Abstract

The research was aimed to evaluate the effect of biogas liquid waste as a fermentation starter of rice husk to the nutrient content, gross energy and bulk density. The method used laboratory experiment using a completely randomized design (CRD) on factorial pattern (6 x 5) with the level of biogas waste liquid : P0-treatment (0% negative control), P0+ (Cellulomonas sp as positive control), P1 (5%), P2 (10%), P3 (15%), P4 (20%) ml/g, and the incubation time : T0 (0 day control ), T1(7 days), T2 (14 days), T3 (21 days) and T4 (28 days). The variables measured was the content of ash, crude protein, crude fiber, crude fat, gross energy and bulk density. Data were analyzed by analysis of variance (anova) CRD Factorial pattern and if there is a significant difference was followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test. The results of research was the level of biogas liquid waste and the incubation time provides a significant influence (P<0.01) on the nutrient content, gross energy and bulk density of rice husk. The interaction level liquid waste provision of biogas and incubation time was highly significant (P<0.01) on the nutrient content, gross energy and bulk density. It can be concluded that the addition of biogas liquid waste 15% (ml/g) with a time of incubation for 21 days have best rice husk quality content based on improvement of crude protein, crude fat, and gross energy with lowest crude fiber.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the effect of Organic Protein as a feed ingredient on pH, viscosity and enzyme activity in the small intestine and levels of ammonia in broiler excreta. Organic Protein is a Single Cell Protein (SCP) product name from PT. Miwon Indonesia that has a protein content up to 40%. We conducted a field experiment and used DOC broilers and Organic Protein as treatment feed in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) comprising of 5 treatments and 6 replicates, accounting for 30 experimental units. The feed treatments were basal feed T0, T1, T2, T3 and T4 added with Organic Protein 0%, 1.5%, 3%, 4.5%, and 6%, respectively. The observed variables were pH, viscosity, enzyme activity (amylase and protease) of small intestine and excreta ammonia level of broiler. The data were analyzed with ANOVA followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT). The results showed the treatments have very significantly different effects (P<0.01) on the amylase and protease activities, but significantly different effects (P>0.05) on pH, viscosity of small intestine, and ammonia levels of excreta. The use of Organic Protein at a level of 4.5% gave the best results to increase enzyme activity of amylase and protease.

Abstract

The research aim to determine Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb encapsulated as a feed additive and its implementation on broiler production performance. The method used was a field experiment using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), which consisted of 6 treatments and 4 replicates, namely; (P0-) negative control (commercial feed), (P1+) positive control (antibiotic 0.1%), P2 (C. xanthorrhiza encapsulation 0.25%), P3 (C. xanthorrhiza encapsulation 0.50%), P4 (C. xanthorrhiza encapsulation 0.75%) and P5 (C. xanthorrhiza encapsulation 1%). The results showed that the addition of temulawak (Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb) encapsulation in broiler feed can have a very significant effect (P < 0.01) on IOFC, a significant effect (P < 0.05) on body weight, feed conversion, and gives no significant effect (P>0.05) on feed consumption and carcass percentage. The use of temulawak (Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb) encapsulation at the level of 0.50% in broiler feed, numerically showed positive results on feed consumption, body weight gain, carcass percentage, IOFC and feed conversion. In conclusion, the addition of temulawak (Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb) encapsulated at the level of 0.50% in broiler feed is recommended as a feed additive to replace antibiotics because it tends to increase broiler production performance

Abstract

This study evaluated the impact of adding onion (Allium cepa L.), shallot (Allium ascalonicum L.), and garlic (Allium sativum L.) peels as additives to the broiler production. The material used was 189 one-day-old commercial broiler chicken Lohmann strain (unsexing) and assigned to nine treatments and three replications: T0(-): basal diet, T0(+): basal diet + antibiotic (zinc bacitracin 0.1%), T1: basal diet + 0.5% garlic peel, T2: basal diet + 0.5% shallot peel, T3: basal diet + 0.5% onion peel, T4: basal diet + 0.25% garlic peel and 0.25% shallot peel, T5: basal diet + 0.25%. garlic peel + 0.25% onion peel, T6: basal diet + 0.25% shallot peel + 0.25% onion peel, T7: basal diet + 0.167% garlic peel + 0.167% shallot peel + 0.167% onion peel. Feed intake, final body weight, feed conversion ratio (FCR), mortality, productivity index, and income over feed cost were the variables that were observed in the current study. The data were analysed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The results of the study show that the addition of the three garlic powders do not give any effect (P>0.05) on feed intake, final body weight, FCR, mortality, production index and IOFC. The conclusions of this study showed that garlic peel, shallot peel, and onion peel could be used as feed additive. This choice yields positive effects on production performance, particularly in terms of Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) and the production index.
