Abstract

The aim of this study is to find out the relation between language with logic and mathematics. This study is essential because language, logics, and mathematics are important for developing science and technology. Existence of a nation depend on its competence on science and technology. Wittgenstein is a prominent philosopher in twenteeth century, especially on language analyses. He is the person who masters modern logic in his era. He exerted more of his time for mathematics, especially since 1929 until 1944. According to Wittgenstein, language is the basix of logic and mathematics. The implication of his account is mastering in language is a prerequisities for mastering in logic and mathematics. The suggestion is education practice ought to develop the language education, logic education, and mathematics education in integrity.

Abstract

The success of students in problem solving is highly dependent on the ability of students representing each developmental problems and a higher representation influenced by other representations. The aim of research to uncover and describe the capabilities and dispositions mathematical representation based on the students’ mathematical power. The subjects were students (prospective teachers of mathematics) academic year 2015/2016 Mathematics Education Department, Sultan Agung Islamic University. The numbers of students in this study were 29 students. The data collection technique using a mathematical representation tests, mathematical disposition questionnaires and interviews. The study concluded that the representation is affected by the disposition of the mathematical aspects of a person, through a positive disposition will help increase students' understanding of mathematical concepts. Furthermore, the mathematical representation will improve communication skills, perform conjecture and troubleshooting. In general disposition and mathematical representation was instrumental in enhancing the competence of the students’ mathematical power. Keywords: disposition, representations, mathematical power

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah penerapan model Resource Based Learning dan Problem Based Learning efektif terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah peserta didik pada materi lingkaran subpokok bahasan persamaan garis singgung lingkaran dan mengetahui apakah penerapan model Resource Based Learning lebih baik dari Problem Based Learning. Populasi penelitian ini adalah peserta didik kelas XI IPA SMA Negeri 3 Semarang tahun pelajaran 2012/2013. Sampel diambil dengan teknik purposive random sampling. Data hasil penelitian diperoleh dengan metode tes yang dianalisis dengan uji proporsi dan uji t. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peserta didik kelas eksperimen dan kontrol telah mencapai ketuntasan klasikal. Keaktifan peserta didik kelas eksperimen dan kontrol dalam pembelajaran mencapai kriteria sangat aktif. Kinerja guru selama pembelajaran mencapai kriteria sangat baik. Kelas eksperimen memiliki rata-rata kemampuan pemecahan masalah lebih tinggi dari kelas kontrol. Simpulan yang diperoleh adalah penerapan Resource Based Learning dan Problem Based Learning efektif terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah peserta didik dan penerapan Resource Based Learning lebih baik dari Problem Based Learning.Kata kunci: keefektifan, kemampuan pemecahan masalah, resource based learning

Abstract

Mathematical thinking is absolutely essential for school learning at all levels, including the HOT and LOT. The purpose of this study is to characterize the mathematical critical thinking ability pattern using Ennis and Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences. The research conducted in this study is qualitative. Purposive sampling was used in this study, which was conducted at SMPN 29 Bandar Lampung. Five people were involved in this study. To collect data, the researcher used a mathematical critical thinking essay test, a multiple intelligence questionnaire administered by a psychology expert, and in-depth interviews. Techniques for data analysis include data reduction, data visualization, inference, and verification (conclusion drawing and verification). The triangulation technique is used to find the truth of the data. The findings indicated that students were able to articulate the steps involved in developing mathematical critical thinking abilities. Additionally, students are more critical when it comes to problem-solving and approach the problem appropriately. Students provide direct responses rather than generalizations. Mathematics-related critical thinking patterns are frequently inductive.

Abstract

Mathematics provides many benefits to human life and continues to grow. The development of mathematics begins with a paradigm shift of mathematics from experts and society. The paradigm of a person about mathematics will affect the way he learns and knows more about mathematics. This paradigm shift affects the changes in the implementation of the education system that impacts the curriculum, learning, and evaluation of mathematics learning. In addition, this paradigm shift also raises some problems in learning mathematics. This paper will provide an overview of how the journey of change of mathematical paradigm from time to time and give an idea of how the mathematics curriculum developed and how the pattern of learning and evaluation of mathematical learning done in the current era. In addition, this paper also provides an overview of the problems of mathematics education in Indonesia and its comparison from several countries namely Finland, Canada and Japan.

