Abstract

This research aims to develop patterns of students' mathematical literacy processes based on the Cognitive Load Theory (MLCLT). Research using Design-Based Research (DBR) aims to design and develop learning components in the form of resulting learning patterns arranged in 4 stages. The research results show that a CLT-based mathematical literacy process domain pattern has been found. For the aspect of formulating situations mathematically, the pattern of mathematization was produced, and it resulted in some students having good communication skills. For the element of employing mathematical concepts, facts, procedures, and reasoning, the pattern of application was produced, and it showed an increase in students' literacy processes for indicators such as mathematizing, representation, reasoning, argument, devising strategies for solving problems, using symbolic, formal, and technical language and operations, as well as using mathematical tools. The pattern for the aspect of interpreting, applying, and evaluating mathematical outcomes is the reflection pattern. In this pattern, students are already accustomed to having indicators of mathematical literacy processes related to devising strategies for solving problems, using symbolic, formal, and technical language and operations, as well as using mathematical tools so that they can produce real solutions to real-world problems.

Abstract

This research was a descriptive research. Description of research result was presented quantitatively and qualitatively. Subjects of the research were 30 (thirty) 8th graders of SMPN 10 (State Junior High School) in Semarang, Indonesia. Data were collected through tests, documentation, observations, and interview. Student answers documents were observed and analyzed with SOLO Taxonomy guidance. The objective of the study was to analyze and provide an interpretation of students abstract reasoning level in cognitive development based on intended learning outcomes. The result of findings from students’ answers basically showed that students' abstract reasoning on the lower, middle and upper level, was alike to stages of structure complexity improvement. There were two main changes from concrete thinking to abstract thinking: quantitative stage (uni-structural and multi-structural) occurred first, as the number of details in student responses increased and then changed qualitatively (relational and extended abstract) because the detail was integrated into a structural pattern.

Abstract

Increasingly advanced and developing technology resulted in the rapid development of science. Students have used smartphones a lot with the help of the internet to learn and obtain information. The impact of the covid pandemic has affected the use of technology. Digital-based teaching materials are needed to support student learning activities. One of the schools that will be used as a research location is SMP Nurul Muttaqin. This study aims to develop a valid, practical and effective Problem Based Learning (PBL) based e-worksheet to improve students' critical thinking skills towards quadrilateral math material. In this study using qualitative methods with the development of 4-D (Four-D Models), namely define, design, develop and disseminate. The instruments used in the study were media expert and material expert validation sheets, student response questionnaires and questions to measure students' problem-solving abilities. PBLbased E-worksheet is said to be valid in terms of media 111.5 with good criteria, and material expert validation obtains an average score of 51 with good criteria. From these results the developed e-worksheet can be declared to meet the validity criteria for a teaching material. Based on the results of the questionnaire the responses of e-worksheet students were said to be practical by small groups and large groups. Based on the student response questionnaire, the small group obtained an average score of 49,2 with good criteria, and the large group obtained an average score of 51.3 with good criteria. In this study, the effectiveness of the e-worksheet was obtained through post-test questions from the treatment group and control group using the independent sample t test and obtained tcount > ttable, so h0 was rejected, which means that learning with treatment groups using the pbl model assisted by eworksheet is effective. to increase the critical thinking of class vii students of smp nurul muttaqin compared to the control group that does not use e-worksheet.

Abstract

Mathematical litreracy is defined as individual capacity to reason mathematically, to formulate, to employ, and to interpret mathematics, and to solve problems in the various real-life contexts. These skills are important for students but PISA – an OECD program to assess these skills – reported that the Indonesian students’ performance in mathematical literacy remains low for decades mostly due to instructional factor. It also happened in SMP N 2 Cimerak – a junior high school in Pangandaran, Indonesia, that the students still need a lot of improvement in mathematical literacy skills and their teachers also needs to develop capacity to teach the skills. This research aims to develop a valid and practical lesson plans which could be used to foster mathematical literacy. The lesson plans also include powerpoint presentation slides, students’ worksheet, teaching materials, and assessment instrument. It was a modified version of R&D introduced by Plomp which consist of stages: initial investigation, design, construction, evaluation, and final product. In the evaluation stage, we involved four experts to validate the lesson plans and 26 junior high school students to test the lesson plans, and revised them accordingly. The results suggest that the lesson plans are valid with the score of 4.46 (lesson plan), 3.96 (PPT slides), 4.38 (worksheet), 4.00 (teaching materials), dan 4.39 (assessment). The validity could be explained from the accommodation of mathematical literacy domains such as contexts (job and society, local environment maps), content (change and relationship, Cartesian coordinate), process (manifested in the problem-based learning), and the skills (communication, mathematization, representation, reasoning, devising strategies, using symbols, and using mathematics tools). The testing also resulted in 84.19 score of students’ positive responses and 3.92 (good) score of practicality. Moreover, the lessons also have potential effects in fostering students’ mathematical literacy viewed from the observation of mathematical literacy process, which suggest that 3.8% students in low performance, 53.8% students in intermediate performance, and 42.3% students in high performance. Therefore, the lesson plans were valid, practical, and having potential effect in fostering students’ mathematical literacy.

Abstract

This research aimed to discover character education in the Contemporary Era. This research is qualitative phenomenological research. As the main instrument, researchers have long studied several library studies in the form of journal articles related to character education in mathematics learning in Indonesia. In addition, some descriptive data are obtained from the writer's experience studying character education over the last five years. Character development through mathematical teaching requires teachers to associate the character values they want to develop with the importance of mathematics and their learning. Then, teachers must be capable of planning and implementing their knowledge. The axiom is determined by agreement; thus, the deal is significant in mathematics. It will embed the agreement's value in the soul of every child who succeeds well when learning mathematics. Eventually, obedience will be inherited in the child's soul. A theorem is a broad range of factual statements and truths obtained from axioms using deductive reasoning. If, in mathematical learning the teacher succeeds in inserting the values contained in the relationship between theorem and axiom, the teacher can also integrate Pancasila values so that Pancasila is positioned like axioms. In short, contextual and contemporary mathematical learning plays a significant role in developing skills essential to modern society and the formation of national character.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the results of observations that indicate that the critical thinking skills of students at SMAN 2 Yogyakarta still need to be improved. This is seen during learning practices, where they are still fixated on the formulas they have memorized to solve problems, so that not many students can provide further explanations about solving the problem. On the other hand, the pretest results also show that the average value of students' critical thinking skills is still very low, namely 30.76% with 1 student having high critical thinking skills and 33 others still classified as low and very low. Therefore, this Classroom Action Research (CAR) is a study that aims to improve critical skills in high school mathematics through discovery learning assisted by LKPD. This research was conducted in two cycles, each cycle consisting of four stages: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The results of the study show an increase in critical thinking skills from cycle I to cycle II. In cycle I, the average percentage of students' critical thinking skills reached 73.64% (medium category), while in cycle II, it increased to 80.72% (high category). Thus, this classroom action research succeeded in achieving the expected goal, namely, improving critical thinking skills in secondary school mathematics through the application of the Discovery Learning model assisted by LKPD
