Abstract

This article aims to describe correlation between city's architecture as urban culture and cultural studies, specifically in semiotics. This article starts from Chris Barker's statement about city and urban as text in his phenomenal book, Cultural Studies, Theory and Practice. City as a complex subject has been transformed as the representation of urban culture. In the post-modernism view, urban culture as cultural space and cultural studies' sites have significantly pointed to became communications discourse and also part of the identity of Semiology. This article uses semiotics of Saussure for the research methods. Surabaya and Jakarta has been chosen for the objects of this article. The result of this article is describing the significant view of architecture science helps the semiotics in cultural studies. In other way, city's architecture becomes the strong identity of urban culture in Jakarta and Surabaya. Architecture approaches the cultural studies to view urban culture, especially in symbol and identity in the post-modernism era.

Abstract

In 2004 Election, Indonesian government launched a policy mandatory 30 percent female representatives in the legislature. This is an effort to accelerate an increase of women’s representativeness in the parliament. This research describes the imaging of women as politicians in Indonesian online news sites: detikcom, Kompas.com, and Tribunnews.com. Van Dijk’s critical discourse analysis was utilized as method of this research with feminist critical analysis as the  corresponding method. The result shows that the imaging of female politicians is in the domestic area. They are pictured as emotional and weak persons.

Abstract

Media as a medium plays a significant role in strengthening gender concept in society. Female’s sexualities are viewed as an object of judgement for the media. For the sake of men readers’ satisfaction, media justifies itself in its attempts to exploit women sexuality. Masculine’s way of thinking has been perpetuated in reports about women. Masculine men are considered empowering female’s bodies. Violence acts are considered as the form of masculine domination over feminine beings. This research aims to dismantle how media construct their texts on masculine discourses on online news portals. Online news portals are required to be swift in uploading news and using their acquired resources; thus, they perpetuate this masculine discourse. Critical discourse analysis of Van Dick was employed to unravel masculine discourse structures on media texts at the largest news portals in Indonesia, Alexa.com; and Tribunnews.com; which belong to a corporate media, Kompas Gramedia. The findings of this research state that online news portals and their acquired resources strengthen violence labelling as a part of masculine domination over feminine beings.

Abstract

Amanat Undang-Undang No. 32 Tahun 2002 tentang Penyiaran adalah setiap media penyiaran diharuskan untuk diversity of content dan diversity of ownership, dengan memberlakukan kebijakan berupa sistem stasiun jaringan. Sebagai bentuk implementasi dari UU Penyiaran tersebut, dibentuklah Kompas TV Kediri yang merupakan televisi berjaringan dari salah satu anak jaringan dari Kompas TV di Jakarta. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan kebijakan siaran lokal televisi berjaringan Kompas TV Kediri. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan metode penelitian studi kasus untuk menemukan jawaban atas rumusan masalah yang diajukan. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa Kompas TV Kediri ini tidak dapat dilepaskan dari pengaruh kebijakan Kompas TV di Jakarta sebagai induk jaringan. Kompas TV di Jakarta sebagai induk jaringan dari Kompas TV Kediri ini ikut mengatur dan memberikan kebijakan-kebijakan tertentu dalam semua aspek, mulai dari kepemilikan, organisasi, program acara, pemasaran, sumber daya manusia serta teknologi yang digunakan oleh Kompas TV Kediri, sehingga amanat pelaksanaan UU Penyiaran tersebut belumlah sempurna.

