Abstract

In contemporary society, YouTube addiction in children under five has become an increasingly troubling problem. The purpose of this study is to solve the addiction problem and provide solutions that can be applied in the workplace. A modified SEIEdR (Suspectible-Exposed-Infected-Education-Recovered) model for YouTube watching addiction behavior is used. Identifying assumptions and parameters, creating mathematical models, finding equilibrium points, calculating the basic reproduction number (R0), conducting model stability analysis, and performing simulations using Maple software are all methodological processes. The main findings show that if R0 < 1, the addictive behavior of watching YouTube will decrease over time and will become endemic. In addition, the individual rate values of active and novice viewers who are educated have a significant effect on reducing the population of novice and active YouTube viewers. These simulation results improve our understanding of the dynamics of YouTube viewing addiction and offer practical solutions to this problem.

Abstract

Indonesia, as an archipelago, has much local wisdom. Teaching local wisdom materials in Indonesia so far tends to use images or videos that are not interactive. This medium has limitations in terms of student involvement. Therefore, it is necessary to develop learning media that can effectively display local wisdom from various cultures. This research uses the Research and Development method to develop Augmented Reality applications. Augmented Reality Local Wisdom: This research developed local wisdom in Indonesia, including the Batak, Javanese, Sundanese, and Betawi tribes. Material culture encompasses traditional clothing, vernacular architecture, indigenous weapons, and regional motifs. The research population comes from the provinces of North Sumatra, Jakarta, West Java, and Yogyakarta. This study's research product involves developing a project-based learning model grounded in local wisdom and supported by Augmented Reality. The development results show that using Augmented Reality in learning, particularly through the project-based learning model, is beneficial because it helps students describe material culture more effectively. This study suggests that students can become more engaged and interactive in their learning. Additionally, using Augmented Reality, students can explore culture more contextually, enhance their problem-solving skills, and reduce the time and costs associated with learning about local culture. The use of AR in local wisdom-based learning could be an innovative solution to enhance the quality of education and cultural preservation in the digital age.

Abstract

This study aims to develop Batak culture-based domino card learning media to enhance students’ interest and academic achievement in three challenging mathematics topics: trigonometry, integer operations, and logarithms. The research explores how local cultural values, specifically the Batak kinship philosophy Dalihan Na Tolu, can be meaningfully integrated into mathematics instruction. Employing a design-based research (DBR) approach, the study was conducted in seven schools across North Sumatra Province, Indonesia. The development process encompassed media design, expert validation, classroom implementation, and iterative refinement. Instruments utilized included teacher interviews, classroom observations, student questionnaires, and achievement tests. The findings indicate that integrating Dalihan Na Tolu values into game- based learning media provides culturally resonant analogies that enhance students’ understanding of abstract mathematical concepts. In trigonometry, visual and cultural representations helped students distinguish among triangle elements and apply ratio concepts in problem-solving. In the context of integer operations, the domino gameplay facilitated students’ comprehension of signed numbers through contextual scenarios such as altitude and temperature changes. For logarithms, visual simulations and matching exercises supported students in grasping the inverse relationship between exponents and logarithmic expressions. The application of culturally contextualized game-based media not only improved students’ comprehension across all three mathematical topics but also significantly increased their engagement and interest in learning. These findings suggest that incorporating local cultural values into instructional tools can offer an innovative and effective model for advancing mathematics education, particularly in culturally diverse contexts.

Abstract

Mathematical connection skills and learning independence remain challenges in the formal education system, particularly among students who rely heavily on procedural memorization rather than deep conceptual understanding. This situation underscores the necessity of developing learning strategies that promote critical thinking awareness and reflection. One such strategy is the application of metacognitive techniques. This study seeks to assess the impact of metacognitive strategies on the development of mathematical connection skills and learning independence among eighth-grade students enrolled in the mathematics department at Al Washliyah Hamparan Perak Private Middle School. Employing a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design, the study sample comprises two classes: an experimental group that receives instruction utilizing metacognitive strategies and a control group that receives conventional instruction. The analysis of the data revealed a substantial positive impact of metacognitive strategies on both mathematical connection skills and learning independence. Specifically, the experimental group demonstrated a significant improvement in mathematical connection skills (significance 0.000 < 0.05) and learning independence (significance 0.001 < 0.05). The average gain score for mathematical connections was 0.54735 for the experimental group and 0.28264 for the control group. Similarly, the average gain score for learning independence was 0.39870 for the experimental group and 0.19518 for the control group. Consequently, metacognitive strategies have been demonstrated to be an effective tool for enhancing both mathematical connection skills and learning independence. Their implementation in the formal education system is crucial in fostering critical thinking, self-awareness, and independent learning among students.
