Abstract

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is one of the third leading causes of death in the world. Correct use of inhalers is important in the pharmacological treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Choosing the most appropriate inhaler for the patient is likely to influence attitudes, increase adherence to therapy, and have therapeutic benefits. This literature review aims to examine the preferences and satisfaction of COPD patients with Genuair inhalers. A literature search was carried out using the Pubmed, ProQuest, Google Scholar, European Respiratory Journal and Sciencedirect databases with literature limitations from 2012 to 2022, with inclusion criteria a). English articles b). patients diagnosed with COPD c). using a genuair/pressair inhaler to produce 772 journals. Then a selection process was carried out and 14 journals were obtained. Based on the results of the literature review, it is known that eight studies show that Genuair is preferred by COPD patients. Each inhaler has advantages and disadvantages that can have an impact on use, patient satisfaction and adherence to therapy which can affect clinical outcomes. The Genuair inhaler is designed to provide multi-sensory feedback, a trigger threshold function to prevent double dosing and a lock-out mechanism to prevent overuse of the inhaler after the last dose has been used. The Genuair inhaler is suitable for COPD patients, especially for those who are less compliant with medication due to breathing difficulties.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a disease characterized by hyperglycemia and disturbances in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins associated with absolute or relative deficiencies of insulin action and or secretion. The main problem for DM sufferers is that more than 50% of diabetic patients do not know about the disease and its complications, so patients will return to the hospital with high blood glucose levels accompanied by various complications. The study aims to determine the factors that can cause complications in patients with diabetes mellitus. This research is a non-experimental study with a cross-sectional approach. The data were analyzed using SPSS with a Chi-square or Kruskal-Wallis and multivariate logistic regression test. Body mass index and duration of diabetes are significantly associated with the incidence of complications (p-value 0.05). Patients with an abnormal body mass index are 4.184x more at risk of complications than patients with a normal body mass index (RR 4.184 CI 1.581 – 11.070). In addition, patients with diabetes duration ≥5 years were 4.121 times more at risk of complications than patients with diabetes durations 5 years (RR 4.121 CI 1.570 – 10.816). The most common complication suffered by diabetic patients in this study was hypertension in 46 patients (41%), and the most common therapeutic regimen received by patients was oral hypoglycemia in 50 patients (52%).

Abstract

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease that must be treated in the long term. One of the therapeutic efficacy factors in tuberculosis treatment is medication adherence by patients. Non-compliance to treatment leads to no achievement of treatment goals, increasing the risk of resistance, mortality, and morbidity. This study analyzed association factors that predicted the influence of the pulmonary tuberculosis patient’s non-adherence to anti-tuberculosis medicines in Surakarta Central General Hospital, Indonesia. The research was analytical research with a cross-sectional approach. The study samples were 80 respondents. The inclusion criteria were patients diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis in Surakarta Central General Hospital, aged >17 years old, and patients who received Anti-Tuberculosis Drugs for at least two months. This study used a questionnaire that has been validated. Data were analyzed by bivariate analysis (chi-square or Fisher) and continued by multivariate logistic analysis. Of 80 respondents, there were 30 respondents (37.5%) were non-adherence to taking Tuberculosis (TB) drugs. The predicted factors that influenced non-adherence in taking anti-tuberculosis drugs were beliefs about the medicine of the harm subscale (p = 0.001; OR = 8.167), suffering from drug side effects (p = 0.022; OR = 4.222), and beliefs about the medicine of overuse subscale (p = 0.038; OR = 3.504). The wrong beliefs of patients and side effects may influence patients’ adherence to TB medicines. Counseling and education are needed to improve patients’ beliefs and manage medicines’ side effects.

Abstract

DAGUSIBU (DApatkan, GUnakan, SImpan, BUang) is a program initiated by pharmacists to improve the general community so that people can know how to get medicine, store, and dispose of drugs that are no longer used properly. The inappropriate use of drugs by the community is because of the lack of knowledge and information about the correct use of drugs. Therefore, efforts are needed to increase public knowledge through educational activities. This activity was conducted using the socialization method through counseling and distributing brochures containing knowledge about DAGUSIBU. Respondents filled out the questionnaire twice, namely before and after counseling. Data were analyzed descriptively and analytically with the Wilcoxon test because the data were not normally distributed. A total of 65 participants participated in this activity, with the age of the participants ranging from 21-60 years, the majority of education levels were Senior High School (SMA), as much as 45%, and 68% were homemakers. Statistical results showed a significant increase in knowledge between before and after counseling (p-value<0.05). So it can be concluded that counseling can increase appropriate knowledge about obtaining, using, storing, and disposing of drugs.

Abstract

Background: Drug incompatibility can occur in patients in hospital who receive one or more drugs at the same time due to incompatible drug mixing, and the mixture is said to be incompatible if there are precipitates, crystals, visual color changes. This research aims to determine the relationship between nurses' knowledge of incompatibility in mixing intravenous drug preparations, so that collaboration between nurses and pharmacists can occur in administering intravenous drugs and can reduce the occurrence of medication errors, especially when administering intravenous drugs. Subjects and Method: Cross sectional research was conducted in RSUD dr. Soeselo, Tegal, Central Java, November 2023. The research subjects were 152 nurses selected using purposive sampling technique. The dependent variable is knowledge. The independent variables are age, gender, length of work, duration of work, and training. Data was collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using multiple linear regression. Results: The number of survey respondents in this study was 152 people, with the majority being 73.7% female and 26.3% male. The average value of the nurses' age was 31.82 ± SD 5.09 and 6.14 ± SD 3.26 for the length of work of the nurses who took part in this study, and the average duration of work was 10.08 ± 2.00. In the multivariate analysis test, gender, last education, duration of work, length of work, age on knowledge had a p value of >0.005 so there was no significant effect. Conclusion: The majority of nurses still have a poor level of knowledge <75% on several questionnaire items. Apart from that, this research shows that there are still many nurses who do not understand intravenous stability and the stages of intravenous administration, which is shown in the question scores. So the role of clinical pharmacy in monitoring and providing education regarding nurse training regarding drug incompatibility is needed.