Abstract

AbstractThis study aims to determine whether there is an effect of social media exposure from the @byooteofficial Instagram account on purchase decisions made by followers and to find out the magnitude of the influence. The concepts to be used in this study are media exposure, Instagram, and purchase decisions. The method of this study using a survey method with a quantitative approach that is explanative and the sample taken in this study is as many as 400 respondents. The results of this study, which used a simple linear regression test, showed that there was an influence between media exposure on purchase decisions on followers of the @byooteofficial Instagram account by 44% and another 56% influenced by other factors not examined in this study. Therefore, this study can be concluded that it has successfully answered the objectives of this study, namely the influence and how much influence the variable x (media exposure) has on the variable y (purchase decision). AbstrakPerkembangan media sosial sebagai medium komunikasi pemasaran meningkat signifikan pasca 2010. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada pengaruh terpaan media sosial dari akun Instagram @byooteofficial terhadap keputusan pembelian yang dilakukan followers dan untuk mengetahui besarnya pengaruh tersebut. Konsep yang akan digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah media exposure, Instagram, dan keputusan pembelian. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan metode survei dengan pendekatan kuantitatif yang bersifat eksplanatif dan sampel yang diambil dalam penelitian ini adalah sebanyak 400 responden. Hasil penelitian yang menggunakan uji regresi linier sederhana menunjukkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh antara terpaan media terhadap keputusan pembelian pada followers akun Instagram @byooteofficial sebesar 44% dan 56% lainnya dipengaruhi oleh faktor lain yang tidak diteliti dalam penelitian ini. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan telah berhasil menjawab tujuan penelitian ini, yaitu pengaruh dan seberapa besar pengaruh variabel x (terpaan media) terhadap variabel y (keputusan pembelian).

AbstrakPenelitian ini mendeskripsikan fenomena dakwah di media sosial yang terjadi pada akun bisnis Instagram santri tahun 1985. Akun bisnis santri Instagram berhasil dikalahkan pada tahun 1985. Pesantren Ngalah menggunakan teknologi sebagai media dakwahnya, seperti media dakwah. Akun bisnis Instagram. Pendekatan penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan menggunakan metodologi etnografi virtual. Model etnografi ini adalah metode utama dan terpenting dalam melihat fenomena budaya-siber di Internet. Fenomena dakwah pengasuh Pondok Pesantren Ngalah pada akun Instagram bisnis ngalah santri tahun 1985 dapat dilihat dari empat tingkatan yaitu di ruang media, Instagram yang digunakan oleh Pondok Pesantren Ngalah adalah akun bisnis pendidikan Instagram. Yang digunakan sebagai media prediksi. Dalam dokumen media tersebut, konten Pondok Pesantren Ngalah di akun bisnis Instagram berupa tulisan, foto, dan video. Dalam objek media, mad’u pengasuh Pondok Pesantren Ngalah di akun Instagram bisnis bisa berinteraksi dengan mad’u lain. Di level media, Pesantren Ngalah menggunakan akun Instagram bisnis sebagai media dakwah untuk memperluas jangkauan dakwahnya. AbstractThis study describes the phenomena of da’wah on social media that occurred in the students ‘Instagram business accounts in 1985. The students’ Instagram business accounts were defeated in 1985. The Ngalah Islamic boarding school uses technology as a medium of preaching, such as the media of preaching. Instagram business account. The research approach used in this research is a descriptive qualitative approach using virtual ethnographic methodology. This ethnographic model is the main and most important method of looking at cyber-cultural phenomena on the Internet. The phenomenon of the da’wah of the Ngalah Islamic Boarding School caregivers on the Instagram account of the student ngalah business in 1985 can be seen from four levels, namely in the media room, Instagram which is used by Pondok Pesantren Ngalah is an Instagram education business account. which is used as a prediction medium. In the media document, the content of the Ngalah Islamic Boarding School on the Instagram business account is in the form of writings, photos, and videos. In the media object, the mad’u who cared for Pondok Pesantren Ngalah on the business Instagram account could interact with other mad’u. At the media level, the Ngalah Islamic Boarding School uses a business Instagram account as a da’wah medium to expand its preaching reach.

Abstract

Social media is instrumental in giving effect to nitizens, good effects or bad effect, then social media can be also represent a person. Diserve social media make it interesting for nitizens. One of social media is Youtube. Many a lot of video at there, strat from tips and trick videos, journey or vacation video, wedding video, and ect. Everyone can publish their video on Youtube. No exception of same sex enthusiast, in this study are homosexual or gay. One of is a wedding video Sam Tsui and Casey Braves. This research is a qualitative research and this research uses semiotcs analysus of Roland Barthes. By doing an analysis of video that have been published by Sam on Youtube, also do document search and literature. The author sees the existence of verbal and non vebal forms of representation from same sex merriage video of men and men. Abstract

