Abstract

Chronic Low Back Pain (CLBP) or Low Back Pain (NPB) is pain between the costal and gluteal margins that persists for over three months. LPB is a common disease. Fifty percent of the world's population is estimated to experience LBP by 30, and 70% of the population will experience LBP at some point in their adulthood. There is no gold standard for LBP therapy, so the therapy needed depends on the patient. One of the therapies used is acupuncture therapy. In a randomized clinical trial, acupuncture therapy demonstrated greater effectiveness in reducing pain intensity for patients with chronic LBP compared to administering oral baclofen at a dose of 30 mg/day. Another study in Germany with 1162 research subjects also found that providing acupuncture therapy in the treatment of chronic LBP had more significant efficacy on the patient's pain and functional status than conventional therapy.

Abstract

Peripheral neuropathy (PN) is a condition characterized by damage to the peripheral nervous system, resulting in symptoms such as pain, numbness, and weakness in the hands and feet. The most common causes include diabetes, thyroid disorders, vitamin B12 deficiency, alcohol abuse, chemotherapy, and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Despite the availability of various treatments, neurological disorders remain a significant therapeutic challenge. The therapeutic effects of acupuncture are attributed to several mechanisms, including stimulation of nerve fibers, restoration of blood flow, release of neurotransmitters and hormones, modulation of the autonomic nervous system, anti-inflammatory effects, and increased neuroplasticity. These mechanisms collectively contribute to the relief of symptoms associated with peripheral neuropathy. Evidence suggests that acupuncture is beneficial in treating peripheral neuropathy. Studies have shown that acupuncture can improve nerve conduction study parameters in sensory and motor nerves, reduce neuropathic pain, and improve overall nerve function. Certain acupuncture points such as ST-36, GB-34, SP-3, SP-8, and BI-56 have been identified as particularly effective in managing symptoms of peripheral neuropathy. Although more rigorous studies are needed to fully characterize the effects of acupuncture on peripheral neuropathy, the available evidence supports its use as a complementary therapy. Standardized acupuncture protocols that combine anatomical correlation with peripheral nerves and traditional approaches to neuropathic pain management appear to be effective. Further studies with larger sample sizes and randomized comparisons to sham acupuncture will help establish acupuncture as a guideline for treating peripheral neuropathy. This review outlines the potential of acupuncture as a complementary therapy in the management of peripheral neuropathy.

Abstract

. One of the most common diseases in workers is musculoskeletal disorders. where the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders in teachers is around 39% to 95%. Most teachers experience chronic musculoskeletal disorders and subjective complaints, one of which is pain in the upper limbs.  Some studies show the relationship between gadgets and user posture can cause discomfort and fatigue in the hands, elbows, and shoulders. This article discuss about the use of gadgets in an unergonomic position often results in musculoskeletal complaints. Static loading by holding handheld devices or gadgets for long periods, often with unergonomic postures and excessive use of muscles in the upper limbs, is likely to contribute to myofascial pain syndrome in the muscles of the hands and arms, resulting in pain in the upper limbs.

Abstract

Labor pain is a multifaceted physiological phenomenon and is frequently one of the most arduous elements of the birthing process. If labor pain is unmanaged, it may result in complications that are not only distressing for the mother but also potentially hazardous for the fetus. Acupressure is a technique that can be used to reduce the intensity of labor pain. Acupressure is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that involves applying pressure to specific points on the body. This article will explore the implementation of acupressure in alleviating labor pain from various credible scientific sources. Research has shown that applying pressure to points such as LI4, SP6, GB21, and BL32 reduces pain intensity during labor, making acupressure a non-pharmacological management option during childbirth.

Abstract

Background: Teachers are required to maintain prolonged sitting postures while engaging in complex and demanding tasks, placing them at increased risk for work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). Ergonomics plays a critical role in minimizing these risks, yet its importance is often underrecognized in the teaching profession. Moreover, in Indonesia, studies using direct observation methods such as the WorkSafe Ergonomics Tool remain limited. This study aims to analyse the relationship between work posture, assessed using the WorkSafe Ergonomic Office Tool, and musculoskeletal disorders among high school teachers. Methods: This study is an observational analytical study with a cross-sectional design on 55 Islamic Senior High School 3 teachers in Palembang City, who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria obtained using the total sampling technique. Data were obtained by filling out questionnaires and observing the work postures of teachers using the Ergonomic Office instrument by WorkSafe. Meanwhile, the musculoskeletal pain indicator uses the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. Results: The study results showed that most inappropriate work postures were found in the back in 78,2% of teachers and were significantly associated with pain in the head (p=0.033; OR=3.6) and back (p=0.046; OR=0.210). Conclusion: These findings highlight the urgent need for ergonomic adjustments in educational environments.  Utilising approved observational instruments, such as the WorkSafe Ergonomic Office Tool, can improve early identification and preventative measures for musculoskeletal problems among teachers in Indonesia.

Abstract

Free radicals are molecules with one or more unpaired electrons, which makes them very labile and reactive. They are important in tissue damage and pathological processes in living organisms. Endogenous sources of free radicals are metabolic waste, such as combustion processes in the body, proteins, carbohydrates, and fats that we consume, and exogenous ones that come from air pollution, vehicle exhaust, and various chemicals and ultraviolet rays. 1, 2 An increase in free radicals can cause oxidative stress, resulting in oxidative damage from the cellular tissue to organ levels that will accelerate aging and cause various disease pathogenesis. 3 To reduce the impact of oxidative stress, adequate antioxidants are needed, which can be obtained from the body through enzymes or natural antioxidant intake. 4 One source of natural antioxidants comes from the leaves of purple sweet potato plants (Ipomea batatas L), which contain chemical compounds such as beta-carotene, bioflavonoids, catechins, and polyphenols that can ward off free radicals, improve oxidative stress conditions so that they are beneficial for maintaining health.

Abstract

Deadlift is a resistance training exercise commonly used to enhance muscle strength, but improper technique can increase the risk of musculoskeletal pain. This study aimed to analyze the distribution and intensity of musculoskeletal pain in recreational deadlift users using a cross-sectional design. A total of 42 respondents from two gym communities in Palembang were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected via questionnaires and analyzed descriptively. The results showed that 48.9% of respondents had poor posture during deadlift, and the majority (66.7%) lifted heavy loads (≥70% of 1RM). Musculoskeletal pain was most frequently reported in the lower back (85.3%), followed by the glutes (8.8%) and the right shoulder (5.9%). Most respondents experienced mild pain (37.8%) or no pain at all (37.8%), while moderate pain was reported by 24.4% of respondents. No cases of severe pain were recorded. These findings indicate that although deadlift can cause musculoskeletal discomfort, the pain intensity is generally tolerable.
