Abstract

This research investigated the relationships among self-esteem, coping strategies, and resilience among emerging adults living in Bandung. The study used a quantitative correlational design and involved 150 participants aged 19-29 recruited through purposive, nonprobability sampling. Participants completed measures of self-esteem, coping strategies, and resilience. The analyses included descriptive statistics, gender comparisons, Pearson correlations, tests of regression assumptions, and multiple linear regression. The results showed a positive and statistically significant association between self-esteem and resilience. By contrast, coping strategies were not significantly associated with resilience, either in the bivariate analysis or after self-esteem was entered into the regression model. Although the model as a whole reached statistical significance, it explained only a limited proportion of the variance in resilience. Self-esteem, therefore, emerged as the more salient correlate in this sample. The findings also suggest that resilience may be associated with personal, interpersonal, and contextual resources beyond those examined in this study. Interventions for emerging adults may consequently benefit from promoting constructive self-evaluation while considering the effectiveness and situational suitability of coping responses, rather than their frequency alone

Abstract

This study examined the relationships and predictive contributions of loneliness and hopelessness to meaning in life among young adults following a romantic breakup. A quantitative correlational design was employed using an online questionnaire distributed to individuals aged 20–25 years who had experienced the end of a romantic relationship lasting at least six months. Of the 81 responses received, 67 met the eligibility criteria and were included in the analysis. Data were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation, multiple linear regression, and supplementary analyses of the Presence of Meaning and Search for Meaning dimensions. The results showed that loneliness was negatively associated with meaning in life, although it did not make a significant unique contribution when hopelessness was included in the regression model. Hopelessness, in contrast, emerged as a significant negative predictor and the strongest variable in the model. Together, loneliness and hopelessness explained 49.2% of the variance in meaning in life. Additional findings indicated that hopelessness was more strongly related to the Presence of Meaning than to the Search for Meaning. These results suggest that meaning in life after a romantic breakup is more closely associated with hope, future orientation, and confidence in the possibility of a better life than with loneliness alone

Abstract

The quality of interpersonal relationships among young adults in romantic relationships is an important aspect of an individual’s psychological and relational life. The quality of these relationships is related to various psychological factors, including avoidant attachment and self-disclosure. This study aims to examine the relationship between avoidant attachment and self-disclosure and the quality of interpersonal relationships among young adults aged 18–25 in Bandung. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sample consisted of 100 young adults currently in romantic relationships and was selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected via a questionnaire and analyzed using the Pearson product-moment correlation test and the coefficient of determination (R²). The results showed that avoidant attachment and self-disclosure together had a strong and significant relationship with the quality of interpersonal relationships (R = 0.743; Adjusted R² = 0.542; p < 0.001). Specifically, avoidant attachment was found to have a significant negative correlation (r = -0.514; p < 0.001), while self-disclosure had a significant positive correlation (r = 0.586; p < 0.001) with the quality of interpersonal relationships. The results of the study indicate that the quality of interpersonal relationships tends to be better among individuals with lower levels of avoidant attachment and higher levels of self-disclosure.

Abstract

The emotional health of parents is frequently influenced by the complex responsibilities associated with raising a child who has special needs. Their ability to adjust to their child’s condition is shaped by numerous elements, particularly the degree of stress they experience and the availability of supportive social relationships. Accordingly, this research was designed to investigate how parental stress and social support are associated with the psychological well-being of parents caring for children with special needs in Bandung. Using a quantitative, correlational methodology, the study involved 56 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Information was gathered by administering structured questionnaires, while the data were processed using Pearson’s correlation analysis and multiple correlation procedures. The findings revealed a statistically significant positive association between stress levels and psychological well-being (r = 0.757, p < 0.001). Likewise, social support demonstrated a meaningful positive relationship with psychological well-being (r = 0.640, p < 0.001). Furthermore, the combined influence of stress and social support exhibited a very strong connection with psychological well-being (R = 0.806, p < 0.001). Overall, these outcomes suggest that both parents’ emotional experiences and the social assistance they receive are closely interconnected with their overall psychological well-being

Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of guidance and counselling programs on students' understanding of juvenile delinquency in a vocational high school in Bandung. Juvenile delinquency is a social problem that often arises in schools and can hinder the development of students' character. Guidance and counselling services are expected to act as preventive measures, increasing students' awareness and understanding of deviant behaviour and its negative consequences. This study used a quantitative, one-group pretest-posttest design with 329 students. The research instrument was a questionnaire designed to measure students' understanding of juvenile delinquency before and after receiving guidance and counselling services. Data analysis was carried out using a paired-samples t-test in SPSS version 25. The analysis showed a significant increase in students' understanding after participating in the guidance and counselling program, with a t-value of -39.85 and p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). These findings prove that the guidance and counselling program is effective in increasing students' awareness and understanding of various forms of juvenile delinquency and their impacts. Therefore, this study recommends strengthening the implementation of guidance and counselling programs as a preventive strategy to address deviant behaviour in schools.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The increasing trend of marriage postponement among Generation Z is influenced by changes in social values, economic pressures, and the complexity of interpersonal relationships, which may contribute to marital anxiety. This study aims to examine the effects of financial anxiety and fear of commitment on marital anxiety among early adults of Generation Z in Bandung City. A quantitative correlational approach was employed in this study. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire distributed to 150 Generation Z respondents aged 18–29 years residing in Bandung City. The data were analyzed using multiple linear regression after passing validity, reliability, and classical assumption tests. The findings indicate that both financial anxiety and fear of commitment have positive and significant effects on marital anxiety, both individually and simultaneously. Among the two predictors, fear of commitment emerged as the more dominant factor contributing to marital anxiety. The results also demonstrate that both variables explain a substantial proportion of the variation in marital anxiety among Generation Z early adults. These findings highlight the importance of addressing psychological readiness for commitment and financial concerns through educational initiatives, counseling, and psychological interventions to better prepare young adults for marriage.

Abstract

Adolescence is a transitional period characterized by biological, psychological, and social changes that increase vulnerability to risky behavior, including premarital sexual behavior. This phenomenon is increasingly worrying among Indonesian adolescents and is also clearly found in students at SMK “X” in Ciparay District. This study aims to analyze the influence of self-control and peer conformity on premarital sexual behavior among students at SMK “X” in Ciparay District. The study used a quantitative approach with a survey method. The study sample consisted of 64 students in grades X and XI selected using proportional random sampling technique. Data were collected through a Likert scale questionnaire that measured premarital sexual behavior, self-control based on Averill's theory, and peer conformity based on Baron and Byrne's theory. Data analysis was performed using multiple linear regression with the help of IBM SPSS. The results showed that self-control had a significant and negative effect on premarital sexual behavior, while peer conformity had a significant and positive effect. Simultaneously, self-control and peer conformity had a significant effect on premarital sexual behavior and were able to explain 23.1% of the variation in that behavior. These findings suggest that low self-control and high levels of peer conformity that support risky behavior increase the likelihood of premarital sexual behavior in students. This research is expected to provide a basis for schools, parents, and other stakeholders in designing more effective preventive interventions.

Abstract

Learning motivation is a key psychological factor influencing students' engagement and achievement in mathematics. Students with low learning motivation tend to exhibit low self-confidence, avoid challenging tasks, and give up easily when faced with difficulties. One psychological approach that has shown promise in addressing this issue is the Growth Mindset Intervention, which encourages students to believe that intelligence and abilities can be developed through sustained effort, effective learning strategies, and continuous practice. This study aimed to examine the effect of a Growth Mindset Intervention on mathematics learning motivation among junior high school students. A quantitative approach with a pre-experimental One-Group Pretest–Posttest Design was employed. The participants consisted of 10 students from SMP Bina Negara Baleendah, Indonesia, selected through purposive sampling. Mathematics learning motivation was measured using a Likert-scale questionnaire administered before and after the intervention, and the data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results showed that the mean mathematics learning motivation score increased from 54.00 at pretest to 84.50 at posttest. Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (Z = −2.823, p = .005), with a very large effect size (r = .89), indicating that the intervention had substantial practical significance. These findings suggest that the Growth Mindset Intervention is effective in enhancing junior high school students' motivation for mathematics learning by fostering adaptive beliefs about the malleability of mathematical ability. Therefore, integrating growth mindset-based psychological interventions into mathematics education may serve as an effective strategy for promoting students' motivation and engagement in learning

Abstract

The rapid growth of social media use among vocational high school students has increased concerns about psychological well-being, particularly in relation to self-esteem and Fear of Missing Out (FoMO). Students are increasingly exposed to social comparison and digital pressure, which may affect their mental functioning. This study aims to examine the relationships between self-esteem, FoMO, and psychological well-being among vocational high school students in Bandung. A quantitative correlational design was employed, involving 80 students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using standardized self-esteem, FoMO, and psychological well-being scales, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, and classical assumption testing. The results indicate that self-esteem is positively and significantly correlated with psychological well-being, while FoMO shows a strong negative correlation with psychological well-being. In addition, self-esteem is found to be negatively associated with FoMO. These findings suggest that self-esteem functions as a protective factor, whereas FoMO acts as a psychological risk factor for students’ well-being. The study highlights the importance of strengthening internal psychological resources and managing digital-related anxiety to support students’ psychological well-being in the context of increasing social media exposure.
