Abstract

Early and accurate assessment of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is crucial given its fatal complications such as amputation. Infrared thermography (IRT) offers various advantages in studying PAD. This study aims to map the use of Infrared thermography in detecting Peripheral Arterial Disease in diabetic feet. This review applies the scoping review method to review the literature related to Infrared thermography in detecting vascular disorders in diabetic legs. Article searches are conducted on five databases, namely Google Scholar, PubMed, EBSCO, ScienceDirect, and ProQuest. The Boolean keywords and codes used are "Infrared Thermography" AND "Diabetic foot" AND "Peripheral Arterial Disease". Searches are limited to articles published between 2018 and 2024. The journal selection process follows PRISMA's guidelines. The search process yielded 1,969 article titles relevant to the keywords and Boolean operators used. After being selected based on the research topic, 8 articles were left for analysis. IRT can be a useful tool for detecting PAD in diabetic foot. IRT can help track the progression of PAD and classify the foot as PAD without or prone with high accuracy

Abstract

Introductions: Many studies have shown in the field of psychiatry results in specific changes in brain anatomy and function associated with measurable clinical outcomes. One of the biggest difficulties in diagnosing and treating psychiatric disorders is that human behavior involves complex mechanisms when compared to experimental animals. Case: 25-year-old female, diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) 6 months ago at a General Hospital in Malang, Indonesia. The patient felt depressed, had trouble sleeping, and had attempted suicide. MRI of the hippocampus was performed at the power of 3 Tesla magnetic strength (PHILIPS INGENIA 3.0T). MRI data processing and hippocampal volumetric analysis were performed using the volBrain HIPS software. Discussion: The left hippocampus volume was larger than the right volume, with a history of the patient never doing exercise or exercising regularly. In general, the hippocampus can be asymmetrical on both sides and larger on the right side. Although asymmetry in the hippocampus is normal, but there are no studies that say the volume of the left hippocampus is larger than the volume of the right hippocampus in a normal people. Conclusions: a person with depression should be screened and planned for early treatment. In the field of radiology, psychoradiology plays an important role in the main clinical situation in guiding decisions, especially treatment planning, as well as monitoring the results of care carried out in patients with psychiatric disorders.

Abstract

Background: In Indonesia, primary brain tumor incidence reaches 7 per 100,000, with a mortality rate of 4.25 per 100,000 people per year. Histopathology is the gold standard for determining tumor type and degree of aggressiveness. Non-invasive approaches and precision in determining brain tumor grading are essential for management, avoiding less necessary surgical procedures and challenging cases, one of which is MR Spectroscopy. Purpose: To analyze the relationship between Cho/Cr and Cho/NAA's suitability ratio in MRS and the degree of malignancy in histopathology and investigate the influence of differences in Cho/Cr, Cho/NAA ratio, and lactate lipid peaks in MRS on the degree of malignancy in histopathology in primary brain tumors. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 17 patients with high and low-grade brain tumors using an observational study with a cross-sectional study design. We measured the Cho/Cr and Cho/NAA ratios and identified the Lipid Lactate peak on the homogenous contrast enhancement area with the highest Cho area. We conducted data analysis using McNemar's test and independent t- test. Result: Statistical analysis showed no significant difference in the ratio of Cho/Cr, Cho/NAA, and lactate lipids (p > 0.05), and this study obtained the suitability of the MRS indicator with histopathological results in Cho/NAA with p = 0.219 (p > 0.05) with an accuracy of 65%. Conclusion: The Cho/NAA ratio's conformity in determining the degree of brain tumor compared to histopathological results with an accuracy of 65%. Further research with a larger sample is necessary for the results to be more optimal

Abstract

Background: Chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) is still a significant public health problem, especially in developing countries. Eustachian tube dysfunction is one of the factors that influence the occurrence of CSOM. The pathogenesis of acute and chronic otitis media is initiated by negative pressure in the middle ear. One theory of the event of CSOM is the continuum theory. The eustachian tube as one of the factors that influence the occurrence of CSOM has been proven from various studies comparing CSOM patients and the average population and CSOM with and without cholesteatoma. With the advanced technology, CT scan helps diagnose pathological conditions in the ear as a diagnostic tool and evaluation modality. CT scan imaging with a multiplanar reconstruction technique can provide a clear image of the anatomical shape of the Eustachian tube. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between the angle and length of the Eustachian tube in the ear with CSOM and the contralateral ear's angle and length. Method: An analytic study with a cross-sectional design involving 30 samples of CSOM patients with the contralateral ear. The measurement of the angle and length of the Eustachian tube using the multiplanar HRCT temporal reconstruction technique. Result: Statistical analysis with paired t-test showed that the Eustachian tube angle was significantly more horizontal in the CSOM ear than the contralateral ear (p<0.05). Eustachian tube length was shorter in CSOM than contralateral (p<0.05). Conclusion: The angle of the eustachian tube in the CSOM ear is smaller (more horizontal) and shorter than the contralateral ear.

