Abstract

Abstract

Limited capital is a common problem in small scale farming in Indonesia, and red chili farms is no exception. The red chili farmers require a certain amount of inputs to carry out production activities. High production costs of those inputs, however, has led farmers to reduce the use of the inputs. This results in low crop production, while the demand for red chili in Indonesia continues to increase. Credit is a form of financing that can be given to the farmers in order to raise their purchasing power for the required production inputs. Some studies show that there is a positive impact of credit on farms’ performance, while some other show the opposite results. The aim of this research is to examine the impact of credit on the performance of red chili farms in Indonesia. The method used in this research is propensity score matching. The result of this research revealed that credit has a positive and significant impact to the farm revenue. Meanwhile, the profits obtained by farmers who use credit ar not significantly different from those of farmers who do not use credit.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors that influenced the production of roses and the level of technical, allocative, and economic efficiencies of rose farming in Central Java along with the factors that influenced them. This study employed Stochastic Frontier Analysis (SFA) and dual cost reduction methods. The findings of this study indicate that only three variables had a significant effect on rose production in Central Java, namely land area, number of plants, and chemical fertilizers. Furthermore, in terms of the level of efficiency, rose farming in Central Java had been said to be technically efficient but had not been considered to be efficient in terms of its allocation and economic factors with an average score of technical, allocative, and economic efficiencies of 0.82, 0.33, and 0.28. Socio-economic factors that significantly affected technical inefficiency were the source of seeds, business assistance, and partnership. Meanwhile, the variables that had a significant effect on allocative inefficiency and economic inefficiency were the proportion of self-financing sources, farmers group membership, and partnerships. Abstract

Sharecropping is a form of cooperation between landowners and tenants. Two types of sharecropping systems for rice farming in Bone District, South Sulawesi, impact income and production risks. This study aims to (1) analyze the implementation of the sharecropping system and (2) analyze income and production risk. This study used primary data from 117 Berebbo sub-district, Bone district farmers. Data were analyzed using income analysis and production risk. The results showed that the sharecropping system has been implemented traditionally according to customs and is not guided by Law No. 2 of 1960 about the sharecropping system. The sharecropping system has survived to this day because, in addition to improving the economy, it also strengthens farmers' social relations through honesty, trust, and helping each other.  There are two types of sharecropping of grain; type 1 is 1:2, and type 2 is 1:1. In type 1, the landowner only provides the land, while in type 2, the landowner provides the land and shares the cost of fertilizers, pesticides, and transportation. The profit of farming using type 2 is higher than type 1, but the risk level of type 2 is also higher than type 1. But the landowner gets a higher profit than tenants because the output distribution is grain without considering farming costs. The output should share the profits to provide justice for both parties. The results of this study can become literature for future researchers to study production risks in sharecropping systems.

Abstract

The export value of the whole nutmeg and nutmeg powder has increased yearly. Nevertheless, Indonesia's dependence on imports of nutmeg is high. This condition illustrates that Indonesia has not optimally utilized its export opportunities. Optimizing export opportunities can be done by paying attention to the factors that affect exports. Researchers used secondary data on the whole and nutmeg powder from 2012 to 2019 with research variables: Indonesia's GDP, GDP of export destination countries, economic distance, population, and sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) dummy. The processes of data use a gravity model approach. The results showed that the GDP of both countries and the SPS had a negative effect on trade in the whole nutmeg, while economic distance and population had a positive impact. Meanwhile, the effect on trade in nutmeg powder by Indonesia's GDP, GDP of export destination countries, and the population is positive, economic distance is negative, and the SPS has an insignificant effect. The policy implication is the government and stakeholders should choose trading partners with large populations and make post-harvest handling rules to minimize the impact of SPS barriers. Meanwhile, to increase the trade in nutmeg powder, choosing a trading partner with a high GDP is necessary.

Abstract

Model fungsi risiko produksi menggunakan fungsi risiko Just and Pope dengan model produksi Cobb Douglas.

Abstract

Abstract

The majority of farmers with small scale enterprises are still facing a capital shortage primarily rice farming. Capital constraints caused farmers must perform farm activities with a limited input. Limited input causing the output and the revenue generated is not optimal. Food security and energy credits are one of the credit which intends to help especially rice farmers. By the low interest rate, this credit is expected to help farmers for improving the use of inputs and increasing the output and revenue. The aims of study are to evaluate the use of credit on production activities and to analyze the increase in rice farming profits before and after the credits. Research methods used in this research were descriptive analysis, multiple regression analysis, and different test (t-test). The results showed that the rice farmers used KKPE for 53% for rice farming which included the purchase of equipment and farm machinery, production inputs and labor wage. An increase in rice farming profits, but not affected by the credit, and from the t-test result that there was no difference profits before and after credit.

Abstract

High feed prices and a high proportion of feed costs cause the profitability of fish farming businesses to decline. One of the government's efforts to reduce feed costs is encouraging fish farmers to produce their feed using local raw materials through Self-Sufficiency Fish Feed Program. This study aims to analyze program’s impact on the fish farming performance using the Propensity Score Matching (PSM) method. Performance is measured by cost, revenue, profit, R/C ratio, Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR), and technical efficiency which estimated using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA). The results show that program implementation at the fish farmer's level has not positively impacted the fish farming business's performance. The results of the PSM analysis show that the program significantly impacts on costs, revenue, profit, R/C ratio, FCR, and technical efficiency. Farmers with programs have a higher average cost and FCR than farmers without programs. The fish farmers with program have a lower revenue, profit, R/C ratio and technical efficiency than fish farmers without program. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the main cause the program has not had a positive impact on the fish farming businesses performance is the quality of self-sufficiency fish feed. Therefore, the recommended policy is to create a system for supplying local raw materials with good quality, increasing feed formulation training and need specialize by forming group of self-sufficiency fish feed producers separated from the fish farming group.
