Abstract

Community development in rural areas requires an inclusive approach that recognizes the vital role of women in economic transformation. This research explores the implementation of gender-based participatory planning as a strategy for sustainable local economic empowerment in Klambir 5 Village, Deli Serdang Regency. Through a qualitative descriptive approach involving 45 community members, this study reveals how women's active involvement in planning processes creates more responsive and sustainable development outcomes. The findings demonstrate that participatory mechanisms incorporating gender perspectives significantly enhance women's economic capacity, strengthen community social capital, and foster locally-driven sustainable development. This study contributes to the discourse on inclusive development by presenting an empirical model where gender-sensitive participatory planning becomes a catalyst for equitable economic growth. The research concludes that recognizing women as development agents, not merely beneficiaries, fundamentally transforms the effectiveness of rural economic empowerment initiatives.

Abstract

This community service program aims to strengthen the governance of the Merah Putih Village/Urban Cooperatives (KDKMP) through structured lecturing and basic institutional training. The initiative responds to common challenges faced by Indonesian cooperatives, including weak managerial capacity, insufficient understanding of institutional roles, and low internal oversight. Conducted via Zoom in September 2025 and involving 182 participants across North Sumatra, the program utilized structured lecturing, interactive discussions, and simple simulations to convey cooperative governance principles. The results reveal significant improvement in participants’ comprehension of cooperative principles, institutional roles, accountability, and transparency. Furthermore, the program successfully facilitated the establishment of a communication network among KDKMP units, enabling the sharing of insights and best practices. This initiative aligns with the mandate of Presidential Instruction No. 9/2025 on the revitalization of KDKMP and reaffirms the strategic role of higher education institutions in enhancing cooperative governance through structured knowledge transfer.

Abstract

This study examines and compares ecological economy optimization strategies within sustainable agri-food systems across two contrasting administrative regions of North Sumatra, Indonesia. The research aims to evaluate implementation effectiveness, identify performance differentials, and develop strategic frameworks to enhance sustainable agricultural development considering socio-economic and environmental diversity. A mixed-methods comparative design was applied, combining quantitative surveys of 450 agricultural stakeholders per district with qualitative interviews involving key informants such as policymakers, producers, and supply chain actors. Quantitative data included environmental impact, economic performance, and supply chain efficiency indicators, analyzed using multivariate regression and structural equation modeling. Findings reveal that Deli Serdang demonstrates higher technological adoption (78.4%) and operational efficiency (91.2%) than Simalungun (61.7% and 76.8%), driven by infrastructure advantages and urban proximity. Conversely, Simalungun shows greater engagement in organic farming (68.9%) and stronger community-based sustainability practices. Both regions face constraints in sustainable financing access and technical capacity for green supply chain implementation. This research introduces the first dual-regional framework for ecological economy assessment in Indonesian agri-food systems, offering a scalable model for tropical developing contexts. The results support Indonesia’s Green Economy Index initiatives and inform policy design for sustainable food system transformation.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the use of big data and machine learning techniques to predict the effects of Sharia monetary policy on economic stability. Motivated by the underexplored nature of Sharia-compliant financial forecasting, the research applies various machine learning models including Random Forest, XGBoost, Support Vector Regression (SVR), Linear Regression, and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) networks to long-term stock and monetary trend predictions within the Islamic finance context. Utilizing a dataset of Indonesian Sharia stocks and financial indicators, and employing SHAP analysis for model interpretability, the study evaluates model performance based on metrics like MAPE and R². Results reveal that SVR outperforms other algorithms, providing robust and interpretable predictions that capture the influence of key financial indicators such as moving averages and Sharia-compatible BI Rate transmissions. The findings have practical implications for enhancing financial inclusion and promoting risk-efficient, interest-free profit-sharing models, with national Sharia financial assets projected to exceed Rp10.5 quadrillion by 2026. The study fills gaps in academic literature on Islamic monetary forecasting and sets a foundation for future integration of hybrid AI models for real-time policy evaluation, supporting the digital transformation of Sharia banking aligned with maqasid syariah principles

Abstract

The agricultural sector is the main foundation of livelihood for the community in Adiankoting District, where the majority of residents depend on farming activities. However, efforts to improve agricultural productivity face various challenges related to social and economic factors, as well as the unequal relationship between farmers and middlemen.Farmers often experience limitations in capital, technology, and market access, which force them to rely on middlemen who frequently offer low selling prices and place farmers in a disadvantaged position. Economically, the agricultural sector in Adiankoting is also affected by price fluctuations, dependence on unpredictable seasons, and the lack of supporting facilities such as irrigation and access to agricultural credit.Despite these challenges, agriculture remains the backbone of the local economy, influencing farmers’ income, household welfare, and overall village development. With a land area of 502.90 km² and comprising 16 villages, Adiankoting District holds significant agricultural potential, particularly in larger areas such as Dolok Nauli Village. Understanding the influence of social and economic factors, as well as the roles of farmers and middlemen, is essential for identifying appropriate solutions to improve farmers’ welfare and promote sustainable agricultural development in Adiankoting District.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of education, minimum wage, and the Human Development Index (HDI) on poverty levels across 33 regencies/cities in North Sumatra Province for the 2015-2024 period. Employing a quantitative approach with panel data regression analysis, this research establishes the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) as the optimal estimation model through a series of rigorous tests. The results indicate that, simultaneously, education, minimum wage, and HDI have a significant impact on poverty, with an explanatory power of 87.15%. Partially, all three variables exert a significant negative influence, indicating that enhancing human capital quality and wage standards effectively reduces poverty rates. The policy implications of these findings emphasize the importance of an integrated poverty reduction strategy through improved educational access, wage policies that ensure purchasing power, and the strengthening of health and living standard dimensions. Local governments should prioritize budget allocation to the sectors constituting the HDI to accelerate equitable poverty reduction throughout North Sumatra

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the determinants of corn farmers' income in Stabat District, Langkat Regency, using a mixed method approach. Data were collected from August 2025 to February 2026 through questionnaires, interviews, and observations of 195 respondents determined using the Slovin formula. The analysis was conducted using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and multiple linear regression. The CFA results reduced eight variables into three main factors (Physical Resources, Human Resource Quality, and Market Mechanisms) that explained 68.7% of the variation in income. The regression test showed that Selling Price (beta=0.668), Land Area (beta=0.403), and Informal Education (beta=0.329$) had a positive and significant effect on income. Selling price was found to be the most dominant and sensitive factor to farmer welfare. The novelty of this study proves that informal education (extension) has a more strategic role than formal education in increasing income efficiency in the study location. Integratively, the income of corn farmers in Stabat is a unified system influenced by technical aspects of land, individual managerial capacity, and the stability of external market conditions )