Radio broadcasting is the oldest electronic media. It is nearly a century of its existence and tries to keep the existence of overcoming tough competition by the presence of other media. In general, the motivation to exist is influenced by survival factors broadcasters themselves. Recently, it emerged new technologies and methods of distribution that has a profound effect on the way in which the audience listening to radio through the Internet. In the process of radio communications, conventional radio broadcasters have added internet media. The study recommends the meaning communication process in media integration on conventional radio and the internet as a media convergence. This study used qualitative approach that still has not been done to the study of conventional media of communication broadcast integration and the internet to private broadcast radio with the data collection conducted through field observations, interviews, and documentation. In this study, the researcher selected resource persons who were aware of the radio broadcasting situation. The determinations of informants were interviewed by purposively, which chosen by consideration and specific purposes. Data were analyzed using qualitative data analysis. The data obtained from various sources, using data collection techniques (triangulation), and it carried out continuously until the data saturated. The researcher also analyzed the data with the process of arranging data order, organized them with the interpretation, provided a significant meaning to the analysis, as well as an explaining description to the pattern of dimensions. The process was carried out with data analysis techniques to perform three (3) aspects in a systematic analysis of data reduction, data display, and conclusion. This study confirms that the meaning of the communication process of conventional media of communication broadcast integration and the internet as media convergence to become crucial in improving the knowledge of radio broadcasting at the present and in the future. Besides that, the study found that the current radio broadcasting, in addition to broadcast in the form of sound or noise, it also broadcasts in live streaming or podcasts streamed over the Internet (network) in the form of voice, text, images and video.

Abstract

Theres many ways can be done to appreciate the voices of messages and criticisms through creative ways, one of them through comics. One of the Indonesian comic artists who used comics as a medium of social criticism was Haryadhi through his "Komik Strip Untuk Umum (KOSTUM)” creation. KOSTUM Comics record the events that are happening and pour them into comic strips spread through social media. This research is a qualitative descriptive type using Roland Barthes' semiotics theory with two-stage significance (two orders of signification). From the results of the study, researchers found the implicit meaning that is to criticize and satirize the behavior of Indonesian people in a subtle way. Criticism expressed to comics is directed directly at the actors but is delicately wrapped with humorous portrayals through their characters. From the KOSTUM comics examined can be concluded that the social criticism described in the comic is an expression of the condition of the community related to the values that are used as a guideline for living in community groups.Keywords: Comics, Social Criticism, Semiotics, Roland Barthes

Abstract

ABSTRACT HobaPojo is a traditional cloth from the Nagekeo district that is commonly used by Nagekeo women. However, the development of fashion with other motive trends made hobapojo less prestige and began to be abandoned. This qualitative study uses case studies, in-depth interviews with triangulation methods to achieve research credibility. Data was found that the hobapojo cloth was traditionally intended for Nagekeo women. The meaning contained in the cloth covers the entire life cycle to the death of Nagekeo woman. Hobapojo must be used in a variety of traditional events, like clothing, blankets, dance costumes, surrender at the wedding, and cut teeth until the luggage when he died. Hobapojo is also a handicraft product for Nagekeo women to support their lives and to drive the family economy. There are rules in the use of fabrics, and each motif represents the characteristics and thinking skills of the weavers as a form of existence and effort to preserve culture. Keywords; Culture; HobaPojo; Cultural Communication. ABSTRAK HobaPojo adalah kain tradisional dari distrik Nagekeo yang biasa digunakan oleh wanita Nagekeo. Namun, perkembangan mode dengan tren motif lainnya membuat hobapojo kurang gengsi dan mulai ditinggalkan. Penelitian kualitatif ini menggunakan studi kasus, wawancara mendalam dengan metode triangulasi untuk mencapai kredibilitas penelitian. Data ditemukan bahwa kain hobapojo secara tradisional ditujukan untuk wanita Nagekeo. Makna yang terkandung dalam kain mencakup seluruh siklus hidup sampai kematian wanita Nagekeo. Hobapojo harus digunakan dalam berbagai acara tradisional, seperti pakaian, selimut, kostum tari, pasrah di pesta pernikahan, potong gigi sampai koper ketika ia meninggal. Hobapojo juga merupakan produk kerajinan tangan untuk wanita Nagekeo untuk mendukung kehidupan mereka dan untuk mendorong ekonomi keluarga. Ada aturan dalam penggunaan kain, dan masing-masing motif mewakili karakteristik dan keterampilan berpikir para penenun sebagai bentuk keberadaan dan upaya untuk melestarikan budaya. Kata kunci; Budaya; HobaPojo; Komunikasi Budaya.
