Abstract

Green beans are the most important food crop in Indonesia and production continues to increase to meet domestic demand. However, production is still insufficient due to several risks faced by farmers. This research analyzes the risk management of green bean production in Gluranploso Village using the Coefficient of Variation (KV) and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) methods. The results showed that yield variation was relatively low with a KV value of 17%, indicating good yield stability. The FMEA analysis identified four main sources of risk affecting production: seed aspect with an RPN value of 5.808, weather with an RPN value of 7.04, pests and diseases with an RPN value of 12.936, and technical aspects with an RPN value of 47.88, particularly delays in pest and disease control spraying. In addition, the market aspect is also a source of risk with the largest value in the increase in production input prices at 12.288. These sources require special attention in risk management. The study concludes that the implementation of appropriate risk management strategies, focusing on the identified key risk sources, can help farmers improve yield stability and farm profitability. These strategies include improving seed quality, mitigating weather risks, controlling pests and diseases, and improving technical procedures in cultivation and market risks. Thus, effective risk management can be key in increasing the productivity and sustainability of green bean farming in Gluranploso village.

Abstract

Corn is one of the food commodities traded globally as food, feed and biofuel commodities. Global demand for corn will tend to increase from year to year considering the multifunctional uses of corn. Climate change also take part in decreasing global production. Producer countries, namely China, America, and Brazil, suffered severe drought in 2020. It had impact in global corn market since the low of production. Globally, corn is used as food, but Indonesia imports corn as feed. Therefore, the price of corn in the global market is of concern to the Indonesian government. Fluctuations alone are not enough to describe the movement of corn prices, it is necessary to do a volatility analysis to find out how much uncertainty corn prices are in the global market. This study aims to determine the volatility of corn prices in the world market. The data used is secondary data obtained from the World Bank's Pink Sheet Data from 1960 to 2020. This study uses the econometric method using the ARIMA (Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average) and ARCH GARCH (Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity-Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity) model. The results showed that corn prices were volatile most of the year from 1960 to 2020.

Abstract

Introduction: World crude oil prices are linked to food commodity prices as input costs for the production distribution and development of biofuels. The relationship between increasing crude oil prices and food prices is in one way; i.e. an increase in world crude oil prices will trigger an increase in food prices and not the other way around. This study aimed to analyze and compare price transmission and integration of cross-commodity prices between the price of crude oil and the price of corn (raw material for biofuels) and the price of rice (non biofuels raw material). Methods: This study used the VARX (Vector Autoregression with Exogenous variables) method with corn prices and rice prices as the endogenous variables, while crude oil prices as exogenous variables. Results: Price transmission and integration of cross-commodity prices occur in crude oil to corn commodities. In contrast, there was no price transmission and price integration between crude oil and rice. Commodities that are directly related to the development of biofuels experience a more significant impact on price changes. Conclusion: Energy commodity prices are connected to food commodity prices, particularly corn. Therefore, if crude oil price rises, so does the corn. Highly dependent corn-importing countries have to be aware. Measures engendering food security are key to any country, particularly promoting domestic production and improving food storage and distribution systems to reduce the risk of food price spikes. The policy implications emerging from the one-directional causality between oil and food prices would typically depend on the specific nature of the two markets and the goals of policy intervention.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Fresh Food of Plant Origin (PSAT) is an important commodity that supports national food security and has a strategic role in meeting the nutritional needs of the community. As an agrarian country, Indonesia has great potential in the development of PSAT, but challenges such as land conversion, price fluctuations, and low productivity are still obstacles. This study aims to analyze the development and prospects of Fresh Food of Plant Origin (PSAT) commodities in Indonesia with a focus on strategic commodities, namely rice, corn, and soybeans. The method used includes time series data analysis with the ARIMA model to predict PSAT production trends until 2045. PSAT commodities include rice, corn and soybeans. The secondary data analyzed includes production data from 2002 to 2022 obtained from 34 provinces in Indonesia. The results of the study show that the distribution of PSAT commodities in Indonesia when viewed from the production of areas that have an increasing development tendency throughout 2019-2022 is the Java archipelago. The results of the development trend and prospects of PSAT commodities in Indonesia based on ARIMA analysis stated that the forecast for PSAT commodity production from 2022-2045 continues to increase, especially in rice and corn commodities. Therefore, strategic policies such as land protection, provision of agricultural technology, and improvement of distribution efficiency are needed to ensure the sustainability of PSAT production.
