While in control class, pre-test score is 48.42 and in post-test is 50.91. After implementing HOTS in the classroom, reading comprehension ability increases to 32.42% and 4.9% in control class. This finding indicates that HOTS brings good effect in learning reading comprehension process because students can get used to questions related to making inference and their ability to answer reading comprehension questions improves. Students be able to predict questions and provide logical reasons related to texts and learning materials. Then it can be concluded that there are differences between those who are taught by HOTS and those who are not, in terms of learning outcomes and also the way they think.

The results of the service show that 1) the participants' gestures before and after the activity have improved in a better direction, 2) the participants' understanding of translating text in the form of words, syllables, sentences and paragraphs has increased, 3) the skills of participants in translating English texts have increased by an average of 80%, 4 ) there was a significant difference in the improvement before and after counselling, training, and teacher assistance in translating high-level reasoning English text sources. Therefore, improving the ability and skills of translating English texts can use three stages, namely counselling, training and then assistance using text sources from international journals or international standard mathematics questions.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the effect of lecturer eye contact on student learning motivation and the students’ perception on it during their interaction in EFL classroom. It employs a descriptive method in cluster random sampling taking 30 students of English Education class. The data sources of this study were observation, questionnaire, and interview and analyzed descriptively. The observation results that students are more likely to pay attention to the material, more enthusiastic in learning and more respectful to the lecturers having and keeping an eye contact in the teaching and learning process. The result of the questionnaire shows that the lecturer eye contact significantly affects the students’ learning motivation indicated by the mean score of the questionnaire, that is 3.71 falling into high category. These two findings are supported by the data gained from the interview in which most students argued that lecturer eye contact has many positive impacts on their learning. An excessive eye contact of the lecturer to the students, however, can become a hindrance to draw students’ focus on the materials presented. Therefore, the lecturer eye contact to nurture students’ learning motivation should be considerably sufficient and not excessive.

The instrument of this research was speaking test or oral test. This research aimed to find out whether or not the use of the Time Token method effect the eleventh grade students’ speaking ability in terms of smoothness and pronounciation. The sample of this research was class XIIPA2 that consisted of 18 students of SMAN 5 Soppeng.  The result showed that Time Token method was effective to effect students’ smoothness (78.33) and pronounciation (73.61)  in speaking ability which was proved by the mean score of the Post-Test that was higher than the mean score of the Pre-Test smoothness (42.77) and pronunciation (48.88). Then, there was an effect as many as 83.14% (smoothness) and 50.59% (pronunciation) in describing some topics in three meeting (personal introduction, introduce their family, or explain their favorite place). It means that the student in the speaking class by using Time Token method could affect their speaking ability especially Fluency(smoothness) and pronounciation. However, this only method could not significantly affect the holistic speaking learning activities unless teachers’ use it in their teaching and learning procces.

Abstract

Project-Based Learning (PjBL) emerges as a pivotal approach in modern pedagogy. This research delves into how English teachers at the eleventh-grade level in SMA Dunia Harapan Makassar integrate PjBL in their creative writing curriculum, the challenges faced during this implementation, and its impact on students' writing outcomes. Utilizing a mixed-method approach, data was sourced from observation checklists, teacher interviews, and students' creative writing samples. Findings revealed both participating teachers proficiently applied PjBL syntaxes and began instruction by discussing linguistic elements of short stories. Challenges emerged in time management, sparking student enthusiasm for writing, and aligning PjBL with the Cambridge A-level curriculum and the CCP framework, emphasizing character development, communication, and problem-solving. A review of students' writings showed commendable results; organization, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics achieved average scores of 19.25, 18.87, 22.37, and 4.5 respectively. Content scored an average of 25.12, denoting good quality. Despite specific hurdles, the study underscores that with adept PjBL integration, students can markedly improve their creative writing prowess.

Abstract

The research aimed to investigate how teachers implemented the Project-Based Learning Model in teaching English, as well as the challenges faced by an English teacher at SMPN 2 Turatea. The researcher employed a Qualitative Research Design Method and collected data through two instruments: lesson plans, teacher recordings, and interview guides. The gathered data underwent analysis involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The Project-Based Learning Model consists of six stages: initiating with an essential question, designing a project plan, creating a schedule, monitoring student progress and project advancement, assessing outcomes, and evaluating the overall experience. The findings revealed that the teacher followed all six stages of the Project-Based Learning Model in teaching English. These stages encompassed starting with an essential question, crafting a project plan, establishing a timeline, closely monitoring student progress and project development, evaluating outcomes, and reflecting on the learning experience. Notably, the teacher innovatively employed control cards to oversee students' project progress. The teacher perceived that integrating the Project-Based Learning Model into English instruction not only promoted the development of positive character traits, particularly self-confidence but also encouraged student engagement in meaningful interactions.
