudong Island

Abstract

Grouper is a type of fish that has economic value, thus encouraging fishermen to continue exploiting it regardless of its size. Total length research on three grouper species Plectropomus leopardus, Variola louti and Variola albimarginata was conducted in Simeulue Regency with the aim of analyzing frequency distribution. Data were collected from early January to early February 2024. The collected data were analyzed using Microsoft Excel, and displayed in graphical form. The results showed that the type of Plectropomus leopardus has a size between 16-64 cm, the largest number of sizes is 34-39 cm with a total of 122 individuals. Grouper Variola louti with a total length between 20-55 cm, size 28-31 cm is the largest total length size of 173 individuals. While grouper Variola albimarginata has a size between 16-58 cm, 298 individuals of which have a size of 26-30 cm. From this study, it can be concluded that the groupers recorded are predominantly female.

Abstract

The ability to adaptation  and change the behavior of fish is a physiological response that occurs naturally in fish in waters which is strongly influenced by aquatic environmental factors.   This research aimed to the  test  of adaptability and behavioral changed of fish as a resulted  of physiological responsed  to the changed in salinity. This research was carried out in March 2023 at the Environmental Productivity Laboratory, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Teuku Umar University. The research procedure was carried out by inserting 5 test animals (catfish and goldfish) into an aquarium filled with 10 liters of water. Table salt was added to each aquarium with salinity treatment, namely 5 ppt and 10 ppt gradually over 7 days. Based on the research resulted, it showed that catfish and goldfish had different responses to physiological and behavioral adaptations with different salinity treatments (5 ppt and 10 ppt). Giving 5 ppt salinity to the test animals (catfish and goldfish) the operculum movement at 20 minutes still looked normal, the operculum movement began to slowed down as time increasing to  25 minutes and further slowed down at 30 minutes. Treated with 10 ppt salinity in the test animals ( catfish and goldfish) showed unusual changes in physiological behavior with high leveled of stress. In the 5 ppt and 10 ppt treated  with added salinity on the second to seventh day the catfish experienced mortality with a survival rated of 60%, while in the 5 ppt and 10 ppt treated  with added salinity the goldfish on the first to the seventh day experienced mortality with a survival rated of 0%.
