Abstract

This literature review explores the interplay of strengths, positive emotions, and critical thinking within the counseling practice. This literature review used a methodical approach that included a thorough search strategy in order to find and choose peer-reviewed journal articles published within the last ten years that focused on the interaction between strengths, positive emotions, and critical thinking in the counseling practice. Guided by a strengths-based approach, the review investigates how fostering positive emotions, including as appreciation, pleasure, and hope, might assist the discovery and application of client strengths. This review focused on empirical research articles, including quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods studies, that specifically examined the interaction between the three core constructs within the counseling context, excluding dissertations, theses, and studies focusing solely on one construct, while employing a systematic data extraction process with inter-rater reliability checks, followed by rigorous thematic analysis of the collected data. The review also explores the critical thinking abilities that are most important for enhancing the effectiveness of strengths-based therapies, including analysis, evaluation, and problem-solving.The review concludes by examining methods for incorporating critical thinking into the counseling process, such as Socratic questioning, reflective exercises, and cooperative goal planning. The results point to a synergistic interaction between critical thinking, positive emotions, and strengths that has a great deal of potential to improve client outcomes. The review does, however, also stress the significance of a well-rounded strategy that recognizes and deals with both happy and negative emotions during the counseling process.

Abstract

Tourism in Indonesia is a new field of science in the academic field. After the official recognition of tourism as a science in 2008, there was a significant development of tourism education in Indonesia at both the high school and university levels. However, in its implementation there are still some obstacles in the implementation of this education, both in terms of human resources (HR), teaching facilities, curriculum, as well as the absorption of graduates in related fields as well as synchronization with industry. The methodology used in this research is descriptive qualitative. Data processing is based on literature and document studies regarding the development of tourism education nationally and globally. Other data collection was also carried out through interviews with tourism education providers. The results showed that solving the existing problems required efforts and commitment from across sectors such as government, industry, academia, and society. Thus the current road map for tourism education is not only seen as a science but can also make a real contribution, namely improving the welfare of the community. Abstract

This study explores the flourishing experiences of student-athletes who navigate the dual challenges of academic and athletic commitments in Indonesian higher education. Within a context where student-athletes often face conflicts between training demands and educational expectations, the research aims to understand how they construct well-being and balance through the lens of positive psychology. Using a qualitative approach with Reflexive Thematic Analysis (RTA), eight participants from diverse sport disciplines were interviewed in depth. The PERMA (Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, and Accomplishment) served as a sensitizing concept to guide analysis while remaining open to emergent themes. Findings reveal that flourishing develops through the adaptive integration of positive emotions, deep engagement, supportive social relationships, purposeful dual-role identity, and balanced achievements. Participants experienced a process of self-regulation, resilience, and meaning-making as they coped with physical fatigue, academic stress, and time management challenges. These processes reflected both hedonic and eudaimonic dimensions of well-being. The study underscores that flourishing is not a static state but a reflective and ecological process shaped by social support, institutional context, and personal strengths. The findings highlight the need for strength-based counseling programs and flexible institutional policies to sustain student-athletes’ holistic well-being and long-term academic–athletic harmony.
