Abstract

Natural substances are used instead of synthetic chemicals in organic farming, which eschews the use of synthetic insecticides, fertilizers, and plant growth regulators. The purpose of this study is to (1) Identify the role of farmer groups in the development of organic vegetable businesses; and (2) analyze factors that affect the performance of organic vegetable farmer groups.   Technique sampling set is 40 farmers Respondents were selected purposively, taking into account capacity and capability.  Qualitative descriptive analysis and SEM-PLS, two data analysis techniques, are being applied. The findings of this study demonstrate how well-suited a farmer organization to play a role in organic vegetable production from upstream to downstream.  External factor variables have a positive effect on performance variables but are not significant. This is due to the relatively low capacity of farmer group members due to low education. On the other hand, land size, member involvement, production facilities and member access all have an influence on community performance.  The influence of community competence on performance reveals that the initial sample value, 1.146, is positive. This value indicates that there is a favorable association between the competency variable and community performance. However, when linked to the role of the group in terms of marketing access, there is still a need for additional knowledge, skills, and farmers are still very dependent on community leaders for the sale of crops, which has an impact on the fighting power of farmers.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze food security in East Java Province using a quantitative spatial approach and statistical projection. Secondary data from 2019 to 2023 were obtained from BPS (Statistics Indonesia), BKP (Food Security Agency), and the Ministry of Agriculture, covering indicators of food availability, accessibility, and utilization. The analysis was conducted using ArcGIS software for map visualization and the Single Exponential Smoothing (SES) method for projecting the Food Security Index for 2024. Spatial analysis revealed disparities in food security across regions: northern and western districts tend to be classified as "very resilient," while eastern regions and Madura Island, such as Bangkalan and Bondowoso, remain in the "resilient" category with high vulnerability levels. The 2024 Food Security Index projection presents three scenarios: optimistic (91.62), moderate (82.94), and pessimistic (73.91). Food security is strongly influenced by poverty, low Farmer’s Terms of Trade (NTP), limited infrastructure, and dependence on rice commodities. This study emphasizes the importance of data-driven policies, strengthening food distribution systems, investing in women’s education, and utilizing geospatial technology for monitoring and mitigating food crises. These findings reinforce the view that high food production alone does not guarantee food security without equitable access and adequate nutritional utilization. The study provides a foundation for formulating sustainable food security strategies aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 2.

Abstract

Indonesia is an agricultural nation that produces a wide range of goods and agricultural goods. Tuberose blooms are one of the agricultural products with a high market value. Because tuberose flowers have a unique scent, there is a lot of market interest in and demand for them. To satisfy these needs and expectations, the appropriate marketing plan is required. This study is to define the features of tuberose flowers and assess the viability of farming in order to ascertain the challenges farmers encounter when trying to market their goods. It will also investigate the impact of tuberose flower costs, demand, and production. The study was carried out in Pasuruan, East Java, in Pekoren Village, Rembang District, from March to September of 2024. This research employs a descriptive methodology that combines farming observation and analysis. It is well known that the age group of 51 to 60 years old accounts for 32% of the characteristics depending on age. The R/C score of 3.75 indicates that growing tuberose is both possible and profitable.

Abstract

Food diversification is one of the efforts to ensure and maintain a balanced availability of food for each staircase. High dependence on rice causes the level of food diversification in East Java to be low. This study aims to take into account the level of household food diversification in East Java. How food diversification is assessed using the Shannon-Wiener Index, with secondary data from BPS East Java in 2022 covering 14 food groups such as rice, tubers, fish, vegetables, and fruits. The results of the study show that the level of food diversification in East Java is in the medium category, with a diversification index of 2.3. Food groups such as fishery products (21%) and processed foods/beverages (19%) dominate public consumption, while oil and coconut (2%) and other consumption (2%) are still relatively low. Geographical, cultural, and urbanization factors influence the dynamics of consumption patterns. However, uneven distribution is one of the obstacles to increasing food diversification, especially for local agricultural products such as vegetables and fruits. The main solutions proposed to increase food diversification include the socialization of diverse food consumption and the empowerment of local food-based MSMEs. These measures are expected to increase food variety and strengthen food security in East Java. In addition, other solutions that can be considered include the development of local flour-based food products, public education about the benefits of local food, the development of agricultural technology, infrastructure improvement, and the use of home yards to grow various types of food crops.

Abstract

Improving the technical efficiency of cassava is essential, as it enhances resource use, boosts, and drives broader economic growth. This study aimed to estimate the technical efficiency of cassava production as a contribution to food security, job creation, and sustainable agriculture-based development. Trenggalek Regency was chosen as the research location, considering that the regency is in the centre of cassava production in East Java Province, as a key factor in achieving sustainable agricultural development. The data were obtained through interviews with 70 cassava farmers, selected using stratified random sampling across two sub-districts. The data used in this study were primary and secondary data, while the data analysis used the stochastic frontier production function. The results of the study on the efficiency of production factors include land area (89.31), cassava seeds (5.36), labour (34.20), NPK fertiliser (6.70), KCL fertiliser (0.69), SP36 fertiliser (0.51), urea fertiliser (-0.49), and pesticide (-0.09). In general, cassava farming in Trenggalek Regency is not technically efficient in utilising production factors. In fact, technical efficiency is an important factor that needs to be considered, and there is great potential to increase cassava production through efficiency improvements. Therefore, interventions are needed to improve the technical efficiency of cassava farming through intensive counselling and training programs, appropriate input use, technological development, and improved access to capital, aiming to positively impact farmers` income, food security, and sustainable agricultural development.
