Abstract

Children with special needs often struggle to maintain their focus. This study aims to evaluate the influence of using Android media on the focus ability of children with special needs. The research was conducted with 10 special needs children at a Cerebral Palsy Care Foundation. The research method employed was quasi-experimental with a single-group pre-test post-test control design. The results of the study indicate that the use of Android media significantly improves the focus ability of children with special needs. The pre-test data showed an average score of 2.9, while the post-test data showed an average score of 10. The Sign Test was used to calculate the results, and the ZH value (5.06) was found to be greater than the 5% Z-table value (1.64) / ZH (5.06) > Z table (1.64). Therefore, it is recommended to consider using Android media as an alternative to enhance the focus ability of children with special needs.

Abstract

The growing complexity of real-world problems has heightened the need for critical thinking skills in education, particularly in fields like statistical education. This study examines the integration of the Flipped Classroom (FC) model with Problem-Based Learning (PBL) to foster critical thinking among university students. Conducted at Bhineka University, the research involved 60 students divided into experimental (FC+PBL) and control (PBL-only) groups. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining pre-tests, post-tests, classroom observations, and reflective journals to collect quantitative and qualitative data. The experimental group participated in pre-class activities such as video lectures and quizzes, with in-class sessions focusing on collaborative problem-solving guided by PBL principles. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) revealed a significant improvement in critical thinking skills in the FC+PBL group compared to the PBL-only group (p < 0.001). Qualitative findings highlighted increased engagement, collaboration, and deeper inquiry among the experimental group. These results underscore the potential of integrating FC and PBL to create dynamic, student-centered learning environments that enhance critical thinking and prepare students to tackle complex challenges effectively

Abstract

The urgency or main issue in this study lies in the low problem-solving skills of students, particularly in understanding and solving story problems based on real-life contexts in algebra learning. This study aims to analyze the needs and impact of the contextual Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on students' ability to analyze mathematical problem concepts. This research is a descriptive qualitative study, designed to deeply explore students' experiences, perceptions, and abilities in addressing mathematical problems through the PBL approach. This study employs survey and quasi-experimental methods to measure the impact of the application of this learning model, as well as to identify factors influencing its success in the context of mathematics education. The study was conducted at the Sekolah Indonesia Kuala Lumpur over one semester of learning, involving 88 seventh-grade students as the research subjects. The selection of subjects was purposive, choosing students who participated in mathematics learning with the contextual PBL approach, with the aim of exploring the needs and impact of applying this learning model. The main instruments used to collect data in this study were observation, essay tests, and questionnaires. Analysis was carried out using descriptive qualitative methods. The results of the study showed that the application of the contextual Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model played a significant role in improving students' ability to analyze mathematical concepts, particularly in algebra learning. Contextual PBL allows students to connect abstract mathematical concepts with real-life situations, which strengthens their conceptual understanding and encourages their active involvement in solving problems. This approach not only improves students' academic understanding but also develops critical thinking and problem-solving skills useful in everyday life. Therefore, the application of contextual PBL should be expanded, as it supports meaningful learning and prepares students to face complex challenges.

Abstract

This study explores the adaptation of the Academic Motivation Scale (AMS) for Indonesian homeschool students using English as their second language. The primary objective was to assess the scale's reliability and validity in this unique educational context and to conduct a descriptive analysis of intrinsic, extrinsic, and amotivation scales. A sample of 26 students from Grades 7 to 11 participated, responding to an English-adapted AMS questionnaire. The findings revealed high internal consistency across all motivation scales, as indicated by Cronbach's alpha values (Intrinsic Motivation: 0.918, Extrinsic Motivation: 0.928, Amotivation: 0.868). Pearson correlation coefficients further supported the reliability of individual subscales. Descriptive analysis showed varying mean scores across different motivational dimensions. The study highlights the AMS's potential in diverse linguistic and educational settings, emphasizing the need for contextual adaptations. While the results affirm the scale's applicability in a homeschool environment, the study acknowledges limitations in sample size and suggests future research directions, including expanding the sample size and employing Confirmatory Factor Analysis for more comprehensive validation. This research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on academic motivation in alternative learning environments, particularly in the post-pandemic educational landscape.