Abstract

Introduction: Typical meningiomas are benign tumors, while atypical and anaplastic ones tend to be malignant. Typical meningiomas are mostly detected in women who are 40 years of age, presenting with minimal peritumoral edema and homogeneous enhancement. Atypical meningiomas increased in men who are more than 60 years of age, exhibiting severe peritumoral edema, heterogeneous enhancement, large sizes, and low ADC values. Most anaplastic meningioma cases occur, but rarely, in children, which are highly invasive, growing rapidly, destroying calvarial bone, and have a giant intracranial tumor that invades the extracranial soft tissue and forms a cutaneous mass. Case Presentation: A 37-, 39-, and 15-year-old female patients were presented. There was blurred vision in the right eye, difficulties in communicating, and headaches for 2 years in the first case; vertigo and headaches for a year in the second case; and headaches, vertigo, and blurred vision for 2 years in the last case, growing more severe in the recent month. Based on MRI, the first patient had an extra-axial homogeneous mass with minimal peritumoral edema, homogeneous enhancement consistent with the appearance of typical falx meningioma; the second case had an extra-axial heterogeneous mass with necrotic component, severe peritumoral edema, and heterogeneous enhancement on the right temporoparietal region consistent with the appearance atypical meningioma; the last case had an extra-axial heterogeneous giant mass with necrotic component, severe peritumoral edema, and heterogeneous enhancement on right frontal region based on CT and MRI. CTA showed increased internal vascularity inside and adjacent to the lesion, and the bone window showed erosion and thinning of the calvarial bone, consistent with the appearance of anaplastic falx meningioma of the malignant characteristics. Conclusion: Age, gender, tumor size, peritumoral edema severity, degree of enhancement, restriction on DWI, vascularity, and hyperostosis or erosion of bone can distinguish between benign and malignant meningioma. Keywords: typical meningioma, atypical meningioma, anaplastic meningioma.

Abstract

Müllerian duct anomalies encompass a range of conditions that can lead to primary amenorrhea, infertility, and complications during pregnancy. Uterus didelphys arise when the Müllerian ducts fail to fuse properly to form a single uterus. In contrast, a septate uterus occurs when the central septum between the ducts fails to resorb. We describe three cases: the first involves a 14-year-old girl experiencing lower abdominal pain and secondary amenorrhea; MRI revealed a completely septate uterus with OHVIRA. The second case is a 27-year-old woman with secondary amenorrhea and primary infertility, who also had a complete septate uterus on MRI. The third case concerns a 17-year-old girl with primary amenorrhea, whose MRI showed uterus didelphys and a single left kidney. Müllerian duct anomalies are present in up to 7% of women, and about one-third of these women also have renal anomalies. Septate uterus is the most common type of Müllerian anomaly, while uterus didelphys is relatively rare. A complete septate uterus with obstructed hemivagina and an associated renal anomaly is particularly uncommon. Advances in diagnostic and surgical methods aim to preserve or enhance reproductive potential. Keywords: Uterus didelphys, septate uterus, OHVIRA

Abstract

Tuberculosis is a contagious disease and is one of the ten leading causes of death in the world. Abnormalities in the hematology system, such as anemia, become one of the complications due to tuberculosis infection. The erythrocyte index becomes a benchmark for determining anemia based on its size and appearance. In tuberculosis patients, tuberculosis lesions can be seen in a thorax radiography examination. Therefore, the objective of this study was to determine the correlation between the erythrocyte index and the extent of tuberculosis lesions in thorax radiography. This study was an observational study using the cross-sectional method by taking 61 samples of patients' medical records in Saiful Anwar Hospital, which was conducted from January 2022 to December 2023. In this study, data obtained that MCV, MCH, and MCHC, which included in erythrocyte index value, did not have a correlation with the extent of tuberculosis lesion (p=0.656, p=0.484 and p=0.953, respectively, using Kruskal Wallis method). This could occur because tuberculosis patients only experienced anemia with a reduced number of erythrocytes without affecting their size and appearance. The conclusion of this study is that the erythrocyte index does not have a correlation with the extent of tuberculosis lesions.

Abstract

Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is an inflammation of the nasal mucosa and paranasal sinuses, persisting for over12 weeks. CRS involves a remodeling process and opacification known as osteitis, resulting from type 2 and non-type two inflammation. Osteitis severity is assessed using CT scans and the Global Osteitis Scoring Scale (GOSS). Bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2) is crucial in osteogenesis and bone remodeling. However, no research has shown a relationship between BMP-2 concentration and osteitis degree, as measured by GOSS, in CRS patients with or without nasal polyps. The objective of this study is to analyze the relationship between BMP-2 concentration and osteitis degree measure with GOSS in primary CRS. A cross-sectional analytic observational study was conducted using primary RSK as the study population. BMP-2 concentration, a marker for bone remodeling, used ELISA. The osteitis of the paranasal sinus walls was assessed with a CT scan and quantified using the GOSS method.  The study included 44 patients, with 8 of them serving as the control group. It was found that BMP-2 concentration (ng/mL) had a linear relationship with the GOSS degree in patients with CRS, showing a correlation of 0.583 (deviation >0.05). Further analysis revealed a significant correlation between BMP-2 concentration and GOSS, with a coefficient of 0.857 (considered very significant, in the range of 0.76-0.99). This strong correlation indicates that as BMP-2 concentration strongly correlates with the occurance of osteitis, which were measured by GOSS. BMP-2, as a marker for osteitis in CRS, shows a significant and linear correlation with the severity degree of osteitis measured by GOSS.

Abstract

Background: Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is a chronic inflammatory disease accompanied by changes in particular haematological parameters within the blood. The changes in the composition of blood cells can be potential biomarkers to assist tuberculosis diagnosis beside using clinical, microbiological, and radiological tools. Platelets play a vital part in chronic inflammation since they contain different sorts of mediators that are involved in lung damage which is reflected in the extent of lesions on radiological examination. Aim: The research aims to compare the platelets level between minimal/moderate versus extensive lesions in the patient with TB. Methods: The research was a retrospective, cross-sectional study of patients with pulmonary tuberculosis who were treated at Saiful Anwar Hospital from January 2022 to December 2023. The results of the research were analyzed using the Chi-Square method. Results: Patients with extensive pulmonary TB lesions have platelet levels that tend to be high, in contrast to patients with minimal/moderate pulmonary TB lesions tend to have low platelet levels. Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between platelet levels and the extent of pulmonary tuberculosis lesions.
