Abstract

Lack of education in waste management has led to a large amount of waste being dumped in landfills. Organic waste is the largest type of waste disposed of in landfills. If organic waste is not managed properly, it can cause unpleasant odors in the environment and become a risk factor for global warming and explosions in landfills. This is also the case in RW 02 Air Putih Village. The community directly disposes of household waste without sorting the waste by type. In addition, the community also does not know how to process organic waste into useful items such as eco-enzyme and the products of eco-enzyme processing, namely liquid cleaning soap. This community service activity aims to increase community knowledge and skills on how to process household organic waste into eco-enzyme and cleaning liquid soap made from eco-enzyme as an effort to ground eco-enzyme. The targets in this activity are housewives in RT 01, RT 02, and RT 03, RW 02 Air Putih Village, Tuah Madani Subdistrict. The method used in this community service activity is socialization and training on how to make eco-enzyme and multipurpose cleaning liquid. The results obtained from this activity are the increased knowledge and skills of the community in processing household organic waste into eco-enzyme and liquid cleaning soap.

Abstract

Sago is an iconic agricultural commodity from the Meranti Islands region. Sago plantations cover 40,386 hectares. Diverse production yields and morphological differences in sago populations indicate high genetic diversity. This study aims to identify sago plants in the Meranti Islands and classify them based on similarities in morphological traits and DNA analysis. DNA analysis was carried out using SCoT and MatK markers. The research stages included sample collection, total DNA isolation, total DNA electrophoresis, total DNA amplification with SCoT and MatK primers, and data analysis. The results showed that based on morphological traits, sago populations in the Meranti Islands consist of three groups: BB, TB, and BJ. The dendrogram generated from the analysis of binary data SCoT using the UPGMA method and MatK analysis using BLAST in Genebank showed that these three groups are distinct and have different similarity coefficients. The BB group has a higher similarity coefficient with the BJ group compared to the TB group. There is no high genetic variation within these groups due to vegetative propagation of sago.

Abstract

Chili peppers (Capsicum annuum L.) are an important agricultural commodity whose productivity often decreases due to infestations by armyworm pests (Spodoptera litura Fab.). Soursop leaf extract (Annona muricata L.) has the potential to become an environmentally friendly botanical pesticide because its active compounds have been proven effective in suppressing feeding activity and causing mortality in these pests. This study aims to determine the effective concentration and the optimal application period of soursop leaf powder extract to control S. litura in chili plants. The study was conducted through two experiments. The first experiment used a completely randomized design with six treatments. The experimental data were analyzed using analysis of variance and further tested with the Honest Significant Difference (HSD) test at a 5% level. The second experiment used treatments with different application periods. The experimental data were statistically analyzed using tabulation and presented descriptively in the form of graphs. The research results showed that the effective concentration of soursop leaf powder extract to control S. litura on chili plants is 100 g/l of water, with an initial mortality time of 4.8 hours after application and a 50% lethal time of 42.0 hours after application, with an LC50 of 3.00% and an LC95 of 26.53%. The best application period for soursop leaf powder extract to control S. litura on chili plants is an application period with spraying every 2 days.

Abstract

The development of oil palm plants in nurseries is greatly affected by the type of growing medium used. Podzolic soils have many drawbacks, such as excessive acidity, a high level of exchangeable aluminum, low levels of phosphorus, and a low cation exchange capacity. By incorporating molybdenum and mycorrhizae as micronutrients, it is possible to improve the soil's chemical properties and promote better growth in seedlings. This study aimed to determine the effects of Mo and mycorrhiza applications on the growth of oil palm seedlings in the main nursery using podzolic soil as the planting medium. The research was conducted at an independent oil palm nursery in Sungai Kumango Village, Rokan Hulu Regency, Riau Province, using a factorial Completely Randomized Design with two factors: Mo doses (0, 0,3, and 0,6 g.plant⁻¹) and mycorrhiza doses (0, 5, 50, and 75 g.plant⁻¹), producing 12 treatment combinations with three replications each. Data were analyzed using ANOVA followed by the LSD test at a 5% significance level. The results showed that the application of Mo and mycorrhiza improved the chemical properties of podzolic soil, particularly total N, total K, total P, and CEC. However, neither the interaction nor the individual factors had a significant effect on seedling growth parameters, including plant height increment, number of fronds, and bulb diameter. The highest mycorrhizal infection levels were observed with the combination of  Mo 0.6 g.plant⁻¹ and mycorrhiza at 25 g and 75 g.plant⁻¹.
