Abstract

The main problem taken to conduct this research is children with autism who experience low ability to make eye contact. This study aims to determine whether extended eye contact can be achieved by autistic individuals using the look technique. The purpose of this study is to learn how to improve the capacity of grade 4 autistic students to make eye contact. This study employs experimental research methods and a Subject Research Strategy (SSR) using an A-B-A design. The collected data will then be subjected to quantitative statistical processing before being displayed as percentages, graphs, and means. According to the study's findings, kids have a poor capacity to create eye contact before using the Look technique. (1) There was relatively little eye contact with the NA participant prior to using the Look method. (2) The NA participant had eye contact for a longer period of time after receiving the gaze method, reaching the high category. (3) For autistic children who have received treatment utilizing the Look approach, the amount of eye contact is sufficient. (4) While the value attained by NA individuals was higher than before receiving treatment, the capacity of NA subjects to extend contact time in baseline 1 (A1) settings in baseline 2 (A2) after receiving therapy declined from a high category to an adequate category in intervention condition B. This demonstrates how the Gaze method encourages extended eye contact in autistic kids. This is a result of the intervention's effect

Abstract

In an effort to enhance the quality of learning services in Special Education Schools, it is essential to employ instructional media that are not only adaptive but also capable of providing stimulation aligned with the students’ individual characteristics. This study aimed to determine the effect of using e-flashcard media on improving the reading comprehension skills of a fifth-grade student with cerebral palsy at SLBN 1 Takalar. The research employed a Single Subject Research (SSR) design with an A1–B–A2 model, consisting of three phases: baseline 1 (A1), intervention (B), and baseline 2 (A2). Data were collected through direct observation of the subject’s reading comprehension performance across sessions. The within-condition analysis showed that during the A1 phase, data remained stable with no significant improvement, while during the intervention phase (B), reading comprehension increased with some variability. In the A2 phase, data became stable again, maintaining the same performance level as the final intervention sessions. The between-condition analysis revealed 0% overlap in both A1/B and B/A2 comparisons, indicating no data overlap between phases. These findings suggest that the use of e-flashcards effectively enhances and maintains reading comprehension skills in students with cerebral palsy. Therefore, e-flashcards can serve as an engaging and adaptive instructional strategy to support literacy learning among students with special needs.

Abstract

Children with cerebral palsy (CP) face distinct challenges in pre-writing acquisition, yet existing assessment tools often prioritize motor deficits while overlooking environmental barriers. This study aimed to validate a multidimensional measurement model of pre-writing challenges and supports for students with CP in Indonesian special schools. Grounded in the ICF-CY, HAAT, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) frameworks, the model comprised four latent constructs: motor impairment to writing (MIW), pre-writing activity difficulties (PAD), inclusive learning environment (ILE), and adaptive pre-writing media (APM). A total of 108 students with CP in the pre-writing stage were rated by their teachers using a 5-point Likert questionnaire. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was conducted with IBM SPSS AMOS to examine model fit, factor loadings, and reliability. After removing poorly performing indicators, the final model with four factors and 19 indicators demonstrated excellent fit (Chi Square= 1.01, p = 0.43, CFI = 0.998, TLI = 0.997, RMSEA = 0.007, PNFI = 0.79). All standardized factor loadings ranged from 0.59 to 0.94 (p < 0.001), and Cronbach’s alpha values for the four constructs were between 0.87 and 0.89, indicating high internal consistency. Moderate to strong inter-factor correlations were found, particularly between PAD and ILE, highlighting the close interplay among functional limitations, activity demands, and classroom conditions. The validated instrument offers a concise framework for identifying pre-writing challenges and environmental supports in students with CP. It can inform individualized intervention planning, the design of inclusive learning environments, and the development of adaptive pre-writing media in resource-constrained settings.
