Abstract

The purposes of this study are 1.) Describe the large chili supply chain. 2) Analyze the performance of large chili supply chains. This research was conducted in Jangkat and Jangkat Timur Districts of Merangin Regency from March to May 2019. Farmers 'samples were determined by simple random methods while traders' samples were determined by snowball sampling. The data analysis method includes a qualitative descriptive analysis with the Food Supply Chain Network (FSCN) framework to analyze the supply chain picture, while marketing analysis is to analyze supply chain performance by calculating marketing margins, farmer share, and marketing efficiency values. The results showed a large chili supply chain in Merangin District in the form of a network with the aim of the domestic market. The supply chain structure consists of five members, namely farmers, small traders, large traders, retailers and consumers. There are three supply chain channels, namely I (Farmer-retailer-consumer trader), II (farmer-small-trader-large-trader-retailer-consumer trader) III (farmer-large-trader-retailer-consumer trader). The implementation of supply chain management has not gone well and the available resources are still limited. Business processes in the large chili supply chain are not running because the information flow is not smooth. The cycle that is run in a business process is the procurement cycle. Supply chain performance results of the marketing aspect analysis show that the finalized marketing margin is on channel one of Rp. 6000. Farmer's highest share is in channel one of 85.25%. The lowest marketing efficiency value is in channel one of 4.14%, this shows that the performance of the large chili supply chain in Merangin Regency has run efficiently.

Abstract

Smallholder plantations play an important role in oil palm development in Jambi Province with a contribution of 70.47 percent to the total area and 57.10 to total palm oil production. Most of the smallholder plantations are self-managed which do not get technical guidance from both the government and the private sector. Therefore various problems are found in independent smallholders, one of which is the discrimination of the price of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) produced by independent smallholders. Price discrimination does not only occur between independent smallholders and plasma farmers, but also occurs between independent smallholders. Data were collected from 240 respondents spread across 12 villages in 3 districts of palm oil production centers. Data were analyzed by quantitative descriptive method and using multiple linear regression analysis models. The results of the study concluded that there were differences in prices around Rp. 300 to Rp. 500 per kg of FFB between prices received by independent smallholders and prices received by plasma farmers and among independent smallholders. The price difference is significantly influenced by the quality factor of the seeds used, the amount of fertilizer use, the experience of farmers in farming and the marketing channels used.

Abstract

Oil palm is the most efficient crop in producing oil than other crops, such as soybean, rapeseed, and sunflower.  However, the oil palm plantation of independent smallholders faced low productivity in terms of input used.  This study aims to determine the production factors that influence independent oil palm smallholders in Kumpeh Sub-district, Muaro Jambi District. This research was conducted in three villages in Kumpeh, namely Mekarsari, Betung, and Seponjen. Samples consisted of 63 smallholders and were taken using the Simple Random Sampling method. The data were analyzed descriptively and subjected to statistical tests of multiple linear regression analysis. The results show an R2 of 0.888, indicating that the model variables can explain 88.8 percent of the oil palm production variation. The F test resulted in a value of 115.299, showing that the production variables together have a real effect on production. Partially, the independent variables that have a real and significant impact on oil palm production at a realistic level (α) of 5 percent are land area, fertilizer, and pesticides. At the same time, labor does not significantly affect palm oil production.

Abstract

Palm oil development provides benefits in increasing the income of smallholders and communities, where palm oil production becomes the raw material of the processing industry that creates added value in the country.  However, the cost and revenue of palm oil farming is a consideration of smallholders in the implementation of replanting.  This research aims to: (1) describe the oil palm farming in Sungai Bahar Sub-District of Muaro Jambi Regency (2) Analyze the cost structure and revenue of smallholder oil palm in Sungai Bahar Sub-district of Muaro Jambi Regency. The scope of this research area is Suka Makmur Village, Marga Mulya Village, Mekar Sari Village, Sungai Bahar District Muaro Jambi Regency. This research was conducted by a descriptive and quantitative method using an analysis of the cost structure and revenue of oil palm smallholders. The results showed a replanting palm oil farm area of 2.13 hectares with palm oil of 7 to 8 years and production of 18,170 Kg/Ha/year.  The cost incurred is Rp 25,647,303/Ha/year, and the revenue amounts to Rp. 33,527,655/Ha/Year.  In the future, although there is still a positive difference between the revenue and cost of farming after the replanting, smallholders are suggested better to optimize the resources as an alternative to increasing revenue to meet the needs.

Abstract

As a producer of rice, Indonesia still import rice to meet domestic rice consumption. This is not appropriate with data that shows that domestic rice production has a surplus. Surplus rice production, the government should be able to meet domestic demand for rice without the need to import rice. Therefore, this study aims to: 1) describe the development of rice imports in Indonesia and the factors that influence them, 2) analyze the factors that influence rice imports in Indonesia. Variables used in this research are inflation, gross domestic product, land area, rice production, direct and indirect consumption, supply of rice, population, domestic rice prices, exchange rate and world rice prices period 1996-2016. The data used are secondary data obtained from FAO, COMTRADE UN, BPS and Directorate General of Food. The analytical method used is an approach using Partial Least Square (PLS). The results showed that rice imports in Indonesia fluctuate tend to increase due to the influence of macroeconomic variables with moderating variables, both directly and indirectly. Macroeconomic variables with moderating variables in rice farming have no significant effect on rice imports. While macroeconomic variables with moderating variables demand for rice significantly influence rice imports. Macroeconomic variables directly influence the import of rice. Abstract

This study aims to 1) study the description of the condition of oil palm rejuvenation using the simultaneous fall and underplanting technique in Sungai Bahar District, and 2) To analyze the factors that influence the decisions of oil palm farmers in replanting. This research was conducted in Suka Makmur and Mekarsari Makmur villages with a total of 30 farmers who did rejuvenation, 30 farmers who did underplanting rejuvenation and 30 farmers who did not replant. Data were analyzed using multinomial regression analysis. The results showed that at the research location two rejuvenation techniques were carried out, namely the simultaneous collapse technique which was funded by BPDPKS and the underplanting technique which was carried out independently by farmers. The simultaneous fall technique is carried out by uprooting all old plants which will be rejuvenated and then replaced with young plants. The underplanting technique is carried out by inserting young plants between old plants and then injecting them with the old plants as a method of gradual felling. The results of the analysis showed that the tendency of farmers to rejuvenate with the simultaneous collapse and underplanting technique was significantly influenced by the age of the farmers, the area of oil palm and the farmers' income at the 95% degree of confidence. The tendency of farmers to choose simultaneous rejuvenation is influenced by age which is 0,541 times smaller, the area of oil palm land is 11,428 times larger and the workforce in the family is 8,757 times greater than that of not doing replanting. The tendency of farmers to choose underplanting rejuvenation is influenced by the age of 0,279 times smaller, the area of oil palm land is 7,851 times larger and the workforce in the family is 2,940 times greater than that of not replanting.