Abstract

Wittgenstein is a unique philosopher. He criticizes his own opinion. Philosophers divide his views in two periods that are early and later. The early of Wittgentein’s view set by Tractatus Logico Philosophicus and the later set by Philosophical Investigations. Wittgenstein's conceptions of mathematics fall in three periods, that are early, midle and later. The early period Wittgenstein's conception of mathematics set by Tractatus Logico Philosophicus, the midle period set by Philosophical Grammar dan Philosophical Remarks, and the later period set by Remarks on the Foundations of Mathematics. The Wittgenstein’s view on mathematics is not belonging to logicism, formalism, or intuitionism. The later Wittgenstein on mathematics is that “Mathematics as a human invention”. He maintains his rejection for infinitely in mathematics.

Abstract

Di masa pandemi, seluruh kegiatan pembelajaran khususnya pembelajaran matematika tidak dilaksanakan di sekolah melainkan dirumah masing-masing atau secara daring. Salah satu keterampilan matematika yang perlu dikuasai peserta didik adalah kemampuan pemecahan masalah. Kurikulum 2013 revisi 2018 juga menerapkan bahwa peserta didik harus terlibat secara aktif dalam pemecahan masalah serta dapat menafsirkan dan memahami kompetensi yang dibimbing oleh guru. Hasil UN peserta didik SMP/MTs/SMPT menunjukan bahwa kemampuan pemecahan masalah peserta didik masih tergolong rendah padahal soal tersebut merupakan soal rutin, sedangkan soal non rutin (open-ended problems) sudah jarang digunakan pada saat penyajian soal. Salah satu upaya untuk mengatasi hal tersebut yaitu menggunakan pendekatan open-ended dengan bantuan power point sebagai media penunjang dalam pembelajaran daring di masa pandemi. Populasi yang diambil adalah peserta didik kelas VII SMP Negeri 1 Comal, sedangkan metode yang digunakan adalah quasi experimental design dengan rancangan penelitian berupa pre-test post-test control group dimana terdapat dua kelompok uji coba yaitu kelompok eksperimen dan kontrol yang dipilih secara random sampling. Dari uji kesamaan rata-rata pihak kanan dan uji gain ternormalisasi menunjukan hasil bahwa pembelajaran dengan pendekatan open-ended dan power point efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah peserta didik dan lebih baik dibanding model pembelajaran ekspositori.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic condition prompted the government to recommend study from home, therefore e-learning was used as an alternative implementation of learning. In e-learning it is necessary to set learning objectives, learning models and learning media that are used to deliver teaching materials. Therefore, PACE model using problem-based learning with modules aid is used with the aim of learning statistical reasoning. The purpose of this study was to determine the implementation of e-learning with the PACE model assisted by problem-based modules in statistical lectures in the Covid-19 pandemic condition and the effectiveness of e-learning with the PACE model assisted by problem-based modules in statistical lectures on statistical reasoning. The research method used is a descriptive method with a sample of 24 students who took the research statistics course. The results showed that the implementation of e-learning with PACE model using problem-based learning with modules aid in statistics lectures in the Covid-19 pandemic conditions can be carried out according to the plan, using the google classroom application and whatsapp as learning media. The effectiveness of the learning model on statistical reasoning is proven effective, where the average value of statistical reasoning is 74.58 and the reasoning increase in the medium category is 54%.

Abstract

Matematika seringkali dianggap sebagai mata pelajaran yang menakutkan bagi sebagian besar siswa sekolahmenengah pertama. Self-efficacy pada siswa merupakan sebuah keyakinan yang menggambarkan kemampuan siswauntuk mengatur dan menggunakan potensi diri dalam menghadapi situasi yang akan dating. Siswa seringkalimengalami kesulitan dalam mengaplikasikan kemampuan self-efficacy untuk mengelola potensi dalam rangkamenyelesaikan permasalahan dalam menghadapi kesulitan selama proses belajar mengajar. Oleh sebab itu, penelitianini mencoba menganalisis kemampuan self-efficacy siswa usia sekolah menengah pertama sebagai dasar masukanpengelolaan kemampuan non-kognitif siswa. Penelitian dilakukan di MTS N 2 Pemalang dengan melibatkan 174siswa kelas delapan sebagai responden. Data dikoleksi menggunakan instrument angket online skala Likert yangmenggambarkan sikap inisiasi, persistensi dan aksi dalam menghadapi pembelajaran mata pelajaran matematika.Data yang diperoleh ditabulasi dan dianalisis secara structural equation modeling (SEM) menggunakan SmartPLS3.0. Berdasarkan hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa tindakan inisiasi siswa mencapai 68.44±10,98%, sedangkansikap persistensi mencapai 69,14±10,23%, dan aksi dalam memanfaatkan potensi diri sebesar 72,50±12,07%.Adapun kontribusi masing-maing aspek terhadap self-efficacy adalah aspek inisiasi sebesar 34,1%, persistensisebesar 19,8% dan aksi sebesar 56,9%. Hal tersebut menunjukkan bahwa siswa masih memiliki tindakan inisiasiyang rendah dan mudah mengalami penurunan minat dalam belajar matematika, namun dalam segi eksekusi tindakanmenyelesaikan tugas lebih tinggi dibanding aspek lain. Self-efficacy kemungkinan berpengaruh terhadap motivasisiswa dalam menghadapi permasalahan pada mata pelajaran matematika, serta keinginan mengejar prestasi di bidangtersebut. Selain itu, masalah lingkungan pergaulan atau teman sebaya juga memiliki peran dalam peningkatan selfefficacy.Secara rata-rata self-efficacy siswa kelas delapan MTS N2 Pemalang memiliki self-efficacy yang masihtergolong dalam kategori rendah.

