Abstract

Abstract

ABSTRACT It is projected that the spread of disinformation infodemic among the COVID-19 pandemic will be as quickly or even more rapidly than the virus itself. The absence of the government in quickly and accurately providing information is suspected of being the basis of this phenomenon. Several studies have attempted to examine how the disinformation is shared, absorbed and driven to other behaviors. Meanwhile, no preliminary study maps the features of disinformation to be used practically for prevention and for overcoming disinformation itself. This study aims to fill this gap by examining 174 disinformation during the pandemic of COVID-19. There are five types of COVID-19 disinformation in Indonesia, namely governance, health, foreign relations, business and crime. We argue that if these five categories are not taken seriously, they will create a public distrust of government and science. Another result that arises is the apathy towards the virus which will endanger the wider community. On the basis of these results, we propose a strict government intervention in the provision of knowledge and clarification of disinformation in different forms of social media.

Abstract

This study aimed to identify the responses and strategies of higher education in Indonesia in dealing with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The data in this study came from several legal frameworks and news issued by relevant ministries as well as regulations and news released by universities which were analyzed to map how universities adapt to the COVID-19 situation. In addition, interview to faculty members, students and administrative staffs were also conducted. This study found that the relevant ministries responded no faster than the responses made by universities. The ministry has provided a series of regulations and also guidelines but unfortunately, the universities have published these things first. This research is an initial study to identify responses, obstacles to providing education, and research and community service in the COVID-19 era. This research is the first to investigate how universities conduct the three main tasks of the university in Indonesia investigating responses at the organizational and individual levels to identify responses and obstacles they find.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the influence of expectations on vaccines, trust in government, perceived threats, and information overload to cognitive dissonance and its implications for vaccine use, behavioral negotiation, and information avoidance. After we formulated eight hypotheses, all of them was tested using the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) method. This study involved 173 community members to fill out a questionnaire with 31 questions. The results showed that expectations of vaccines and information overload affected cognitive dissonance. In contrast, the perceived threat due to the COVID-19 pandemic and trust in the government did not affect cognitive dissonance. We also found that cognitive dissonance negatively and significantly affected vaccine use and positively and significantly affected behavior to continue negotiating and avoiding information related to COVID-19 vaccination. This study is among the first to examine members of the anti-vaccine community quantitatively and practically attempts to intervene in the anti-vaccine community so that they are cognitively dissonant are to increase expectations of vaccination and confuse them by presenting the information overload they receive.

Abstract

Most studies on image restoration concentrate on text analysis of firms and CEOs in the Western context; hence, there is a need to explore similar practices in public organisations or public officials in an Eastern context. This study intends to investigate tactics and methods for repairing the image of public officials in eastern nations, including Indonesia, to fill this void. Visual and thematic analysis was performed on a dataset containing 2,000 Instagram posts from seven public officials in Indonesia. According to our findings, the visual analysis identifies six content kinds, while the thematic analysis identifies ten content types. They constitute image restoration methods, such as compensation, bolstering, corrective action, and shifting the blame, and image recovery strategies, such as reducing offensiveness of event, corrective action, and denial. This study reveals that, contrary to western literature, public authorities in Indonesia tend to employ the method of minimising the offensiveness of an occurrence.

Many studies have explored public sector innovation, especially in normal circumstances. While studies on the public sector innovation in a critical situation have not caught much attention from academics. There was a total of 16 innovations in this study. Content analysis was conducted to determine the types, categories, innovators, and challenges faced. The researchers found that the organizations that innovate (innovators) consisted of city governments, regency governments, provincial governments, central government representatives, and the community. Meanwhile, for the innovation category, the researchers found more innovations with types of public services and health information. The researchers also found three types of innovation categories in South Sumatra including mass/social resilience, quick response/quick wins, and public knowledge. Lastly, the challenges in implementing the innovation which includes public awareness, human resources, financial, facilities and infrastructure, and time. Academically, this study contributes to the understanding of public sector innovation in a critical situation, that innovation in such condition is an innovation that was made for pragmatic purposes and it won’t last. Abstract

This study investigates how different facets of social capital affect community resilience in The face of disasters. There has not been a thorough study that examines social capital across various types of frequently occurring disasters and across the different phases of a disaster, that is, pre-disaster, during disaster, and post-disaster. Previous research on social capital has been conducted in both developed and developing countries using various disaster cases. To synthesize previous research, identify knowledge gaps, and set the course for future research, this study used a literature review technique. This method is both methodical and rigorous. The current analysis found a rising trend in the amount of research on the use of social capital in disaster management, demonstrating a growing interest in the function of social capital in boosting community resilience in the face of disasters. The findings of this study showed that community resilience in disaster management is influenced by social capital components. The study found that the trust and network components of social capital—which include trust, beliefs, norms, rules, networks, and values—have the greatest effects on community resilience. Greater knowledge of the function of social capital in disaster management and the aspects of social capital that are most important for fostering community resilience are provided by these results, which have a substantial impact on future research and disaster management methods.

Abstract

This community service intends to educate MSME actors in Pelabuhan Dalam Village, Ogan Ilir Regency about how to combat the COVID-19 epidemic through the use of creativity, innovation, and digital transformation. The program was separated into three stages: identification and analysis of problems, coaching and evaluation. The problem identification and analysis process involved interviews with community various stakeholders and village government officials, and revealed five major issues: a lack of public understanding of entrepreneurship development, a lack of innovation and technological use, difficulties with promotion (marketing), limited human resources and low quality, and low management quality. Coaching is conducted by the provision of three materials: creativity, innovation, and digital transformation, which comprise an understanding of the situation, as well as solutions and development strategies. Then, after comparing the data before and after coaching, it was established that there is now a gain in understanding about creativity, innovation, and digital transformation necessary for MSMEs to survive the COVID-19 pandemic before and after the program.
