Abstract

Microfiltration is a low pressure driven membrane process of about 1 bar trans-membrane pressure which is used frequently for separating dissolved particles within 0.1 to 10 μm size. Microfiltration membranes are utilized in water and wastewater treatment processes either during pretreatment, treatment, or post-treatment steps. Moreover in bioprocessing, microfiltration is used in upstream process for substrate sterilization or in downstream process for microbial suspension separation. Fouling is one major concern of membrane filtration processes, including microfiltration. In this article, the fouling mechanism on microfiltration membrane is explained based on the blocking model refer to cake filtration due to the complexity of fouling phenomena. Fouling mechanism on dead-end and cross-flow modes microfiltration are explained, and basically distinguished into four different mechanisms, i.e. complete blocking, standard blocking, intermediate blocking and cake filtration. The proposed models are based on constant pressure operation on the uniform membrane pores, both for dead-end and cross-flow modes. Cross-flow mode, however, is restricted on the beginning of filtration until critical flux condition is reached.

Abstract

Language is the main communication tool in interacting with everyone in this world. Many languages were created to facilitate communication with others. Language is also the most important, creative, and fast means of communication for humans to convey their ideas, thoughts, and feelings. Language is inseparable from human life because it is humans who use language itself to communicate. The approach taken in this final project research is a qualitative method and carried out with an analytical descriptive method. The process intends to understand the phenomena about what is experienced by the research subject. Based on the results of the analysis that has been presented by the researcher, an understanding can be drawn that the factors of difficulty in learning Arabic at Madrasah Aliyah Al-Bairuny Sambongdukuh Jombang are found to be several difficulties as follows: 1. Understanding Arabic reading and text. 2. Expressing ideas and ideas in Arabic. 3. Pronunciation of Arabic letters. 4. Difficulty mastering Arabic vocabulary. 5. Understanding the grammar (Nahwu) and morphological system (Shorof) of Arabic. The causes are motivated by: 1. Academic: the non-linearity of previous education. 2. Internal students: lack of motivation to learn. It is expected to try to classify students based on their level of ability in Arabic lessons, this is intended to make it easier for teaching teachers to provide teaching portions to students and increase the chances of increasing understanding in each individual student. We should improve the methods of both approaches and learning Arabic. So that learning seems varied, not monotonous, and varied by students. This can be a driving factor and support their learning motivation.

Abstract

Currently, the crime of rape is rampant and has received considerable attention from the public. The crime of rape often brings difficulties, both in the stage of investigation, prosecution, and at the stage of imposing a verdict during the settlement of the case. Rape is an act in which a person commits violence or threat of violence to force a woman who is not his wife to have sex with him, as in the case of Decision Number 390/Pid.B/2021/PN Smn, the unnamed perpetrator committed the crime of rape against awoman who was in a state of helplessness or unconsciousness whose punishment was imposed based on Article 285 of the Criminal Code, The main problem is how the crime of rape in theory and its regulationin Indonesia, and whether the application of Article 285 of the Criminal Code to the perpetrator of rape against a woman in a helpless state is appropriate. This research is a normative research that is descriptive analysis, and the data used is secondary data, and data collection is done by literature study. The results concluded that the perpetrator's actions were a type of "exploitation rape", and the victim was a "pure victim", namely a victim who had never had contact with the perpetrator before the rape. The perpetrator's actions also fulfill the elements of Article 285 of the Criminal Code, the perpetrator's actions more fulfill the elements of Article 286 of the Criminal Code.

Abstract

Indonesia produces substantial quantities of organic waste annually, including approximately 2.4 million tons of fish innards from the fisheries sector (in 2023) and 13 million tons of food waste (in 2019). This waste contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions, estimated at 1,789.66 kg CO₂-eq per ton of food waste. Addressing this issue requires innovative strategies to reduce emissions and enhance the economic value of organic waste. This study aims to develop and assess an integrated system that combines Anaerobic Co-Digestion (ACoD) and Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae cultivation as a sustainable solution for managing fish innards and food waste. The proposed system processes 73,000 kg of organic waste annually, comprising 36,500 kg of fish innards and 32,850 kg of food waste. The ACoD process, utilizing a 10:90 mixing ratio, generates 2,172 m³ of biogas, 41,948.26 kg of digestate, and 14,576.67 kg of residue. Concurrently, BSF larvae cultivation, employing a 40:60 mixing ratio, produces 6,450.29 kg of dried larvae. The integration of ACoD and BSF larvae cultivation provides multiple advantages, including the production of renewable energy, biofertilizers, and high-protein larvae, while reducing organic waste and minimizing environmental impacts. This study demonstrates the potential scalability of the integrated system as a sustainable and economically viable approach to managing fish innards and food waste, contributing to the circular economy and environmental sustainability.

Abstract

Chlorella vulgaris is a widely studied microalga due to its applications in food, pharmaceutical, and bioenergy sectors. Traditional harvesting methods often require chemical agents and energy-intensive processes. This study evaluates and compares two membrane-based harvesting technologies—Forward Osmosis (FO) and Ultrafiltration (UF) on key performance parameters: water flux, reverse solute flux (RSF), membrane fouling, biomass concentration, and energy/cost efficiency. The FO process, operated with varying NaCl draw solution concentrations (3–5 M), achieved maximum fluxes of 1735.3 LMH (FS) and 1930.4 LMH (DS), with the highest biomass yield of 10.8 mg/L. The UF process, using PVDF membranes, reached a peak flux of 4367.8 LMH and higher membrane fouling. While UF showed faster dewatering with lower electrical energy (50.6W vs. 136W), FO demonstrated lower fouling and potential for continuous sustainable operation. These findings inform optimization strategies for scalable, energy-efficient microalgae harvesting systems.

Abstract

Objective: To investigate prolonged neurological impacts of COVID-19 and establish a connection between initial COVID-19 symptom severity and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) development, poor sleep quality (PSQ), and cognitive impairment (CI) in individuals recovered from COVID-19.Methods:  This cross-sectional study recruited COVID-19 survivors at Dr. Hasan Sadikin General Hospital Bandung, Indonesia, between June and December 2021. All participants gave informed consent and underwent interviews on demography, clinical features, long-COVID questionnaire, and neurological examination. Participants underwent cognitive examination (MOCA-INA), Chalder Fatigue Scale and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) to assess CI, CFS, and PSQ variables. Chi-Square analysis was performed to determine the probability of neurological long COVID-19 syndrome manifestations using SPSS 24.0.Results: Of the 127 participants recruited, 67.7% were women, median (IQR) age of 33 (21-65) years, and time from hospitalization to examination of nine months (1-13). The most common neurological Long COVID symptoms were PSQ (59.8. %), CFS (51.2%), and CI (33.9%). Participants with more than five acute phase COVID-19 symptoms had a higher probability of CFS and CI (OR 2.38 (1, 16-4.9, CI 95%); OR 2.20 (1.01-4.79, CI 95%)) than those with less than five symptoms. The study did not find a significant correlation between sleep quality and number of acute-phase COVID-19 symptoms (OR 1.56 (0.76-3.20, CI 95%)).Conclusion: Almost two-thirds of the COVID-19 survivors experienced PSQ, more than half had CFS, and almost one-third had CI. The study revealed an increasing likelihood of CFS and CI in COVID-19 survivors as the number of acute COVID-19 symptoms increases.
