Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease caused by bacteria, namely Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) and needanti-TB drugs (ATD) treatment. The success of ATD therapy is influenced by various factors, including ADRs and their management, which play a role in treatment and retention in care. The frequency and severity of ADRs caused by ATD are always a concern, especially in children. The study aims to determine the prevalence of ADRs, determine the management and outcome of ADR treatment in pediatric TB patients at the Tegal Regency Community Health Center. This study used a cross-sectional design in  pediatric TB patients aged 0-18 years. This study showed The most frequent ADRs were gastrointestinal disturbances (16.7%), joint pain (8.3%), peripheral neuropathy (6.7%), and flu-like syndrome (6.7%). The ADR event category is likely to have a percentage of 91% of the overall number of events, followed by the possibility with a percentage of 9% of events. Management strategies, including vitamin B complex supplementation, antacids, multivitamins, probiotics, antipyretics, and topical agents, effectively reduced or eliminated ADRs. The most common ADRs werw gastrointestinal disorders, joint pain and flu syndrome. Management of ADRs related to anti-tuberculosis drugs (ATD) has been successful in reducing or eliminating ADRs. Special attention from healthcare workers should be given to patients at spesific risk groups for ADR management to improve therapy success.

Abstract

Pharmacists have an important role to play in the safe use of antibiotics and there appears to be no research evaluating pharmacists' knowledge, attitudes, and practices towards antibiotics and antibiotic resistance in Indonesia. An assessment of pharmacists' knowledge, practices and attitudes about antibiotics and their resistance will be useful to identify problems to create effective interventions. The databases used in the literature search are Google Scholar, Pubmed, and ScienceDirect, with inclusion criteria including the year of journal publication from 2010 to 2024, full text, the research sample is pharmacist, the research uses questionnaires, and the method used is cross-sectional, focusing on pharmaceutical knowledge, attitudes, and behaviours on the use of antibiotics. The exclusion criteria include duplication, not full text, inappropriate titles, samples taken that are not pharmacists or included other than pharmacists, only including 1 or 2 of the 3 bound variables, namely knowledge, attitudes, and behaviours, the methods used are not cross-sectional, do not use questionnaires, and files cannot be opened. (n=769) 10 literature met the inclusion criteria, and 8 out of 10 literature stated that sociodemographic factors, namely age, gender, place of residence, employment status, length of work, level of education, and the number of antibiotics administered, affected the knowledge, attitude, and behaviour of pharmacists towards the use of antibiotics without a prescription. 8 out of 10 literature is declared to be of good quality. The results of these 10 kinds of literature for the percentage of pharmacists who have good knowledge are 40%-90% of the sample, the percentage of a good attitude is 50%-90%, and the percentage of good behaviour is 20%-60%. Sociodemographic factors influence the knowledge, attitudes, and behaviours of pharmacists towards the use of antibiotics without prescriptions.

Abstract

Dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF) cases are still high in America and Asia region, including Indonesia. Eradication of DHF can be done by larvacide. Temephos 1%, chemical larvacide used in Indonesia for decades, can cause environment degradation and allergic reaction in human. Papaya stem extract as biolarvacide contains saponins, tannins, alkaloids, flavonoids, papain and essential oils which have larvicidal activity. It can be applicable in all over the world. This study was conducted to determine the better suspending agent between CMC or PEG of papaya stem extract to kill Aedes aegypti larvae. Objective: To determine the better suspending agent to kill Aedes aegypti larvae. Method: This study was true experimental study in laboratory, used post-test only controlled group design. This study used samples consist of Aedes aegypti instar III-IV larvae. There were seven experimental groups, consist of positive control group, negative control group for CMC, negative control group for PEG, extract concentration of 1.5% with CMC suspending agent, extract concentration of 1.5% with PEG suspending agent, extract concentration of 2% with CMC suspending agent, extract concentration of 2% with PEG suspending agent. Each group was repeated 4 times and counted every 6 hours (6th, 12th, 18th, 24th). Data analysis using the SPSS application ver 23. Probit test used to determine the effectiveness of the larvacide, LC50 and LT50 to determine the concentration and time to kill 50% of Aedes aegypti larvae. It used Kruskal Wallis Test to compare four dependent groups. It used Mann Whitney Test to compare the differences of each group. Result: The study showed that LC50 PEG was 0.033%, LC50 CMC was 0.321%, LT50 (PEG+1.5%) was 20.8 hours, LT50 (PEG+2%) was 30.7 hours, LT50 (CMC+1.5%) was 23.5 hours, LT50 (CMC+2%) was 40.7 hours. Based on the probit test, the LC50 and LT50 results showed that papaya stem methanol extract with PEG suspending agent was more effective than CMC suspending agent, it needed lower concentration and lower time to kill 50% of larvae. Kruskall Wallis Test result p<0.05, so there was significantly difference between groups. Post hoc Mann-Whitney Test result p<0.05 between C(-) PEG group with P1, P2, P3, P4 and between C(-) CMC group with P1, P2, P3, P4, so there was significantly difference between C(-) PEG with each group and C(-) CMC with each group. Conclusion: It can be concluded that papaya stem methanol extract with PEG suspending agent was more effective than CMC suspending agent to kill Aedes aegypti larvae.