Abstract

Abstrak.Tujuan dalam penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis perbedaan dan pengaruh kemampuan berpikir kritis dalam mengerjakan soal framework PISA Geometri khususnya bangun ruang sisi datar ditinjau dari gender dan self-efficacy. Soal-soal matematika framework PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) digunakan karena lebih dominan mengukur penalaran, pemecahan masalah, dan berargumentasi. Metode penelitian yang digunakan Ex-Post Facto dengan pendekatan kuantitatif artinya data penelitian ini mengukur kemampuan berpikir kritis dan tingkat self-efficacy matematika siswa, sedangkan gender sudah jelas. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas VIII SMP Ma’arif Kalibawang Kabupaten Kulon Progo yang berjumlah 76 siswa. Pengambilan sampel merujuk pada teori Rascoe dengan teknik simple random sampling berjumlah 34 siswa terdiri dari 17 laki-laki dan 17 perempuan. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan angket self-efficacy dan soal tes. Adapun soal tes framework PISA bersifat uraian sebanyak 2 soal digunakan untuk mengukur aspek kemampuan berpikir kritis meliputi elementary clarification, the basis for the decisions, Inference, advances clarification, dan set strategy, tactic, and reflection. Analisis data menggunakan two-way anova untuk menguji perbedaan antar variable menggunakan bantuan software SPPSS 21, sedangkan analisis jalur untuk mengkaji pola pengaruh antar variable kemampuan berpikir kritis, self-efficacy dan gender menggunakan regression linear analysis berbantuan software SPSS 21. Analisis hasil dan pembahasan pada penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa: (1) terdapat perbedaan kemampuan berpikir kritis ditinjau dari gender (jenis kelamin) dan tingkat self-efficacy matematika siswa baik tinggi, sedang maupun rendah; dan (2) ada pengaruh positif self-efficacy matematika siswa terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis, sedangkan gender mempunyai pengaruh negative terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis. Abstract. The purpose of this research is to analyze the differences and the impact of critical thinking skills in working on the problem PISA Geometry framework in particular to build a flat side space in terms of gender and self-efficacy. The PISA (Program for International Student Assessment) framework mathematics questions are used because they are more dominant in measuring reasoning, problem-solving, and arguing. The research method used is Ex-Post Facto with a quantitative approach, meaning that the research data measures critical thinking skills and the level of students' mathematical self-efficacy, while gender is clear. The population in this study were all eighth-grade students of SMP Ma'arif Kalibawang, Kulon Progo Regency, totaling 76 students. Sampling refers to Rascoe's theory with a simple random sampling technique totaling 34 students consisting of 17 males and 17 females. Data collection techniques using self-efficacy questionnaires and test questions. The PISA framework test questions are descriptive as many as 2 questions are used to measure aspects of critical thinking skills including elementary clarification, the basis for the decisions, Inference, advanced clarification, and set strategy, tactics, and reflection. Data analysis used two-way ANOVA to test the differences between variables using SPSS 21 software, while path analysis to examine the pattern of influence between variables of critical thinking ability, self-efficacy and gender used regression linear analysis assisted by SPSS 21 software. Analysis of results and discussion on This study shows that: (1) there are differences in critical thinking skills in terms of gender (gender) and students' mathematics self-efficacy levels, both high, medium and low; and (2) there is a positive effect of students' mathematical self-efficacy on critical thinking skills, while gender has a negative influence on critical thinking skills.
