Abstract

Background: SMAN 2 Manna, South Bengkulu, has teachers with a high level of educational background and adequate school facilities; however, technology has not yet been optimally integrated into the teaching and learning process. Objectives: This community service activity was conducted to improve the understanding and skills of teachers at SMAN 2 South Bengkulu in using Google Sites for teaching. Methods: This community service activity was carried out at SMAN 2 South Bengkulu with 30 teachers as participants. The training program consisting of three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation.Result: The implementation of this community service program significantly improved the knowledge and skills of teachers at SMAN 2 Manna, South Bengkulu. Based on the evaluation results obtained through the questionnaire, the score increased from 20.67 in the pretest to 92 in the posttest, with an N-gain value of 0.90, which is classified in the high category. Conclusion: The training program was highly effective in enhancing teachers’ competence in utilizing digital technology in learning. Therefore, it is expected that teachers will be able to implement website-based learning using Google Sites in their teaching practices, thereby supporting the realization of digital transformation in the school.

Abstract

Background: In Tik Kuto Village, organic household and agricultural waste remains largely underutilized, contributing to environmental pollution and potentially reducing community health status and productivity. The lack of practical, low-cost, and easily applied waste management technologies at the household and farm levels highlights the need for community-based interventions that support sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.Aims: The specific objective is to enhance community capacity to process organic waste into Local Microorganisms (MOL), Liquid Organic Fertilizer (POC), and ecoenzymes within a Zero-Waste Management framework. Methods: The program was implemented through participatory outreach and counseling, demonstrations, technical training, and mentoring activities involving farmer groups and housewives. Educational support materials included posters and booklets. The resulting MOL served as an activator for POC, which was fermented for four weeks. Ecoenzymes were produced from fruit peels, brown sugar, and water in a 3:1:10 ratio and fermented for a minimum of three months. Program effectiveness was evaluated using pre-tests, post-tests, and direct observation of participant engagement. Results: A total of 18 farmers participated in the program. Although most participants were middle-aged and experienced farmers, their baseline knowledge of organic waste processing was low. Post-training evaluation showed substantial improvements, with understanding of waste sorting and processing reaching 94–100%. Knowledge related to materials, production steps, application dosage, and benefits of MOL, POC, and ecoenzymes increased from 6–28% to 83–94%.Conclusion: The program successfully improved participants’ knowledge and behavioral intentions regarding organic waste management at the household and community levels.

Abstract

The Industrial Revolution 4.0 era demands higher education to produce graduates who not only master knowledge but also have critical thinking skills. However, observations of Biology Education students show that the ability to think critically is still low, especially in associating the concept of plant physiology with social and environmental issues. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Argument-Driven Inquiry model integrated with Socio-Scientific Issues (ADI-SSI) in improving students' critical thinking skills in the Plant Physiology course. This study is a quasi-experiment with a non-equivalent pre-test and post-test experimental group design. The research sample is a fourth-semester student of the Biology Education Study Program, University of Bengkulu who was selected based on purposive sampling techniques. Students' critical thinking skills are measured using an instrument test in the form of a description prepared based on FRISCO indicators (focus, reason, inference, situation, clarity, overview). Data were analyzed using ANCOVA's Quade's Rank test, and the magnitude of influence was analyzed using effect size for the F (Eta Squared) test. The results showed a significant difference in students' critical thinking skills between the control class and the experimental class [F(1.68)=76.332; p<0.001] with a large effect size (η²=0.53). The highest increase occurred in the focus, situation, clarity, and overview indicators. These findings show that the integration of scientific inquiry with socioscientific issues is able to stimulate students to think logically, evaluate evidence objectively, and consider social and ethical dimensions in scientific argumentation. The ADI-SSI model has proven to be effective in fostering critical thinking skills while strengthening the relevance of biology learning to global challenges.
