Abstract

Waste Cooking Oil (WCO) is one of hazardous waste causes serious issues, including environmental and health issues. WCO can be utilized in several bioproducts to reduce the potential of its problems. The purpose of this study is to create teaching-learning sequences from the context of utilization of waste cooking oil into soap. The teaching-learning sequences can be used as a basis to construct lesson design or teaching materials with project-based learning model. This is in line with curriculum in Indonesia known as “Kurikulum Merdeka” for a program called “Projek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila (P5)”. This research used Qualitative Content Analysis as a method with four stages including material collection, descriptive analysis, category selection, and material evaluation. Data were collected through fourteen literatures analysis and expert validation. Validation experts are from an experienced chemistry teacher and two lecturers from chemistry education field. Validation results the teaching-learning sequences’ is suitable for use for learning activity in terms of content. The result of this study is a teaching-learning sequences which divided into four sections including: (A) The Phenomenon of Waste Cooking Oil, (B) The Composition of Waste Cooking Oil and The Utilization of Waste Cooking Oil, (C) The Soap Making Process with WCO, and (D) The Benefit of WCO Utilization into Soap.

Abstract

This study aims to develop teaching-learning sequences (TLS) in the context of edible coatings for fruits and vegetables that integrate Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in economic, environmental, and social aspects. TLS can be applied to create lesson plans or teaching materials in chemistry learning. This research used Qualitative Content Analysis, following four key stages: material collection, descriptive analysis, category selection, and material evaluation. Data were gathered from the analysis of fifty-eight literature sources and validated by five experts in terms of content validity. Validation experts are experienced four lecturers from chemistry education field and one doctoral student. The results of this research are as follows: TLS divided into four sections, postharvest losses, edible coating materials, preparation and characterization of edible coatings, and potential edible coatings to support sustainable living based on SDG-related points Zero Hunger (SDG 2), Good Health and Well-Being (SDG 3), Quality Education (SDG 4), Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9), Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12), Climate Action (SDG 13), and Life on Land (SDG 15). The validation confirmed that the TLS content is appropriate for chemistry learning with ESD content

Abstract

This study aims to identify the learning obstacles experienced by preservice chemistry teachers in studying the biodiesel topic in the energy section. The research method employed is qualitative descriptive, with the instrument is interview guide sheet. Participants in this study were students of the program study of Chemistry Education. The result of the interviews with prospective chemistry teachers reveals that the primary learning obstacle related to the biodiesel topic are epistemological learning obstacle, with many students struggling to understand and apply concepts in depth. While students generally grasp the basic differences between renewable and non-renewable energy and the benefits of biodiesel, they lack detailed knowledge about biodiesel production processes and potential feedstocks. Additionally, there is a reliance on provided materials and insufficient initiative in seeking additional information. To address these challenges, it is essential to design more structured in learning experiences

Abstract

This study aims to investigate students’ learning obstacles in understanding Green Chemistry within the context of a soap-making activity. As sustainability becomes an increasingly important issue in science education, it is essential to understand how students engage with environmentally oriented chemistry concepts. This study employs qualitative case study approach. The participants consisted of five grade XI students (second-year high school), comprising two boys and three girls. The interviews were conducted at a private school in Bandung. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with five main questions. The responses were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify key themes related to students’ learning challenges in understanding green chemistry, which were categorized into five main themes. The findings reveal that students face significant challenges in understanding Green Chemistry, particularly due to abstract concepts, limited classroom engagement, and teacher-centered instruction. Moreover, students often struggle to connect the theoretical principles of Green Chemistry with real-life applications, such as waste reduction or the use of renewable materials in everyday chemical processes. These findings highlight the importance of designing more interactive, context-based, and student-centered learning strategies. It is expected that the results of this study can serve as a foundation for developing instructional designs that better support students’ understanding of sustainability-oriented chemistry.

Abstract

This study was conducted to examine the influence of the Game-Based Learning (GBL) method on the learning outcomes of fifth-grade students in the fiqh ibadah subject at MI Tarbiyatul Athfal. The research problem stemmed from the fact that students’ academic performance remained below expectations, as indicated by an average Mid-Semester Examination score of 62.75, which did not meet the Minimum Mastery Criteria of 70. This condition was further reinforced by the teacher’s reliance on monotonous instructional strategies, which limited students’ motivation and achievement. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design (Nonequivalent Control Group Design) was employed. The participants consisted of 27 students, divided into 12 students in the experimental group who were taught using GBL, and 15 students in the control group who continued learning through the lecture method. Data were gathered through pretests and posttests, classroom observations, and supporting documentation. The analysis was descriptive, focusing on comparing the results before and after the treatment. The findings revealed a considerable improvement in the experimental group, where the mean score rose from 62.75 in the pretest to 73.75 in the posttest. In addition, the distribution of achievement categories shifted positively, with the elimination of the very low category and an increase in the proportion of students in the high category. Although the control group also showed progress, the gains were less significant compared to the experimental group. In conclusion, the GBL method proved effective in improving students’ comprehension of fiqh ibadah while creating a more engaging and interactive learning environment. Thus, this approach is recommended as an innovative instructional alternative in primary education.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of student interest in Cultural Arts subjects, which was triggered by conventional teaching methods that lacked interactivity. Augmented Reality (AR) is offered as an innovative solution to create an immersive learning experience, especially in outdoor settings that have not been widely explored. Although the effectiveness of AR has been proven in various contexts, its implementation for Cultural Arts learning in real environments is still very limited. Therefore, this research is urgent to fill this gap and provide empirical evidence on the use of AR in increasing student engagement. This study fills this gap by applying an AR application featuring 3D objects, 2D objects, videos, and practice questions using Unity Engine and Vuforia Engine. The development method follows the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation), while functionality testing uses Blackbox Alpha and learning interest evaluation uses Beta. The result is an AR Cultural Arts application, as evidenced by Beta testing results using a Likert scale, which produced a score of 4.00 with 35 student respondents in the “High” category stating that the application can increase the learning interest of high school students.
