Abstract

Kolaka Regency is one of the fisheries producers in Southeast Sulawesi Province. The economic value of capture fisheries in Kolaka Regency also continues to increase from year to year. Unfortunately, this increase is not followed by an improvement in the economy of small-scale fishermen. Many factors influence this. One of them is the still high practice of using simple fishing gear and the management of fisheries businesses that are not yet qualified. Lawulo Village has people whose main livelihood is fishing. In general, they use gill nets in their capture fisheries business. This study uses multiple linear regression analysis intending to know the factors that influence the income level of gillnet fishermen. The data used is primary data obtained from interviews with fishermen. The results showed that four factors significantly influenced the income level of basic gillnet fishermen, namely age and education level. The variable number of family dependents and business experience did not significantly affect the income received by fishermen.

Abstract

A global issue concerning palm oil that is currently and will continue to develop is related to access to export markets or international trade. The international market, particularly the European Union, demands that the management and processing of palm oil plantations be responsible, taking into account social, environmental, and economic aspects. To be accepted in the international market, the palm oil produced must be sustainable and environmentally friendly. One government program to respond to this challenge is the development of the Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) policy. Most independent smallholders have not yet implemented the ISPO policy. Kolaka Regency is one of the centers of palm oil production in Indonesia. This study aims to review the level of readiness for implementing sustainable palm oil certification in Kolaka Regency. This study focused on four main sub-districts: Tanggetada, Polinggona, Toari, and Watubangga. Involving 125 respondents from eight villages, the sample was selected using a multistage disproportionate purposive sampling method. The overall ISPO standard achievement among smallholders was 48.0%, indicating less sustainable management practices and partial readiness for certification, while also underscoring the need for continued capacity development to meet all mandatory ISPO criteria. The results of this study can be used as a set of indicators for the achievement of the 2020 regulation on ISPO implementation in Indonesia. These findings offer actionable evidence for stakeholders at the provincial and national levels to accelerate ISPO implementation and strengthen the sustainability performance of the Indonesian palm oil sector through improved extension, financing, and governance support for independent smallholders.

Abstract

Southeast Sulawesi province, as one of the cocoa baskets and the center of the National Cocoa Movement (GERNAS), continues to experience a decline in cocoa production and land area. One factor is the widespread conversion of cocoa land. This phenomenon needs to be highlighted and studied further because it can affect the sustainability of the cocoa value chain in Southeast Sulawesi. This study aims to determine what factors influence cocoa farmers in converting cocoa farmland to other farms in Southeast Sulawesi Province's two leading cocoa-producing districts. The research sites were purposely selected because they are the two leading cocoa-producing districts in the province. This study used logistic regression analysis. Cocoa farmers in Kolaka district converted cocoa land to patchouli farming, while cocoa farmers in East Kolaka district converted their cocoa land to rice farming. The analysis results show that the main factors that significantly influence cocoa farmers' decision to convert cocoa land are cocoa farming experience and the price of other commodities (including the level of income farmers receive from farming other commodities). The primary policy that the government can take in maintaining cocoa land area is to provide price certainty for cocoa itself. So far, cocoa farmers have always faced price uncertainty, and cocoa's value chain and sustainability in Southeast Sulawesi Province need to be clarified.

Abstract

The preparation of the 2026 Agricultural Extension Program in Langgosipi Village, Watubangga District, Kolaka Regency was carried out to design extension activities that are targeted, effective, and aligned with the needs of farmers. This activity employed participatory methods through village coordination, data collection, focus group discussions (FGDs), field surveys, and program formulation workshops. The evaluation results indicate that the village has strong potential in oil palm, coffee, and pepper commodities, supported by fertile land conditions and the use of superior seedlings. However, challenges remain in cultivation, post-harvest handling, marketing, and farmers’ technical capacity. Based on these findings, an extension program was developed that includes priority topics, implementation methods such as SLP, demonstration plots, and hands-on training, as well as a quarterly activity schedule. Overall, this program is expected to improve farmers’ productivity, product quality, and income, while also strengthening institutional capacity and the sustainability of agricultural practices in Langgosipi Village, Watubangga District, Kolaka Regency.
