Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of road construction on accessibility, mobility, and changes in socio-economic characteristics of the community in Lahomi District, West Nias. Road construction in this area, which involves improving 67.45 km of district road infrastructure, focuses on improving access to economic centers, education, and health services. The results of the study indicate that improving road infrastructure significantly increases community accessibility to markets, public facilities, and economic resources. In addition, changes in social mobility occur with the increasing ability of people to move between villages and to economic centers, as well as supporting greater economic diversification, with a shift from the agricultural sector to the trade, services, and small industry sectors. Although positive impacts have been achieved, Lahomi District still lags behind other areas in North Sumatra in terms of infrastructure quality and accessibility. This study suggests the need for more attention to infrastructure maintenance, inclusive development management, and sustainable development planning to ensure equitable benefits and avoid negative impacts that may arise from rapid socio-economic change.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Building Construction Approval (PBG) in supporting regional development in Medan City. PBG as a regulatory instrument for building construction in Medan City plays an important role in ensuring orderly, safe, and sustainable development. This study uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through interviews, documentation studies, and observations. The results of the study indicate that although PBG makes a significant contribution to the regulation and supervision of development, there are challenges in its implementation, such as limited resources, developer non-compliance, and the complexity of licensing procedures. The recommendations produced include simplifying the licensing process, increasing human resource capacity, stricter law enforcement, and the use of technology for more effective monitoring. With the increased effectiveness of PBG, it is expected to support the development of the Medan City area to be more orderly, safe, and sustainable.

Abstract

This study discusses the comparison of the Cost Budget Plan (RAB) for the construction of a type 36 house with two different concepts, namely the conventional concept and the Gold-rated GREENSHIP Home concept. The conventional concept refers to traditional construction methods with standard materials, while the Gold-rated GREENSHIP Home concept integrates environmentally friendly principles in design and construction, including energy efficiency, use of environmentally friendly materials, and good water management. This study aims to analyze the cost differences between the two concepts and to evaluate the long-term benefits related to energy efficiency and sustainability. The results of the study indicate that although the initial cost of construction with the GREENSHIP concept is higher, energy savings and reduction of environmental impacts in the long term provide significant economic benefits. This study provides important insights for developers and prospective homeowners to consider implementing the GREENSHIP concept in housing development planning.

Abstract

The Pulo Brayan Traditional Market in Medan City has several problems such as inadequate facilities, poor accessibility, and lack of comfort for traders and visitors. This design aims to relocate the traditional market with a modern architectural approach to improve the quality of the market’s infrastructure and services. The design method used is literature study and analysis of modern architectural design that integrates traditional elements with modern materials. The results of the study show that relocating the market with a modern design can create an efficient spatial layout, provide additional facilities such as adequate parking space, and enhance comfort through natural lighting, cross ventilation, and zoning of areas based on the type of goods. Additional facilities, such as a sky bridge and disability-friendly spaces, also provide easier access for all visitors. Furthermore, better waste management contributes to creating a healthy and clean market environment. Abstract

Masjid lama gang Bengkok is one of the historical heritage sites in Medan City, reflecting the integration of Malay and Chinese cultures within an Islamic context. Built around 1874 with the support of Tjong A Fie, a prominent Chinese figure during the Deli Sultanate era, the mosque features traditional Malay architectural styles with Chinese influences visible in its ornamentation and structural elements. Currently, the mosque’s physical condition is relatively well-preserved, but it faces environmental pressures from urban development and a lack of adequate historical interpretation systems. This study aims to identify the historical, architectural, and social values embodied in the mosque and to develop contextual preservation strategies. The research employs a qualitative approach through observation, literature review, and community interviews. The findings recommend community-based preservation, minor restoration, and the enhancement of historical narratives within public spaces.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of K-Popers slang, specifically among UNISKA students, on the standardization of the Indonesian language. Using a qualitative research approach, data was collected through in-depth interviews and content analysis of students’ online communication. The study found that K-Popers slang significantly impacts language use, particularly in informal settings, and poses challenges to the formal use of standard Indonesian. The use of slang terms such as “bias” and “stan” fosters group identity within the Carat fandom but reduces the students’ proficiency in formal language, which is critical in academic and professional contexts. This paper discusses the role of dakwah in addressing these challenges, suggesting that dakwah can guide students towards balancing informal and formal language use, promoting the preservation of standard Indonesian in line with religious and cultural values. The findings underscore the importance of incorporating dakwah in educational frameworks to maintain the integrity of language and ensure effective communication in both social and academic settings.

Abstract

Developing rural areas based on local potential is a crucial strategy for promoting equitable development and improving community welfare. The concept of tourism villages offers an alternative approach that integrates cultural values, natural resources, and active community participation in managing local tourism potential. This study aims to analyze the application of the tourism village concept in rural area development efforts. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this study combines SWOT analysis and the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method to formulate an effective tourism village management strategy. The results show that the success of tourism village implementation is strongly influenced by synergy between stakeholders, the involvement of local communities as key actors, and the preservation of regional natural and cultural potential. The concept of Community-Based Tourism (CBT) is the main foundation for building sustainable tourism that encourages socio-economic transformation while maintaining the integrity of the local environment and culture. The implementation of tourism villages has proven to have great potential as a driver of inclusive and sustainable rural development.

Abstract

Slums are one of the biggest challenges in sustainable urban development. In the midst of the government's efforts to run a program to handle slum organizations, the issue of miscarriage after physical intervention often goes unnoticed. This study aims to stop the slum management program in Tegal Sari Mandala II Village, with a Mixed Methods approach that combines linear multiple quantitative regression analysis and a qualitative descriptive approach. The results show that community participation has a significant effect on poverty programs, while infra-structure quality has not shown a statistically strong relationship. Qualitative findings support these results, where residents feel more attached to the programs they have followed in the past. Meanwhile, a number of infrastructures that are not in accordance with needs are considered less effective in supporting sustainability. This study concludes that the desire of the program is not only determined by technical aspects, but also by social, institutional, and cultural factors that are intertwined. Strategic recommendations include strengthening participation, improving design based on local needs, and integration with spatial policies.
